School zone

I forgot that school was starting and like an idiot I got a speeding ticket. I was on the phone and just plain forgot that they had school for a half day today. It has been a long time since I got any tickets so i will just pay the fine and go about my business, of course I lost about an hour dealing with the cop and getting the ticket so I will have to make that time up this weekend at work. It was a silly mistake and I will slow up now, at least in the school zones I will.

Truck repairs

Today as I pulled into my parking spot I was told that I had no brake lights on the Tahoe. It never fails as soon as I get one thing fixed something else goes out, I got the brakes repaired a couple of weeks ago and they are grabbing and will need to be checked again very soon. Add in the brake lights and a few other odds and ends and the repair bill will be a couple of hundred dollars again. I keep putting money in our vehicles and get nothing in return.

Rising prices

The price of gasoline has started back up, but lets hope that the price of gasoline does not get as high as it was last summer. I do not think I could stand to pay $4.00 a gallon for gasoline again this year. It was very tough to make it last year with the price of gasoline going up along with the price of many items in the grocery store. Last year was very tough but we made it through and we are looking for a better year this year and next. Maybe we can get back on track for retirement in a couple of years.

The big one

I am not a huge fan of NASCAR racing but I do watch a couple of the races. The first race of the year at Daytona and the spring race at Bristol is great too. Let me add one more to my list, the race yesterday at Talladega was fantastic, they always have at least one “Big One” and yesterday they had a couple of big ones, the crash on the final turn may of been the most fantastic wreck I have ever seen I know I have not been watching racing all that long but it was amazing, I hope the folks that were injured in the crowd are all right. I heard that 2 of them had to be air lifted to the hospital. It was amazing.

New truck

This spring I will be in the market for a new truck, I have about driven the wheels off of all the vehicles we have now. I want a new Ford pickup but that does not work real well in our delivery business and I will wind up with a SUV that is more useful than a pickup is. I really like the Chevy Tahoe that we have and it has been a great truck for us. We have made a lot of trips in it and it has always worked well for us in our delivery business. I hate looking for a new vehicle that is time I could spend on something else.

Price of gas

Here in Nashville the price of gasoline has started to creep up towards $2.00 a gallon. We have had a good run of gasoline prices below $2.00 a gallon and I am sure it will keep going on up, back where the big gasoline companies can make even more money off us poor working slobs. My small delivery company can make a profit if gasoline prices stay lower than $2.00 a gallon but I am not holding my breath for it to stay down that low. We need price breaks on food and gasoline to make this country work we can not keep paying these high prices with our wages dropping like they are.

Gas is $2.29 like omg!

Today I paid $2.29 a gallon for regular unleaded gasoline. I have seen in other parts of the country gas is under $2.00 a gallon and I hope it hits that mark here soon. I have paid enough for gasoline this summer for a lifetime.

I have never wanted a small fuel efficient vehicle but I think it may be time to reconsider that idea. I have been looking for a while and it seems the small vehicles would not do as well in our business and that is the only thing holding me back from getting a small car. If the price of gasoline goes back up it may be a necessity for us.

Gas Shortage Continues

It’s been three weeks since Hurricane Ike hit southern Texas and the southeast continues to have gas shortages. About a third of all the gast stations in this area do not have any gas at all, for an entire day at a time. Some stations do have gas but only for about 3-4 hours and then they run out.

Thanks goodness for the site Gas Buddy – I use it every day and have been able to find station that do have gas. I hope we are almost over this shortage. I need normal back in my day!

Price of gas drops

Here in Nashville the price of gasoline dropped, for a few day we were paying $3.15 a gallon. Now it has went back up to $3.45 a gallon. Still better than the over $4.00 a gallon we were paying just a few weeks ago. I know this current price increase is from the hurricanes hitting the oil producing areas of the Gulf of Mexico.

Hope that when the storms are over, the price will go back down to a reasonable rate. We need the lower prices to make any money in our newspaper delivery business. Our expenses have gone through the roof this summer and we are on the verge of going under due to the price increases.

We will just have to sit and wait to see what the price does this week after the storm passes. I, for one, hope it goes back down, but I am not going to hold my breath.

Low prices?

Today, the price of gasoline dropped to $3.15 a gallon, a price we have not seen in a long time. Not so very long ago the price of gasoline was over $4.00 a gallon and rising.

I took all the vehicles that needed gasoline and filled them up today. I am sure this simple act by me will force the price to rise several cents over the next few days.

I hope it keeps going down and gets to a level that more people can afford. Just this drop of 85 cents or so has made our delivery business more profitable and has eased our money crunch. I hope it keeps going down, but I am not counting on that. We are formulating a “Plan B” to find an alternate source of revenue if the prices go over $5 a gallon this year.
