Dj for the wedding in Miami

I have a wedding to attend in Miami. Well to be accurate, I am the maid of honor. Planning a wedding long distance is a definite challenge. The djs in miami have at least been really helpful on that score. I have found everything I need to plan and execute the bridal shower as well as the bachelorette party. We will be having the wedding at Vizcaya gardens. They are absolutely amazing. A perfect setting for a wedding and a quite popular one too. Getting booked there was difficult. We had to change the date three times to be able to do it.

The wedding reception is going to be at the grooms parents house. It will be outdoors, (weather permitting of course) and we will have tents set up just in case we get some of those famous South Florida afternoon showers. Dj peoples were able to recommend a great place to rent the tents and such, without too much fuss. The weekend of the wedding is apparently a busy one for Miami, as it is the annual Calle Ocho festival as well. You wouldn’t believe how many companies we called that were going to be at the festival and unavailable for weddings or other events.

I am looking forward to Calle Ocho though, because the day after the wedding, a couple of us are going to go check it out since we will be there. Might as well make a whole weekend out of it and enjoy it to the fullest.

Letting go

There are times in your life when you just have to let go of the people who create all of that drama and chaos. I had to do this recently and it really hurts to do it. I am going to miss my friend tremendously, but after all of these years, she just refuses to grow up. When you have kids, life is not one big party. It’s responsibility, it’s teaching by example, it’s love and commitment to the life you brought into the world. I will miss you and I will miss your son, but I just can’t watch the train wreck of your life anymore. smh

Busted pipe

Well this is not good. We ended up with a busted pipe in the basement and there was more damage than we thought. The pipe burst while we were sleeping and we had no clue. By the time I noticed that something was wrong, the basement was knee deep in water. The plumber came and fixed the pipe, as well as pumped the water out for us, but now we have to worry about water damage repair.

The carpets down there will have to come up or be professionally cleaned. The drywall is totally ruined as well. Fortunately, the furniture that is down there in the family room, is rather old so I am not really worried about it. I bought it used so that the kids couldn’t really ruin anything nice. Kids do have a tendency to make a mess and spill stuff so it was smart on my part. I will go find some second hand stuff and buy it cheap, just like I did the first time.

The Emmys

Everyone loves to watch television and we all have our favorite shows. Every year Emmy awards are given out to celebrate the best and brightest of shows and the actors who portray the characters in them. Emmy awards are presented in two different shows, one for day time television and one for prime time. I really like watching the shows they put on. The celebrities are hilarious. The 65th Emmy Awards are coming up and I can’t wait to see it.

In the comedy series the nominees are;

  • The Big Bang Theory
  • Girls
  • Louie
  • Modern Family
  • 30 Rock
  • Veep

I am hoping that the Big Bang Theory wins the Emmy since it is one of my favorite shows. I never miss an episode of it. I prefer comedies and reality shows myself, but occasionally watch the dramas as well. I am not familiar with the nominees for the drama series this time around.  I was surprised that Neccessary Roughness wasn’t in the nominees. We all know that I really like that show.

  • Breaking bad
  • Downtown Abby
  • Game of Thrones
  • Homeland
  • Madmen

The reality competition is really good this year with the following nominees. My pick out of these is definitely The Voice. I like that they divide up into celebrity teams and then coach the singers themselves. It makes for a much better show and gives you more to root for.

  • The Amazing Race
  • Dancing with the Stars
  • Project Runway
  • So You Think You Can dance
  • Top Chef
  • The Voice

Out of the mini series or movie category I am totally clueless. I definitely haven’t seen any of these particular shows, but it is my understanding that American Horror Story : Asylum is the best of the bunch. I may have to start watching it if it wins. I have heard a lot of really good things about it.

There are a lot of really big names for lead and supporting actor and actress categories in each series. From Sigorney  Weaver and Jessica Lange to Michael Douglas and Kevin Spacey. That is some really heavy competition. You can pretty much guess who is going to take the awards, but every now and then they will surprise you with a new one that you are totally unfamiliar with. That of course just makes you want to see the show and find out what the big deal is.

I know that you are going to really enjoy this show since Neil Patrick Harris is going to be the host. He is amazingly funny and I know that he will cut up and keep us in stitches the entire time. Neil stars in the show “How I met Your Mother” He has won multiple awards for his various performances and has been acting since he was just a kid. I remember him from Doogie Howser MD, when he played the youngest doctor to ever graduate from medical school. That was a very long time ago though and he has performed in many, many different shows and movies since then.

Monday night football

We are going out tonight to the Buffalo Wild Wings to watch the game and have a little fun with friends. We haven’t been out with friends at night in a long time and this will be a lot of fun. I remember the days when we used to go out for Monday night football all the time. Beer and chicken wings and a good game with friends was so much fun. I am glad we get to do it tonight.

Bucket list

Do you have a bucket list? Ever since the movie came out people are always telling me what is on their bucket list. I have a few things and have had to remove one or two over the years.

  1. Dancing ( a waltz) with Sean Connery.  I mean what woman wouldn’t want to do that?
  2. Skydiving. Personally I think this is on just about everyone I know list.
  3. Travel around the world. Not sure how that is going to work out as it is a little dangerous to travel right now.
  4. Attend a Hollywood A list party. Okay meeting all your favorite entertainers would be fun. Admit it.
  5. A cruise and or deep sea fishing. I have never been out on the ocean only to the beach.

What’s on your bucket list?

My new motto

I think I am going to adopt this as my new motto. My friends and family might think I am crazy or have totally lost it, but hey, who cares. I am going to be positive from now on no matter what. I don’t care what life throws at me, I plan on weathering the storm with as much calm as possible. I think it is a better way to be then to get upset all the time.

Telling me all about it

My son is so excited about his new job, that he comes home and tells me every little detail. Last night he was telling me about the chainsaws that his uncle bought from www.sherrilltree.com. He says they are the best chainsaws ever built and work so good that they cut through the toughest trees. Well I am glad that he is so excited about this and equally happy that he is taking an interest in everything about it in order to learn more. It is just great that he is happy even though it is a tough job working out in the sun and heat like that.

I know a lot of men who wouldn’t be able to handle it. While I know that he is interested in the chainsaws and such, he is not allowed to run one, before you ask. The extent of his cutting is with a small hand saw or hatchet to help make everything fit into the trailer. I trust his uncle implicitly and know that he would never allow him to do anything like run a chainsaw at his age. Maybe in another couple of years when he is like 16 or so, will he teach him how to do that, but not now.

Summer job

So my 14 year old got a summer job working with his uncle. His uncle has a tree cutting service and needed help loading branches and stuff onto a trailer. It doesn’t pay as much as I would like but my son says he doesn’t care since he is making money. He is working to buy something, although I am not sure what as he won’t say anything other than there is something he wants to buy. At least he is working towards it on his own. I can’t wait to see what it is though.

Interesting

I was looking through the site to price the kids instruments for this year and found this. It is a korg ms-20 mini. I have no clue what it does, but seriously there are way too many knobs on it. How to people come up with stuff like that? What could you possibly need that many knobs and ports for on a “mini”. I don’t know, but I am guessing that my kids might.
