Happy Birthday Girlfriend

Today is my best friend in the worlds birthday.  We have been best friends since 4th grade.  That’s a long time.  She’s not only one of the most caring people I know, but also a great mother.  She has two daughters and the youngest was born just 4 weeks after my youngest.  The coolest part of that is her daughter and my son are best friends too.  Isn’t that just the sweetest thing?  I think so.

I was trying to decide what to get her for her birthday and decided the best thing I can do is to get her a Visa gift card.  That way, she can spend it how ever she wants.  She can go have her hair done, buy some new clothes for herself or take her girls out on the town and enjoy the day together if she wants.  I got her a nice card and mailed it so that she will get it this weekend and hopefully have a great weekend.  She already had some plans for today so that’s why I waited.

Computer error causes death

Life just isn’t fair when you lose someone you love to cancer but to lose them to a computer error is unbelievable.  That’s exactly what happened to a 27 year old man in England that was suffering from testicular cancer.  He was happy to get into an drug trial because he was told this would increase his chances of survival.  This man was engaged to be married.

A computer error caused him to be given double the amount of chemotherapy needed over a four month period.  This slowly poisoned him and he died.  There was another man also given an overdose of chemotherapy but he survived.

Computers are only as reliable as the person operating it and there should have been something written into what ever program written for this trial that would warn them that too much medication, chemotherapy or anything else that was to be given to patients had been ordered but it seems that the computer was what was ordering it.  Wasn’t a doctor paying attention?  I would have thought a doctor would have been checking behind what was being given.  A computer has no heart and soul and can’t think for itself like humans are supposed to be able to do.  The doctor over this should lose his license or be reprimanded at least.  What a shame.

Hot iPod Nano

Isn’t this wonderful.  Apple has finally admitted that it’s iPod Nano’s battery overheats.  I guess that makes it one ‘hot’ item, huh?  It says the problem has been rare and no serious injury has been reported.  Well that’s just wonderful that no one was seriously injured but even a minor injury is cause for alarm.  Especially when you consider who usually has these types of items.  That would be kids between say 10 and 18.

How traumatic would it be for them to be burned and scared by one of those things.  Battery burns are ugly.  IF you want to know more about it, check it out at http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/7571986.stm.  I hope you don’t have one of these.

First births and now deaths

For weeks we were hearing about all the babies being born to famous people and now it’s deaths.  Two famous men died last week one of which was Bernie Mac who entertained us all with his stand up comedy, his TV show and the movies he made.  The other was famous for his deep smooth voice, Isaac Hayes.  Neither of them were old by today’s standards either.

What a tremendous loss to the entertainment industry and the world.  Our loss is nothing compared to the loss their families and loved ones will feel.  God bless them and keep them by his side through their time of loss and grief.

Motorcycle precession line

The father of my first child was killed on a motorcycle when I was 5 month pregnant.  There were about 100 or more mostly Harley Davidson’s that just passed my house in a funeral precession for a woman that was killed on a Harley Davidson a couple days ago.  She was riding with her husband who is in critical condition and another woman on her own Harley and is also in critical condition.  A drunk driver hit both motorcycles killing the one woman.  He should be charged with premeditated murder!!!!!!!!!!

My sons father was trying to get home before it started raining when he was on his Yamaha.  He was trying to pass three cars in front of him that were going slow and didn’t realize that the minivan in front was about to make a left hand turn.  He ran up under the van and was killed instantly.  That still to this day haunts me.

This day couldn’t have been better if I had custom ordered it.  A bunch of us got together and went to a local lake on a friend’s pontoon and had a blast.  We fished, (I caught the biggest one) we played music, we laughed and we just had a great time.  It wasn’t too hot and it wasn’t too cold.  I’m telling you it was a perfect day.  There’s nothing better than being on the water, sunshine, and good friends and I had it all today.  I don’t get to go out without my children very often so it was a real treat but I have to admit.  I ended up feeling guilty that I didnt bring them along.  Mom let them play on the slip n slide in her back yard so they had a good time too.

Make mine natural

I’m a big fan of natural things that help make you feel better, and many people already know about echinacea that comes from the purple coneflower. There will always be scientific debate over how effective these natural cures can be. Our ancesstors used natural cures and some do work just like some don’t but that’s true with medicines too,

I know from experimenting on myself that echinacea, astragalus and some types of mushrooms certainly kick in the immune system or mine anyway. They can also give you a yeast infection just like antibiotics though. So if you are the kind of person that keeps a bottle of echinacea in your medicine cabinet, I recommend adding some reishi and shitake mushrooms to the mix along with astragalus. That will help keep down the yeast infections.
