Country Music Festival

There is a country music festival every year in Nashville. It happened last week and lasted four days. Since my mom had the kids for a couple of weeks to give us a break and some alone time, the hubby and I decided to go spend the day at the festival. It was amazing ! We really didn’t spend a lot of money as we decided to take advantage of the free concerts that were readily available at several different stages. We saw at least three big name performers as well as a few lesser known ones that we will be keeping an eye out for in the future as there were really good.

Jerrod Neimann was the one we really wanted to see and were so happy to be able to. Dirks Bentley showed up for a surprise performance with another group and that was awesome. Then after they were gone, we went to wander around and ran across the cast from Duck Dynasty as they were going into a restaurant. That was totally cool, but I wasn’t able to get the camera out quickly enough to take pictures of them. Boo !

We found another stage in front of the Bridgestone arena and got there just in time to see Big Smo go on and perform. Hubb’s loved that as he is a really big fan of his. He had to call one of his brothers and tell him who he was watching on stage. It was too funny. All in all we had a great time and were so happy to have the day together to enjoy just the two of us. I did feel kind of bad though, because I know that the kids would have loved it too. Ah well, I think I will take them next year. We shall see!

Work

Well work seems to be drying up everywhere. Everyone I know are either laid off or about to be laid off. This is just rediculous. My online work has dried up almost completely. I only get a few jobs per week now and it is very difficult to make ends meet. If this continues, I will have to break into the kids college funds to pay the bills and that is something I definitely do not want to do. My rainy day, Christmas and emergency funds are almost depleted and we are only in the third month of the year. I am pretty good at managing money, but I am finding it difficult to do so, when there is so little money coming in. I shudder to think about what the rest of the year will be like if we don’t get some kind of reprieve soon. *sigh*

So messed up

Apparently there was a problem with the processing on my payment for my cable/internet bill. I am smart enough though to write down the conformation number when I make a payment online. I woke up this morning to no cable or internet and was not happy about it, but once I called with the number, they were able to fix it. They said they were having problems with their payment system and for some reason it is not picking up all of the payments. They apologized and gave me a free On Demand movie rental for my trouble. The kids are going to love that, because I always rent the movies they want first. Yaay for us!

Going out to dinner

We are going out to dinner to one of my favorite restaurants. It’s an Old English pup style place with the best food ever. I have been craving a prime rib just for some time now and there are not very many places that make that dish any longer.

They also serve and old fashioned English Shepherds pie. Now that is really hard to find. Of course there are also the obligatory fish and chips, etc… but it is well worth the drive to get there. The prices are really good as well.

The mall

I went to the mall today to do a little shopping and found out some really good deals. Most of the time I stay away from the mall as it used to be so expensive, but not anymore. It seems like the higher end stores are trying to compete with the major chains like Walmart and the sales are better then Walmart, Target or even Kmart. I was pleasantly surprised. I was able to buy a bunch of stuff I didn’t even intend to get, because I saved so much on what I went there for.

I do believe that I will have to make trips to the mall more often now that I know it is worth it. I know that the kids will love that. I have a feeling that we will be going there a lot now. lol

Yuck

Well that was not good to wake up to. The dog decided to get into the cats litter box and eat what the cat had left behind. Eww, factor of one million, but it also made her really sick and we had to clean the mess up first thing this morning. I didn’t even get to have a cup of coffee first. That is not the best way to start a Saturday morning. I had to scrub the carpet to keep the dyes in her dog food from staining the carpet. It has not been a pleasant morning so far.

I finally got my coffee and now have a ton of work to do today. The kids want to go to the movies later, but I am not sure. There are several movies that look good, but it is expensive and money is a little tight right now. I am still playing catch up after the holidays. I will have to check my finances before I give them the green light on that. Anyway, I am going to knock this work out, so I can enjoy the rest of my day. Later Gators!

Wow

This ice storm was really kind of scary. Fortunately for us it wasn’t as bad as they predicted. I was worried about losing power due to ice, but didn’t. I am prepared for storms like this though. I have a generator and fireplace to keep the house warm. I keep wood for the fireplace stocked up at all times. I don’t think we will have to worry too much about it anymore though. We are getting closer to spring with every day and have had a relatively mild winter so far.

It hasn’t been very fun for the kids though. They were hoping for some snow, so we could go sledding and build snowmen. That did not happen. We only get that kind of snow once every three or four years. Oh well, maybe next year they will get their wish.

Personal word of mouth marketing

There is a new trend for personal word of mouth marketing. If you have a business or brand to sell, then using social networks, blogging channels and such can get your product or service much more business. Facebook is a perfect example of word of mouth marketing. Every time you click the like button on something, your friends see it. If they have never heard of it before they get curious as to why you are “liking” it and viola’. You have another potential customer. I have been using this form of marketing for a long time now and highly recommend it.

Dental practice valuation

My best friend has to check out the dental practice valuation of two practices that are being sold. The dentists are retiring and ready to sell. It is her job to find out what the over all value is for each business before a price can be set for them. She has a lot of stuff to take into consideration with each business, so they can get a fair market value. The amount of patients the doctor has, their management, fees, reputation, and location are all important. There are other thing as well, but you get the general idea. I think her job is pretty interesting. I wouldn’t mind doing something like that myself. Who knows, maybe I will change careers.

Unsecured business lines of credit

If you are looking to get unsecured business lines of credit, you should research well before committing to anything. There are a lot of pitfalls a business owner can fall into if they do not gather information first and weight their options. It is always a good idea to talk to either an attorney or someone from the SBA. There are lots of people who are more then willing to help small business owners out. I have gone through this process with my brother before and it was confusing at first. After a bit of research, we were able to figure it out and wade our way through it well enough.
