I have been laughing over the “end of the world” Mayan calendar thing people have been talking about. We today is the end of the calender and we are all still here. The dooms day stuff has been in the media all of my life. First it was 1984, from the Orwell novel that predicts a totalitarian society that no one likes at all. Then came the Y2K scare when the new millennium kicked in, and everyone thought that the world was going to end, or the computers and lights would all shut off. Now the Mayan calender thing. I wonder what will be next. I know that someone will come up with something new soon. Until then, I will just keep on laughing.
Wedding guest book
Who knew that choosing a wedding guest book could be complicated? I didn’t realize there would be so many to choose from. It was amazing to see all of the different styles and colors and such. There are some really unique ideas for guests to sign out there. You can put out a monogrammed jar and give the guests little cards to sign that they can leave little notes or wishes on.
You can also have a photo mat that can be framed after the wedding is over. Then you just hang it on your wall and can enjoy the memories every day. I think I like the Jar the best though. I can just imagine what some of the notes would say, especially if the guests have been drinking. That alone is hilarious to me.
The Brave
I hope everyone has a good fourth. Please be careful with those fireworks and don’t drink and drive. I will be staying home this year and sleeping, since I have to work the next day. Boo.
Wish it was on the weekend but it isn’t so I just wanted to wish everyone a good day.
Me one day
I spend so much danged time at this computer that one day they will find my bones sitting just like this. I know that is funny, but imagine a thousand years from now, archaeologists digging up a part of the world and finding something like this.
I think that would make a serious statement about our culture today.
Wicked Weather
Lately the weather has been so nasty. The Northeast has received a few thunderstorms that are as violent as usually seen later in the summertime. Instead, these thunderstorms that bring hail and winds have arrived earlier. People have begun to put in their vegetable and flower gardens and to have such severe weather puts a little bit of fear and worry in the farmer’s heads. Folklore states that poor man’s fertilizer is lightning. This is fine except that all too often most recently the thunder has been accompanied by wind, heavy rain and hail.
Another part of the country that has received massive amounts of rain is the mid-west. Major flooding had begun in the Dakotas, stranding hundreds of people. The pictures the media displays on t.v. is so tragic. The snow is nearly melted in most areas, thank goodness! The damage would be much worse if there were still mountains of snow present. I surely hope the waters begin to receed soon. No one deserves such hardships.
Goldylocks
Gold has been around for thousands of years. Just recently, I heard on the news that the demand for gold is increasing. I especially saw this happening in the state of California. The price of gold is on the rise.
The anchor on the evening news suggested that people start buying and stocking up on gold over cash. According to the anchor the gold price is going to be worth ten times more than the monetary value of currency. I am very surprised over this but I guess things change.
After hearing this news I think I will plan a trip to California and join the gold rush. Perhaps I will strike some excellent gold prices and than be able to put it away for the future. I have bever been to California so this will be a much needed vacation. Let lady luck be with me or it is going to be a very sad trip home!
Extreme Weather
Extreme weather has been affecting a large part of our country this past week. I am very concerned for family and friends who live in the South and the Midwest.
There are wildfires in most counties across Texas. The fires are also in parts of Oklahoma and New Mexico. Not only have they gone without rain for a very long time, they are having high winds that fan the flames anke the fires very difficult to control.
Other areas are getting too much and areas along the Mississippi and Ohio rivers are flooding. The threats of levees breaking and even more homes and business being lost to flood waters is an everpresent threat.
Throughout the South and up the East Coast have been violent storms with tornadoes. Over 200 people have lost their lives yesterday in tornado related accidents.
My heart goes out to all the people fighting for their lives against Mother Nature’s recent furies.
The Most Beautiful Woman of the Year
Jennifer Lopez was named “most beautiful woman of the year” today by People Magazine. The award recipient for this award always surprises me. I don’t know why except that I always expect to see a different winner then who is chosen.
Jennifer Lopez or J-Lo has been actively involved in many projects lately. I wonder if they chose her due to her “big come back?” I have noticed lately she has produced a new song, has multiple shampoo commercials as well as being a judge on American Idol. She has certainly been a busy woman. And let’s not forget she is married with twin children.
One moment that was comical happened tonight on American Idol. The producers of American Idol decided to exemplify Jennifer Lopez’s award by placing a spot light on her and playing a song that repeatedly sang about a beautiful women. In a way it was overdone but Jennifer Lopez
didn’t seem to mind the extra attention. I wonder if she will score some additional business opportunities from this publicity?
No April Fool’s Joke
Tonight the weatherman all informed us of some bad news. He said the dreaded word “snow.” This time of year the snow is suppose to be gone, gone until next winter! We may receive up to 14 inches of heavy wet snow. That is disgusting.
Fortunate for me I have not put away my snow shovel yet. I guess I might have had some intuition about more snow before it was all said and done. The worst part about heavy wet snow is that it is going to be sticky and with the combined forecast of gusty winds that could mean power outages. I absolutely dread power outages I think more than snow in April. They both will end eventually but in the mean time cause discomfort. I think I will head to the grocery store to grab a few prepared food in case I can’t cook. The weatherman said that the Nor’easter may be a good April Fool’s Joke, but personally I do not find this funny!
Super moon
Tomorrow night there is going to be a super lunar occurance. The world news reports that the moon will be closest to the Earth then it ever has been. Astrologer Richard Nolle coined the term “supermoon” because the Earth’s satellite will be its closest in 18 years at a distance of 355,377 kilometers. This term also describes the new moon or full moon at 90% or more of its closest orbit to Earth.
Other scientists state that everyone should be vigilant during tomorrow night at well as through March 22. At this time the location of the moon’s orbit can cause a surge in tides, earthquake activity and volcanic activity. According to the USGS website the earthquake in Haiti occurred during this time as well as the most recent Japan earthquake. Scientists say that many of our natural disasters occur when the moon is closest to the Earth. Personally, I plan to go out tomorrow and check out the huge moon and wait just like I did years ago when they were warning us about Y2K. And what happened in the year 2000- absolutely nothing. Time will have to tell us.
