Men are such a pain. This man was so adamant about communication between us and then when he is upset about something, he gets quiet and wont talk to me. A relationship takes two people working on it and talking out their problems. You cannot ignore the person you are with or get quiet and pout. That solves nothing and only makes things worse. Get a grip and grow up.
Are the Muppets still relevant?
Guest written by our friend Sergio Chaney
Last night I was watching the CMA awards on www.expertsatellite.com and I saw a commercial for a new Muppets movie. Not too long after that the hosts of the show did a sketch with Miss Piggie. It got me thinking. When was the last time I saw the Muppets on something? I think it has been at least 10 years or more since I last saw anything new come out featuring the Muppets. I don’t have children so I am not up on these things but I would think I would notice a commercial or a print ad or something. Do kids even like puppets anymore? I would think that with the new age of technology and Pixar they wouldn’t be interested in watching puppets on a stage. I guess you still have Sesame Street whose characters are basically huge puppets. I always loved Big Bird and Snufalupagus as a child but you never know with kids these days. They probably watch CSI and try to figure out who committed the crime. Or maybe they are watching some computer generated cartoon that has deeply involved plots with twists and turns that you wouldn’t expect. Gosh I am glad I don’t have kids yet. I am not ready for their advanced little minds.
Watching for the Bus
When we moved out here, the idea of having a lot of land for the boys to run and play was one of the top reasons I wanted to get this house. The house itself is really old and needs a lot of work, but my backyard is 40 acres of woods, with creeks and hills, and a large cleared area down by the road where I can put a garden in the spring.
The only drawback to this property so far is that the school bus comes really early to pick up my kids, as they have to be down by the mailbox in the dark during the winter to catch the bus to school. It is only dark for about a month in the middle of winter, and every day that we get closer to spring means there is more light and the days get longer.
I don’t feel comfortable with the idea that my kids are standing by the road in the dark by themselves, so I usually get dressed when they get up and after breakfast I walk down to the mailbox with them and watch for the bus.
This morning it wasn’t so dark anymore and I thought that I might stop walking down to the road with the kids. But they surprised me and flipped out when I suggested it. I think that is kind of cool that they like spending those few minutes together first thing in the mornings. And I could use the exercise, anyway.
Raccoon’s
Well, with the cold weather here, it’s brought a little family of raccoon’s to nest in my attic. They may be cute, but they are very destructive and I store my holiday decorations and various other things up there.
I called a pest control service that humanely removes the raccoon’s with traps and then set them loose in the wild. I couldn’t see them harmed as some people would do, so this is best. Besides, the kids would not understand if we didn’t trap them, they would be very upset.
They set the traps and caught them within a couple of days. Now that they are out of my house, I have to clean up the mess and fix the hole they made getting in. Time to get to work.
Dominos Online Was Great
There were coupons on the bulletin board for Dominos Pizza, so I decided to order a pizza and maybe some hot wings for dinner.
I couldn’t find the phone number for the store that delivers to my neighborhood, so I decided to try ordering online. That was really easy. I just put in my address and they figured out who delivers and sent the order to them.
Online had more coupons deals and I got exactly what I wanted without being put on hold or having to repeat myself for someone who does not speak English. Then an online order tracker popped up, so I could tell how close the pizza was to being ready and on its way. It was really easy – I’ll do that again next time I have a pizza craving.
E D is the New E R
Lately I have been noticing that on TV commercials, shows and even newscasts, what I have always called a hospital “Emergency Room” is now being called the “Emergency Department.”
I have a problem accepting this change. Is it really necessary?
Am I the only one who would watch the TV series “E R” every Thursday night in the 1990’s? That show would just not be the same if everyone had to call it “E D.” I really miss that show – it was something I looked forward to every Thursday night. The whole house knew to leave mom alone if E R was on the TV.
It might be more properly described as an entire department rather than a room, but does it REALLY matter? I think we are taking all this political correctness to an extreme. If it works, why mess with it?
Tech School Promises
Am I the only one who is tired of the late night commercials for technical schools that promise a fast and easy “degree” and a guaranteed job as soon as you finish their courses? I know that dozens of people here are “degreed” and “certified” and they cannot find a good job. By good job, I mean a full time position in an acceptable environment. With benefits and a reasonable expectation of being able to continue working there for a long time.
I don’t care if they schools have placement assistance. Its hard to find a job right now and if you don’t have any skills or training, it is even harder. THAT is what they should be telling young people – you need more than high school to get a job. So get trained in something so you have some skills to offer.
