The Old Bowling Alley

One of the Facebook pages that I like to check every day is about the town where I grew up. There are a couple hundred people who are members of that group and are very active posting photos from back in the day and reminiscing about the good old days.

One of the photos was of a bowling alley that was within walking distance of my house. My parents never seemed to mind that I spent time at the bowling alley. I would walk down there at least once a week and spend time until I knew I had to be home for dinner. It was perfectly safe to walk alone that far in my old neighborhood.

Someone posted that photo but also mentioned that the bowling alley is gone now. They tore it down and built a high-rise on that little piece of land. How sad that the kids who live there now do not get to go to the bowling alley and hang out like we used to do.

Dating Happens For Free

Can’t believe Wendy met so many great guys on our ski trip and I came up empty. Although that lawyer from LA was really nice, he was very very married and I’m not going there!

While I’ve got clothes in the dryer, I thought I would surf the net for the online dating sites. Then I ran across a site that reviews all the popular ones and gives you the basic info so you can zero in on the right site to meet your own needs or interest. Each one has a different approach to the methods and the processes to find the right special someone.

I thought about reading through some profiles or ads on a personal ad services site tonight – just to see if anyone looked worth contacting and maybe getting to know a little better. Not all of these dating sites let you do that.

I ended up choosing. I like that it is free, with no charges to send and/or to receive any messages sent. Being able to post Up to 30 photos on your profile page is a great plus as well. We’ll see how that works out! And I’ll keep you posted from time to time.

Bless My Online Friends

This morning I was just reflecting on how much my life has changed over the past 10 years or so. I have embraced computers and the Internet, part of it because of my job and part because I consider it entertainment.

I joined Facebook a couple of years ago and have made many new friends. I look forward to logging in and catching up with my friends. We have a lot of fun together and life wouldn’t be the same without them.

I Love Me

Once in a great while I will see something on Face Book that really strikes me enough to take the time to comment on as well as saving the image onto my hard drive in order to post it here on my personal blog.

A good friend of mine from our high school days posted this today and it really hit home. I just couldn’t resist posting it here today. It deserves it, she deserves it and last but not least I deserve it!

Another Blast from the Past

Found another photo that I found on Facebook from back in the day that gave me a blast from the past with lots of memories. This was the Putt Putt golf course, just a few block from the bowling alley where I used to hang out. The Putt Putt was very popular for children’s birthday parties and a nice place for dates on hot summer evenings.

The Putt Putt is also gone now. They built a huge office building in its place. I would hardly recognize the old neighborhood with so many landmarks torn down. I wonder how far the local kids have to go to find a miniature golf course where they can play with their families? Hopefully there is a place within an hour or so drive. To be honest, all I can think of might be the beaches, and those are a half day’s drive.

I’m glad that someone had the foresight to take photos of the everyday buildings and landmarks from those days. I carry my camera with me all the time and never really think to take photos of the grocery store or the fast food places, the schools or the churches. But I know that someone else is doing just that, and one day those photos will be someone else’s blast from the past.

Internet

As a middle aged woman I am constantly amazed by the power of the internet. I have recently found family I had not been in contact with in years. I can do my holiday shopping from the comfort of my living room sofa. We can play computer games until our hearts are content and of course there is social networking such as Facebook. I’ve just learned there is also online sports betting.

Some of my friends are really into soccer so I will suggest they check the website out.

I have to admit I am quite addicted to Facebook. I’ve reconnected with Junior High and High School friends and I stay in touch with close friends and current and past co-workers. I do not play the games and I admit I am annoyed when friends send requests over and over for the games. I do however like to post music videos and I am quite a fan of Youtube and sharing those videos on Facebook. I am confident that my friends are just as annoyed by my videos as I am by their games. I try to remain tolerant though, and I never let anyone know that I am annoyed by the games. They are kind as well and hardly ever tell me to lay off the music.
