Emery Boards

As a child I was given a manicure set as a Christmas gift. I didn’t know how to use any of the tools in that set except for the nail clippers and the nail file. I used a nail file for many years. Then I discovered emery boards. What a great discovery! I love the emery boards and keep one in my purse at all times.

Interesting how they are being used for advertising, what a concept!

Pets Dying

Unfortunately part of being a loving pet owner, is losing them to death. It is like a part of your family, and a piece of your heart goes with them. One of the cats my Mother, “rescued”, meaning she snatched it off the street because she didn’t think it was safe with the family that had it, died this week.

He was run over by a car, and she has been very distraught. We all have, but none of us, but her had the courage to go scrape him off the road until today. Thankfully Little Uno is now buried, close to our house in the woods. We will miss you Uno, you will be missed.

The Judge Is In The House

Today I was switching through television channels looking to just kill some time and landed on Judge Judy. I normally am not a fan of the Judge Judy show but today I was feeling like watching some drama.  Usually watching a drama type show can make me feel like my life is going pretty good.

One of the cases that was presented today in front of Judge Judy was the case of two best friend’s who drank too much and one of the friends threw a glass at the other busting a couple of his teeth including his two front teeth.  Judge Judy handled the case very well.  She said a few funny things to the two young gentlemen.  The plaintiff was asking for $5,000 for the repairs he is going to need on his teeth.

The defendant claims that they were all drunk and his friend was dancing on a picnic table when he threw the glass.  The defendant claims he was not aiming for his friend and thought that his friend was actually going to catch the glass but he didn’t.  The defendant had to pay a $500 fine and thought that that fine was enough.

Of course Judge Judy disagreed and state to the defendant that balls are meant for throwing, not glasses.  This was not before telling the plaintiff he has a drinking problem and his physical appearance shows it.  She stated that he ought to just image what he will look like at age 50 if at age 25 he looks like he has a drinking problem.  That was a valid point Judge Judge.

Swim Suit Blues

It seems that every year I do battle and a losing battle at that, against weight gain. I know that since I turned 30 it has been an uphill struggle and now that the swim suit season is here it has just become a all out war.

I have dedicated myself to losing weight and fitting into the same swim suit that I wore last year, lets hope that this is a battle that I win this year. The swim suit I wore last year is stunning and I want to be able to fit in it again, soon.

Keeping Track

Recently, my grandmother obtained a new pulse oximeter.  She had always wanted one and had been looking for a good price.  Years ago pulse oximeters were quite expensive.  These were the days when it was nearly unheard of to have any time of health care personnel’s equipment at your home for personal use.

Today, the trend is growing for preventative maintenance of a person’s health.  Doctor’s are encouraging their patients to keep track of certain levels in order to remain healthy or to track changes when they are not seeing their doctor.  Patients are also much more educated in the field of medicine thanks to the Internet.

I am fairly confident that doctors are not impressed with what the Internet is telling their patients about health conditions.  The Internet has a lot out there and it is not all good.  The Internet with regard to personal diagnosis of health problems can just mean building a wedge between you and your doctor.  It is important to remember to always follow your doctor’s advice and never try to self diagnose.  This can be extremely dangerous.  Just leave that to the professionals.

Yet Another Doctor Appointment Today

My littlest guy is sick AGAIN! I am taking him to the doctors in a couple of hours. I hope that whatever it is that keeps coming back on him can be found and fixed. He is just miserable. I hate it that he keeps getting sick. One week he is throwing up and the next it is a cold.

He never got sick like this until he started Kindergarten. Now it is all the time. I am not happy about it and seriously considering calling the school board about it. The people who clean the classrooms are not doing their jobs well enough, and they really need to have the kids either wash their hands after recess or give them hand sanitizer to use, considering they go to the lunchroom right after recess.

All of the germs that are on the playground equipment that is shared with all the kids in the school are being taken with them to eat lunch, which is mainly finger foods. I will be making a few phone calls about this after I talk to the doctor.

Bar Rescue on Spike TV

One of my favorite TV shows that are on these days is called Bar Rescue. It stars Jon Taffer, who has been in the bar rescuing business for many years and can brag that he has saved over 800 bars during this time.

Mr Taffer gets a bit upset with many of the bar owners, blasts them from one end of the room to the other, which breaks them down to get them to realize the errors of their ways. Then he spends the remainder of his time training, grooming and rebuilding their bar along with their confidence.

A good amount of these bars have dance floors but they don’t seem to attract many dancers. Poor sound systems that need an update along with a new sound reflector or two and some new decor can make or break a good dance club. I would love to visit at least one of his bars that he has redone, especially one of the ones that have dancing!

I hope that Bar Rescue manages to stay around for a good long while. It always seems that the good ones don’t stick around very long.

Love and Marriage

Last night the news had an interesting segment about love and marriage in terms of the percentage of baby boomers who are now happily divorced.  The statistics did surprise me slightly.

The news report stated that 39% of people believe in not getting married.  The average age of men getting married currently is 28, while females average is 26.  Nearly 51% of marriages will end in divorce.  That is why most couples currently are waiting at least four years before walking down the aisle.

I was surprised most by the percentage of people not believing in marriage.  This must have multiple reasons behind it.  Like I mentioned earlier baby boomers, the oldest this year turning 65, most have already been married have decided that now all they want in a relationship is more of a friendship with no strings attached.  they are discovering that they are much happier not getting remarried.  In a way this is a shame.  Marriage traditionally was meant to be a good thing but unfortunately, with the state of the economy among other factors, marriage has transformed into another hassle/ complication that people are realizing they do not need in their lives.

Medicare for Mom

As I have mentioned briefly, I care for my 74 year old mother. She came to live with me almost three years ago after taking a bad fall. I love her to death but honestly with her doctor appointments, and prescription refills all the time, it can feel like a part time job. She sees her regular doctor every two months, her cardiologist every three months, and then there are the quarterly appointments to have her pacemaker checked. Luckily, I have a job that allows me to leave and take her to her appointments without any trouble.

We are fortunate that she has good health insurance, including medicare part d. Most of her prescriptions are very inexpensive and very affordable. One, new prescription is $80 per month which is steep! We are fortunate that she is actually on very few prescriptions considering her heart problems.

She is worth it though and has always been there for me, throughout my entire life. I am happy that I am able to have her live with me and care for her. I will never be able to repay her for everything she has done for me in my life, but this feels like a small step towards that.

Night Creams

Ever since I was a small girl I have used many different night creams to help keep my skin moist, some worked very well some not at all. I got to searching on the internet for some night cream reviews, what I found amazed even cynical old me.

The one night cream that I have used for years was not given a very high score on the web site that I found with the very best night cream reviews. Night Creams has a great web site with a lot of information on which night cream is rated high and which ones are rated low. I plan to make my night cream choices from here on out on which ones have been rated higher than the rest.

I love the way that a good night cream makes my skin feel and I have always been very selective on which night cream I use and I see no reason to change that now that I am on the down hill side of 40, I need a better night cream now that I ever needed when I was 20. All the help I can get to choose a better night cream will be appreciated very highly.
