Another Blast from the Past

Found another photo that I found on Facebook from back in the day that gave me a blast from the past with lots of memories. This was the Putt Putt golf course, just a few block from the bowling alley where I used to hang out. The Putt Putt was very popular for children’s birthday parties and a nice place for dates on hot summer evenings.

The Putt Putt is also gone now. They built a huge office building in its place. I would hardly recognize the old neighborhood with so many landmarks torn down. I wonder how far the local kids have to go to find a miniature golf course where they can play with their families? Hopefully there is a place within an hour or so drive. To be honest, all I can think of might be the beaches, and those are a half day’s drive.

I’m glad that someone had the foresight to take photos of the everyday buildings and landmarks from those days. I carry my camera with me all the time and never really think to take photos of the grocery store or the fast food places, the schools or the churches. But I know that someone else is doing just that, and one day those photos will be someone else’s blast from the past.

Fun Family Time

Guest post written by Vince Walton

College football season is coming to an end, and I must say that I am a little disappointed about that fact. My son and I have really enjoyed watching a good amount of the games together. We both went to the University of North Carolina together and we’ve kept up with every UNC game this season. We’ve had a chance to go to a few of the games together, and we’ve gotten together at the house to watch all of the broadcasted games. It’s nice having that bond with my son. We are both very proud of our alma mater and it’s safe to say that we are both lifelong Tar Heel fans.

While watching the last couple games together, I’ve noticed that I need a new pair of hearing aids. I’ve been looking at new Hearing Aid technology online, and I believe it’s finally time for an upgrade. I need to be making sure I catch all the calls when watching the games on TV. I’m glad my son and I have these games to share together. It’s great to have been a part of the same university!

The Olympics

While I have not watched every minute of the Olympics this year I have wound up watching some of the winter games. I think that curling may be the most interesting sport on the TV at the winter games. I like the fact that almost everyone can do this sport and have fun, it reminds me of shuffleboard and pool with the angles used. I think it would be a lot of fun to try curling. I am not sure if a curling lane could be found in Tennessee but I plan on looking.

Playoffs

Now that both of my teams are out of the playoffs, the Titans never even made it to the playoffs and the Cardnials lost this wekend I am now onboard the Brett farve bandwagon and I hope to see a Vikings and Jets Super Bowl this year. My good friend Dale is sending me a Vikings hat to wear and I will be large and loud in my support of the Minnesota Vikings.

The big one

I am not a huge fan of NASCAR racing but I do watch a couple of the races. The first race of the year at Daytona and the spring race at Bristol is great too. Let me add one more to my list, the race yesterday at Talladega was fantastic, they always have at least one “Big One” and yesterday they had a couple of big ones, the crash on the final turn may of been the most fantastic wreck I have ever seen I know I have not been watching racing all that long but it was amazing, I hope the folks that were injured in the crowd are all right. I heard that 2 of them had to be air lifted to the hospital. It was amazing.

Busy day

In the morning the streets of Nashville will be filled with runners in the Country Music Marathon. I am not enough of an athlete to try and run a marathon, I do try to run in some of the 5K runs they have here, a lot of them are for a great cause. I ran in the Womens Heath run here last year and had a great time. The Nashville Predators had a great 5K this year and I plan to run in that one again next year. Tomorrow I just plan to stay out of downtown and out of the way of the 35,000 runners in the marathon.

Preds in a tail spin

This season for the Nashville Predators has been a roller coaster ride that I fear will end in a tail spin. I see a rough road for the team to climb to make the playoffs, we just simply do not have enough offense to make it to the second season. Our defense is still very young and plays hard most of the time, it is on the offensive side where we are having the most trouble this season. The return of Steve Sullivan has helped but not enough we need to make a big trade to get the fire power we need and it needs to be done very soon.

Hockey

After having season tickets to the Nashville Predators for the last three years I am at a loss what to do a couple of times a week. It was strictly a financial thing that kept us from buying season tickets again, we have been to one game and it is not the same you get to be friends with the people around you and I miss some of them a lot. I hope things are much better next year and we are able to get our season tickets again, I really miss the games a lot.

Hockey season

The 2008 hockey season gets under way tomorrow night and I am very ready, it has been a long time since the Red Wings won Lord Stanley’s cup and I am more than ready to get the puck dropped and get this team into the playoffs. It will be a long season but I think that the Nashville Predators will be in the fight again this year and I can not wait for this great game to play out and see what happens this year.

Football time in Tennessee

Tennessee has always been a hot bed of college football with their beloved U.T. Volunteers. I am not a huge fan of the Tennessee Vols. In fact, I do not like them at all and I especially don’t like their coach. He does not deserve even half the money he makes yet they continue to give him big raises and worship the ground he walks on. They need to wake up and face the fact that he’s lost his magic and the team’s losing record these past two years proves that.

I went to a Big 12 school and will always think that the Big 12 is a better football conference than the South Eastern Conference. I mean, for gosh sakes, any conference that has Vanderbilt and the two Mississippi schools in it, how good can it be?

I really think that Oklahoma has a good shot this year and I hope they do well every week except when they play Oklahoma State.
