Cold Snap

The weather across the Northeast is going to be turning extremely bitter in the next few weeks.  Canada is going to be sending a large cold front South and placing the residents of the Northeast into a freeze.  Generally weather in the Northeast is cold in the month of January. However, it is not always this cold.

Frigid is a great way to explain the weather condition that these poor residents will be facing shortly.  People need to keep an eye on their pipes and walkways.  Frozen pipes can be a big headache but slipping on the front porch can pose more than just a headache.  The best place pets and people during these frigid weeks is indoors by the fireplace.

New leadership

My state recently obtained a new governor, much like many other states.  This new governor has not even been in his position one month and we experienced a major blizzard.  This caused for a lot of complaints after the storm had passed.

During the storm, multiple businesses and agencies shut down early in an attempt to allow their employees a safe travel home.  While many of these retail stores and other places of business closed early, the state did not.

The governor received a great deal of flack for this.  The previous administration would have ordered a release.  The running joke now is that our state is able to tell we are under new administration – because the state employees are forced to remain at work during a storm.

Blizzard

Looking at the news there is an enormous snowstorm hitting the Northeast!  I guess this might impact my thoughts of traveling to a sunnier location.  I am thinking that I better check the airport cancellation schedules.  I am really not in any hurry to leave but I do hate having to change my plans.

Being flexible is key in order to get through life without going loco. However, with that said I am not the most flexible person in the world.  I am a creature of habit and like routine.  Mother Nature apparently has other plans for me and therefore I must roll with them.  Better yet, just deal with them!

Dogs Days Continue

The heat index is what I care about lately. How hot does it feel? How much more heat can we stand?

The temperature, humidity and lack of a cool breeze have made it feel like over 100 degrees for almost 3 months straight now. We still have all of August and most of September as our summer. Ugh!

We sure could use a couple of weeks of cooler temperatures.

So cold

This winter I have been so cold and miserable it is a wonder that someone has not kicked my butt. I can not wait for spring to get here, it will not be a moment to soon. I know that we will have at least one more cold snap this winter, but I am ready for spring. I can not wait for the birds to return to our yard and for the grass to green up, I will not mind when it comes time to mow the yard again, and that is one job that I really hate. I miss the warm days and the nice cool nights of spring. Go away Old Man Winter and let spring get here as soon as possible.

6 more weeks of winter

Today Phil the ground hog in Pennsylvania saw his shadow and he predicts 6 more weeks of winter. I do not know if he is going to be right, but I know one thing for sure. I am more than ready for spring to get here, the sooner the better as far as I am concerned. This winter has been long, cold and very wet and I am ready to find some sand and sunshine and I want to find it very soon. A trip to the beach is in my very near future plans and I can not wait to see sand and sunshine.

Fun in the Snow

We had enough snow for our grandson to actually sled down the hill in the backyard. We had to get creative about what we had on hand that could be pressed into service as a sled. We don’t have enough snow most years to bother with buying a proper sled. It would just be taking up a lot of room in the garage. But there are other things that can be pressed into use when we do have some snow. Last time my daughter used a plastic laundry basket while at a friend’s house. But would you believe we don’t have laundry baskets like that? We use a hamper.

After looking around the garage and the laundry room, we decided to look for an old box or large sheet of cardboard. Ended up that a boxtop worked pretty well. He got tired of it after about 20 minutes and complained about being cold, so that was the end of our short snow day with fun in the snow.

Wet summer

As summer comes to a close we here in Nashville have had the wettest summer I remember in the eleven years I have been here. It is going to rain again today and I see no end to the daily rains. I for one am very tired of being wet everyday at work and I am ready for the rain to end, for a while anyway. I hate when it is dry but you get very tired of the rain too. Let us hope we have a nice mild winter and can get more rain in the spring when we need it the very most.

When

When is summer going to get here? We have had a very cool and very wet July, after a wet spring we are way over the amount of rain we get at this point in the season. I believe that I heard almost 4 inches above the normal rainfall for the year so far. I know that we will pay for this bounty this fall and I am not looking forward to that at all. I fear we will have a very wet and cold fall and winter and that is not to my liking at all. I hope that it is a warm and wet fall and winter. That would be more to my taste.

Thunder

When we get a summer thunderstorm my little dog Diva has a very hard time with the thunder part of the storm. She runs and hides downstairs or under the bed which ever one is easiest for her to get to. I know a lot of people who feel the same way about thunder and lightning, is it the most feared thing in nature next to spiders? Well we had a very bad storm last night and Diva has not reappeared after the thunder was over I may have to go look for her very soon. I know she will be glad that the storm is over.
