Its Peter Cottontail Time

Easter has finally arrived! A sure sign of spring! I am very excited for this Easter because I will be visiting both sides of my family and having two dinners! I love Easter dinner. But it’s not just about the food, family and friends sharing the meal are what count most.

I have been busily preparing the dishes I will be bringing to each dinner. Easter morning is going to be super busy. I promised my best friend I would attend her church’s sunrise service and afterwards I have to get on the road. With all the activities planned on Easter I had no choice but to start preparing ahead of time. Desserts, vegetables and appetizers are all part of the menu items I am to bring with me.

The best part of Easter that I am going to enjoy is watching the little ones search for Easter eggs during the Easter egg hunt. They always have so much fun looking for those eggs. The looks on their faces are also a joy when they go to open the eggs to see what treasures are inside. I am not sure who started this tradition but I do not truly believe they knew the impact that would be on the children’s parents. Sugar, is the primary impact I am referring to towards the parents. Luckily for all of us the weather is suppose to be decent and so the solution to the sugar high the little ones will be experiencing is so keep them running around outdoors!

Post Holiday Blahs

Sorry, I haven’t been posting much since the Holidays. They went by so quickly but took so much time to prepare for. It doesn’t seem right that Christmas should be one day, or one morning actually. Seems we should have more time to relax, enjoy, and spend time with our families. It feels that the true meaning of Christmas has been lost in the hustle and bustle, of the finding the perfect gift, and preparing the perfect meal.

Christmas has changed so much in my lifetime. As a little girl, we’d go downtown and look at all the big department store windows. They would have mechanical displays that were simply adorable. Wish my kids could see what I saw.

Anyway, I am back and will be blogging more. Happy New Year Everyone!

Luna Guitars A Plenty

To be perfectly honest, I had absolutely no idea what any of the Luna Guitars were, much less – where to find a good one at a decent price. I am glad I discovered the WWBW’s website, which gave me many options and ideas to toss around before making a final decision. I mean really it’s already December for heaven’s sake. Christmas seems so far in the distant that I just can’t seem to get into the mood of thinking of anything that goes along with the holiday season, but I am a procrastinator.

I think if my two sisters pitch in as well we can purchase an affordable Luna Guitar much like the one below for Jason for his birthday, which unfortunately falls on Christmas Eve. Poor kid gets robbed of his birthday every year no matter how hard anyone tries. He is a good kid and we want to make sure he gets a good gift this year. Being 13 is hard enough.

Pumpkins

While at work today I saw the very first sign for the many pumpkin farms in this area, and I can not wait to take David to let him pick out his pumpkin for our porch jack-o-lantern. It has become a family trip and party to pick the correct pumpkin and to get it carved and set up on the porch, just right.

I like to pick one smaller pumpkin to make us some pies and we will get this done on this trip too. I love this time of year, the weather has cooled off and we have so much to do this time of year.

Changing Uniform Styles

There are multiple varieties of uniforms in the United States.  One of my favorite types of uniforms are nursing uniforms.  Every time I visit a doctors office or hospital I see the medical staff wearing these and they seem to be quite comfortable in their attire.

The history of medical scrubs and uniforms has changed greatly throughout time.  Forty years ago when my grandmother was a nurse they never would have dreamed of dressing in scrubs.  They wore extremely white uniforms with a cap on their heads.  Today it is an entirely different story.

The part of scrub uniforms that is always the most interesting to look at is the
nursing scrub tops.  There is a large variety of designs to choose from.  From flowers to cartoon characters, almost anything a person is looking for exists in a scrub top pattern. Perhaps the most interesting patterns seen are at pediatrician’s offices.  The pediatric nurses can often be seen wearing children’s designs on there scrub tops.  I think that this is a nice addition to the pediatrician’s office.  These designs can help put the children at ease during their visit.

Social Studies

I don’t talk about politics on my blog, however this is not really politics, but my sons Social Studies class and what they are learning. Right now my son is learning about the United States government, the Constitution and how we govern ourselves.

I really enjoy this particular class the kids take. It gives me a common ground to actually help teach my children about their responsibility within our society. I get to explain to them the importance of voting, as well as the ethics and morality of certain laws. Teaching them why somethings are very important to hold onto and why others should be changed.

I have a little ritual that I do every Fourth of July. As it is our Independence day, I read the constitution and keep myself familiar with it. It is an important thing to do for any American, but for me it is a reaffirmation of my freedom. As the kids get older I teach them why this is important to them and one day to the children they may have. I hope that they follow in my footsteps and make this a ritual of their own and pass it along to their own children one day.

Communicate Gap

It would have been a lot easier for me to understand what exactly it is that my niece Alice is wanting for her birthday if the email had said “a mouth piece for her saxophone”, instead of “a Vandoren Optimum Series Saxophone Ligature” which are the exact words that my sister wrote. I had asked her what her daughter Alice would want and appreciate for her 13th birthday that is coming up in the middle of July. Thirteen is a very hard age to buy for girls or boys.

There is such a big difference between the way that my sister and I communicate with the world. I am a whole lot more kicked back and straight forward, while she has a much larger vocabulary and has a blog that she has been working on since forever. Just by looking at her blog and then mine you wouldn’t even believe that we are related, much less know each other.

Anyway, back to the vandoren optimum sax. I found one online at the website. Now is a great time to get deals. Memorial Day is a heck of a holiday for consumers so I might as well jump on the bandwagon and save some hard earned $$$ as well.

I Love This Band

Alabama is an older country band that I grew up with. This song reminds me of the days of summer long ago, when I had very little responsibility other then going to school. I think about summer fun and lots of BBQ’s and bonfires. I like to play these for my kids to hear and love as well as the music from today.

Yet Another Doctor Appointment Today

My littlest guy is sick AGAIN! I am taking him to the doctors in a couple of hours. I hope that whatever it is that keeps coming back on him can be found and fixed. He is just miserable. I hate it that he keeps getting sick. One week he is throwing up and the next it is a cold.

He never got sick like this until he started Kindergarten. Now it is all the time. I am not happy about it and seriously considering calling the school board about it. The people who clean the classrooms are not doing their jobs well enough, and they really need to have the kids either wash their hands after recess or give them hand sanitizer to use, considering they go to the lunchroom right after recess.

All of the germs that are on the playground equipment that is shared with all the kids in the school are being taken with them to eat lunch, which is mainly finger foods. I will be making a few phone calls about this after I talk to the doctor.

Slow Moving Today

I must not have slept very well last night, because I am moving really slow this morning. It is almost noon and I haven’t gotten anything done yet. I woke up late, the kids are still sleeping and all I have accomplished is a shower and to make the coffee. Wow, that is so unlike me. I am usually up and at em first thing in the morning. I know that change to Daylight Savings Time is part of the reason my body takes a while to get used to the mandatory time change that most of us deal with twice a year.

I noticed that the other day when I stopped into Walmart to grab a few things for our trip to the creek that there are a ton of summer clothes on the racks. Reminded me that summer is just around the corner and the kids really need some new summer clothes. They say that this will be a killer summer, with a lot of high temperature days and a lot of humidity, sigh…

Anyway…I have a few things that have to be done today, but other then that, I will be taking it easy other than spending some time online looking for some deals on the much needed summer wardrobes. I hate shopping at the local box stores and try not to shop there except when I have no other options. There are so many promotions to be found online, no need to go out and spend my time fighting the crowds and the attitudes that go along with all of that. Besides just about everyone shops there and I like having my kids wearing clothes that can’t be found here in town.

One of my favorite websites  they have the cutest fashions for both girls and boys that are extremely affordable, especially when you can take advantage of the promotions, discounts, vouchers and/or coupons that they make available to their online customers. I always look for free shipping. These fees can add up quickly if not taken into consideration while adding items into your virtual shopping cart that they provide, as most websites do these days. There is nothing worse than taking your time to select items, add them to your cart and then find out that the shipping and handling costs have added up to more than your budget can handle.
