Orange Has No Rhyme

One of my Facebook friends thought he was being clever and asked everyone what word has no rhyme. I knew the answer was orange. We learned that back in elementary school. LOL

Actually, if you do a search on the internet you can find the answer really fast. Plus there are about 22 other words that don’t have a rhyme. So there’s a little trivia for you.

My sister loves the stars

I have a sister that is an astronomer. She loves nothing more than to spend hours looking at the stars. She loves the Catadioptric Telescopes because of their quality. I don’t know that much about things like that so I had to do a little research to find out which one to buy her for her birthday. I found all kinds of information and all kinds of telescopes at opticsplanet.net.

The good thing is that she has now gotten into bird watching too. She is an outdoor girl anyway and by accident, she was playing with her old telescope one day and found an eagles next across the water from her house. There was even a couple of babies in the nest too. She was absolutely thrilled and that’s what got her into bird watching too. The eagles return every year too.

The printing industry

Earlier this month I was talking with Uncle Dave, who is a retired bookbinder. He was telling me about how he used to work for a book publishing company, and his job was to apply glue to the bindings of the books. I wish I had asked him for more details about the job because now I find myself wondering if he actually applied the glue by hand with a brush, or if there was any kind of machinery involved to help him with the application process. I wonder what his reactions would be if I showed him the web to print storefront business website that I found that does so much of the work digitally and mechanically that used to be done by hand. Progress can be bittersweet sometimes. The conveniences are great, but sometimes the workforce has trouble adapting, and a lot of people end up underemployed, and that can cause a lot of hardship if the workforce is not properly retrained. Thankfully my Uncle Dave is retired, and not looking for a job, so that has not had a negative effect on him.

Real Estate is more than selling houses.

Real estate is about more than just selling houses. It is about community and a better life for everyone who lives within it. Being a real estate agent takes dedication to that community, not just making money. As agents, we live within the communities where we work and building it up is as important for our own families as it is for those who have less than we do. It is an investment in our town, our neighbors and our families.

New agents must make a name for themselves and there are ways to do that and help people at the same time. Joining clubs and organizations can not only help build your business, but will also help build your reputation as a community leader. If you only join to help you make money though, people will be able to tell, so you have to mean it. Join something that actually means something to you.

Here is a list of organizations for those agents who wish to help out.

  • Boys and Girls club
  • Boy Scouts or Girl scouts
  • Coaching team sports
  • Historical society
  • Board of Realtors
  • Local politics
  • American Legion
  • American Veterans
  • Red Cross
  • Crisis centers
  • Knights of Columbus
  • Volunteer for hospitals, fire stations, food banks, Food kitchens or even toy and food drives

All of these and many more are great ways to give back to your community and make connections at the same time.  ZMG Construction is a perfect example of giving back to the community. They are involved in several organizations, like AMI Kids, which helps troubled youths, as well as the Boy Scouts of America. From Crime Stoppers to CECO, an education center for disabled children, ZMG leads by example. It is precisely this kind of giving back that makes for a really good company. Some of these organizations can be a lot of fun and everyone needs a little bit of fun in their lives. Enjoy the experience and make new friends.

Helping your community to be more sustainable is also a great way to give back. After all, you live there too and want to make sure that it is preserved for future generations. You can suggest ways for your clients to “green their home” and make it more attractive to buyers. Upgrading outdated appliances is a great way to start, as well as “heat as you go” water heating system. If they are going to replace a floor before selling, suggest that they use bamboo for a wood floor. Bamboo is much more sustainable than regular wood as it grows much faster than trees.

No matter what way you decide to join in, make a difference. People will notice that and your business will see the difference as well with more referrals. You will feel good about what you are doing and be successful at the same time. Your reputation will grow and people will know that you have roots in your community as well as a deep feeling of responsibility for it.

Credit repairs

Some years ago I had a serious debt problem. It took me forever to take care of it by myself. I never had any help and simply plugged away working multiple jobs to pay everything off. Today, you can go to professionals that I was unaware of back then. They were probably there, I just didn’t know about them. I heard later that there were commercials on TV for them, but as I worked so much, I never got to watch TV. Credit Repair Miami is one of the many available to help you consolidate your debt so that you can pay it down easier.

Also known as the Debt Relief Centers of America, they have a lot more knowledge than I ever did. I wish I had known then, that there were people who could help me. It wouldn’t have taken me half as long and I certainly wouldn’t have had to work so many hours. It seems like I missed an entire chapter of my life because of it.  I keep myself on a strict budget now, and hope I will never need them, but if I do, I definitely know where to go. I won’t make the same mistake twice.

School project

Some school projects are a lot of fun and some, not so much. Today we have to work on the boy’s science project and it isn’t even an interesting one. It is more of a report and less of an actual project. Oh I know that they can’t all be fun, but when it comes to science, they should be. It engages the children’s imagination and allows for more critical thinking that way. Not to worry though, it will be done and it will be good, but it will be very very boring.

She finally picked one

Well she finally picked a novation for her keyboard. I didn’t think she was ever going to figure out what she wanted. Oh wait, I am talking about my daughter, who has the most difficult time making up her mind about anything. Trying to buy her stuff is such a pain because she insists on picking everything out herself and then takes ten years to do it. Well not exactly ten, but you get the picture.

It’s a family thing

Since the whole family seems to be learning an instrument, I decided to start playing again myself. I am looking for a keyboard piano so I can accompany the kids as they are learning to read music and play their respective instruments. I think this would make for a great family time for us all in the evenings. What do you think?

Raising kids is not easy

In today’s world, raising children can be daunting. How do you give the a good moral compass, when there are so many outside influences to corrupt what you teach them? I have taken the honesty approach with my kids. I talk to them about everything. Doesn’t matter if it is sex, drugs, violence, etc… I even talk to them about politics and world events.

I think it helps that I treat them as adults when it comes to our talks. I don’t talk down to them, but I let them know that there are really bad things they can get into trouble for if they are not careful. Certain stuff may seem innocuous, but it isn’t. I totally recommend talking to your kids as if you were talking to a friend and not a child. They are smarter then you think…

Schools out and OMG

As a mother the beginning of the school year is exciting and new. We start fresh with new paper, notebooks, pencils and each day we help with homework and projects. As the year wan’s on, we get to that point where we cannot wait for the last day of school. The last few weeks, I don’t even bother to ask about homework, or sign notebooks. I am burned out and exhausted from constant go go go.

For some reason the teachers decide that they need to do a crap load of projects and such the last few weeks and honestly, I couldn’t care less. It may seem like I am a bad mother to them the last few weeks, but seriously, I am past the point of caring what they think. My kids will have a new teacher next year and we get to start fresh.

Then comes the realization that school is officially out and we can sleep in. Yay for me! However, big HOWEVER! Now I have three kids at home who think it is my job to entertain them. Zzzzz, I don’t think so. When I was a kid, we entertained ourselves and this summer they have no choice but to do the same. I know I will hear some whining, ( that is inevitable) but they are going to spend as much time out of doors as possible. (I hope and pray) O.o
