Seeing red

While putting my eyeglasses on my face yesterday I realized that I should probably schedule an appointment with my eye doctor.  For now,  I have not discovered any issues with my vision however, it has been at least two years since my last exam.

A person’s vision can change frequently therefore it is important to get regular check- ups at least every other year.  I think that I will probably look into a check- up this year once I am able to afford one.  My insurance does not cover the eye doctor.  This is unfortunate because it can be expensive.  Hopefully the only change that will occur would be for new lenses.  The cost will be less if I do not have to purchase new frames.

Rebound

It has taken a while but the stock market looks like it might be headed in the right direction finally. My 401K is still a 301K but that is better than the 201K I had a couple of months ago. I was told several years ago not to watch your 401K everyday because it will drive you crazy and I have taken that advise, kind of. When it was dropping like a condor holding a rock I checked more than I should of and it did make me a little nuts. Now that it is going back up I still try not to check it every day and I think that helps me keep calm.

Truck repairs

Today as I pulled into my parking spot I was told that I had no brake lights on the Tahoe. It never fails as soon as I get one thing fixed something else goes out, I got the brakes repaired a couple of weeks ago and they are grabbing and will need to be checked again very soon. Add in the brake lights and a few other odds and ends and the repair bill will be a couple of hundred dollars again. I keep putting money in our vehicles and get nothing in return.

The bills

Even as I try to keep my bills down to a manageable level they keep going up and up again. We have done away with our house phone, just using our cell phones now. I have done away with the premium channels on the cable, just basic cable is all we have now. We had insurance on a couple of vehicles that we did not drive and I dropped that too. It is very hard now to keep up with all of the bills I may have to take a second job just to keep even. I hope this all changes very soon I am tired of busting my hump to break even.

The money train

As I try and keep my money alive, I have been checking out a balance transfer and it has made a lot of sense to me. If I can move my money and make it work harder I will do it. I will do what ever I need to, to make my money work harder for me. I have told all my family about this great program and how it seems very safe to me and I know they will check it out, the Irish in us makes us save every dime we can get a hold of, and in times like these every dime you can save is huge.

Keeping my money working is my main goal and I have not been doing a very good job of it until now. I have been thinking about doing a balance transfer credit cards on the three credit cards that I have.

Credit Card Flyers has about the very best program to use for a balance transfer and I was amazed at the steps they have taken to make sure your money stays safe with them. A 0% APR balance transfer makes a lot of sense to me and I am sure that if you checked it out it would make good sense to you also.

Rising prices

The price of gasoline has started back up, but lets hope that the price of gasoline does not get as high as it was last summer. I do not think I could stand to pay $4.00 a gallon for gasoline again this year. It was very tough to make it last year with the price of gasoline going up along with the price of many items in the grocery store. Last year was very tough but we made it through and we are looking for a better year this year and next. Maybe we can get back on track for retirement in a couple of years.

Stock Market

The stock market has continued its free fall towards the bottom even after the bailout’s and the election. My 401K has lost over three thousand dollars and is still sliding. I know that three thousand is not the end of the world but this is my retirement money we are talking about, and now all I can see is me working until the day I die and that is not a very pleasant thought to me. Let us hope that after the new administration comes into power in January things will get better, and I hope it gets better very quickly.

Gas is $2.29 like omg!

Today I paid $2.29 a gallon for regular unleaded gasoline. I have seen in other parts of the country gas is under $2.00 a gallon and I hope it hits that mark here soon. I have paid enough for gasoline this summer for a lifetime.

I have never wanted a small fuel efficient vehicle but I think it may be time to reconsider that idea. I have been looking for a while and it seems the small vehicles would not do as well in our business and that is the only thing holding me back from getting a small car. If the price of gasoline goes back up it may be a necessity for us.

Those Rich Folks Owe Us Now

So the wimps in the House went ahead and passed the bail out legislation as presented by the Senate earlier this week, and the most inept President in history signed it today.

Those overpaid greedy professional gamblers on Wall Street now have a whole lot more money to play with, thanks to us taxpayers. And after all this, the DOW Jones STILL dropped 157 points. Unbelievable.

Price of gas drops

Here in Nashville the price of gasoline dropped, for a few day we were paying $3.15 a gallon. Now it has went back up to $3.45 a gallon. Still better than the over $4.00 a gallon we were paying just a few weeks ago. I know this current price increase is from the hurricanes hitting the oil producing areas of the Gulf of Mexico.

Hope that when the storms are over, the price will go back down to a reasonable rate. We need the lower prices to make any money in our newspaper delivery business. Our expenses have gone through the roof this summer and we are on the verge of going under due to the price increases.

We will just have to sit and wait to see what the price does this week after the storm passes. I, for one, hope it goes back down, but I am not going to hold my breath.
