Birthday celebration for my oldest

Well he turns fourteen this year and I am trying to plan an awesome party for him. He want’s to invite a bunch of friends and I have to figure out something that is age appropriate for them to do. If I make it too cutesy he will no be happy, but I have to stay within my budget as well.

I am thinking about a paintball party. There is a paintball field near here and they rent out the guns and gear right there at the field. I called them to ask about party prices and they are relatively good price wise.

However, the parents all have to sign a waiver to allow them to play and I don’t think all of the parents will be attending. I wonder if I can get the permission slips before hand and have them fill them out. Not sure if that will work, but it is worth a try.

Wine with dinner

I am having a dinner party at my house for a few friends and my boyfriend. My mother is taking the kids for the weekend, so I can have some adult time. I am making a Chicken Bruschetta with angel hair pasta, a spinach salad and garlic rolls. I want to have a nice Chardonnay with it because white wine goes best with chicken. I have made this dish plenty of times and even the kids love it.

It has been a long time since I have been able to have a dinner party like this. I will have to buy several bottles of wine, and I might even have a little champagne to toast with. I haven’t made up my mind on that one. I plan to get one of those word games for us to play as well after dinner. I used to have one, but the kids lost a lot of the question and answer cards to it. They have a lot of new ones out now anyway. I think one of the Pictionary games would be best. They have a few different kind of them for me to chose from. I also will break out the Jenga game as well. I really love to play that one. Once the wine starts flowing, it gets really fun.

Wedding favors

Oh, I got the cutest little Wedding favors at a friends wedding. They were miniature gum ball machines. Of course you don’t have to put only gum balls in them. You can put mints or chocolates in them. The wedding was a fifties style wedding with decorations to match and the gumball machines were the party favors. The kids loved it when I brought one home. It now rests on a table in the living room, filled with peanuts. My littlest guy is always going and getting a peanut. I doubt he will ever grow tired of it.
