Friday Feels Like Wednesday This Week

All these holidays days off earlier in the week plus bookended by weekends have got my internal date/day/time clock totally messed up. I still know about what time it is, but my days are so confused. This does NOT feel like a Friday. I cannot believe that tomorrow is Saturday and I have two days off again so soon.

I did enjoy having Christmas on a Tuesday. That gave me the whole weekend plus Christmas Eve being on a Monday was like a free bonus day to get all the last minute things done. I know a lot of people took off Monday completely or were able to leave early to get home and prepare for Christmas day.

This weekend is my R & R weekend. I don’t have to clean anything, the tree and decorations are already put away, and I think I will stop by Redbox for a couple of movies to take home with me for a Friday night movie and popcorn night.

Tomorrow I will deal with a little bit of paperwork – I have to make new files for the bills and taxes for 2013 – that means I will get some practice writing 2013 and letting the fact that this really is a new year sink into my brain! Then I might call a friend and see if anyone wants to go to the movie theater and watch either the Hobbit or Lincoln with me. If you want to go, hit me up!

Favorite Movies

On my Facebook profile there is a section to list my favorite books and my favorite movies. There are pictures of the DVD cover for most of the ones that you list.

My list of movies grows every month. I really like comedies and well written adventure stories. I do not like a lot of violence or brutality. Some movies are so graphic and disturbing that i will turn them off and not watch the rest of it. Some movies I won’t even start to watch if I know ahead of time that they are violent.

It really bothers me to think that people can be so cruel and inhumane to each other. I don’t think this aggression is a natural condition of people, but maybe it is. If we think about it, all throughout history we have heard of horrible tortures and executions carried out. Very few periods of peace and prosperity but huge chunks of time devoted to war. It is so sad.

My top favorite movie has been ET every since I first watched it. I love the way the children behaved toward the alien and how predictable the adults can be. That movie is just as much about our human condition as it is about dealing with the possibility of life someplace other than Earth.

Sad Movies

Do you ever go to the movies and end up crying in the sad parts? I cry readily. I can’t help it. Anything that is really sad, especially when a main character dies, just chokes me up something awful.

I remember the first time I watched the movie, Steel Magnolias. It was such a great movie with a lot of very popular actresses. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, but then when the main character collapsed at home, alone with her little boy, I just lost it. Oh my goodness – that movie made everyone in the theater cry. But it was a great movie and I try to watch it every couple of years – and I cry every time.

Movie and Popcorn Tonight

It is cold and gloomy and a typical winter night. I just didn’t feel like going out in the cold to have fun with my girlfriends, so I rented a movie from Redbox and made a big bowl of popcorn.

The movie was called “Due Date.” It was a strange movie, but it had some funny moments. i think it was supposed to be a guy flick, without all the gratuitous violence and special effects. Anyway, I’m glad I watched it if for no reason other than being able to cross it off my list of movies to rent.
