August 1 Means School Starts

Today is the first day of school for the kids in the Metro area. A lot of other counties are either starting this week, too, or one day next week. I think it is crazy to start school in August, but this has been a long term effort to change our public schools into a year round schedule.

By starting in August, the schools build in a week of “Fall Break” in October, a two week “Holiday Break” and then a one week “Spring Break.” So the kids don’t really go for a longer school year, they just get more breaks.

Since I don’t have kids, it doesn’t matter much to me. I find is strange to go back to school before Labor Day, as that traditionally meant the end of summer where I grew up. But in the South, the warm weather lasts a lot longer and they have redefined the breaks away from Christian holidays to be more suited to teacher’s needing a break and professional development seminars.

School back in session just means longer drive time in the mornings, as the school buses mess up traffic. I absolutely HATE getting stuck behind a school bus on my way to work. I end up leaving for work 20 minutes earlier when school is in session just so I don’t have to deal with school buses. Getting to work early means less sleep for me and not enough time after I get to work to do anything personal, so I end up making coffee for the whole office and reading the newspaper for 15 minutes every morning. Personally, I would rather get that extra sleep and skip the newspaper, but I’m not willing to risk being late due to traffic. So it is what it is.

Surrounded By Difficult People

All day today has been really challenging for me. I feel like everyone around me is going out of their way to be difficult. Even people who are normally very sweet and friendly are acting rude. Maybe it is something in the water? It’s not the full moon, so we can’t blame that. But I have bitten my tongue way too many times today in the interest of keeping the peace and not offending anyone. I hope tomorrow these same difficult people change back to their normal selves and appreciate how much trouble they’ve been. If they show up grumpy again for a second day, I think I will have to leave early and just escape. I don’t think that I can put up with so much stuff two days in a row. I don’t have enough patience to be babysitting everyone who is supposed to be a grown up anyway.

Jerks Anonymous

jerks

Sometimes I think I am the jerk magnet – not the jerk whisperer. I have had enough with the jerks at work. Please make tomorrow a jerk-free day. I need a break.

Hey Cammy

One of my friends from work was talking about her blog while we were in the kitchen taking our lunch break. I didn’t know Cameron even had a blog! I have told all my friends at work about my blog – but I bet no one even cares. My work friends are good people to work with, but once 5:00 roles around they are gone.

Happy Labor Day weekend

Well it looks like it’s going to be a great Labor Day weekend for us.  Every room is booked and in fact, I had more calls for reservations than I had rooms.  Luckily some of them took dates for next weekend and some went ahead and booked for Halloween weekend and even Thanksgiving.

I hope that each and every one of you has a safe and happy Labor Day.  Unfortunately it’s also the sign of Autumn beginning but that’s okay.  All things must change!!

This coming weekend looks bleak

Well it looks like we’ll have the whole house to ourselves this weekend unless we get someone that just happens to drop by to see if we have an opening.  That does happen quite often so there’s still hope for the weekend.

Honestly, it would be sort of nice to have a weekend off because that means we can get some time off to do what ever we have thought about doing or just enjoy a relaxing weekend.  We shall see!!!!

Well it’s back to the real world

Back to school time will be here before we know it and as usual, we are running our ‘back to school’ special which is that if they bring a book bag full of the supplies a child would need, they get one night half price.  We have to look out for the children with all of the cutbacks in the school system.

It has become a tradition here that we collect school supplies and even people from the community will stop by to donate a few items here and there.  They ask nothing in return either.  It’s all done just out of the goodness of their hearts.  This is a great community and I just love it here.

We’re hosting a wedding party

The whole place is reserved for this Wednesday through Sunday.  We’re having a wedding.  I love weddings and this one if going to be absolutely beautiful, just as all weddings are.  They have left the reception to us so my fabulous cook will be making the wedding cake and everything else for the reception.

The florists are coming to see what flowers will work the best with the atmosphere and where they are putting all of them.    The wedding is Thursday and guests will be coming in on Wednesday.  Unfortunately we have limited space so some have made reservations at local motels but the wedding party is all staying here.

The wedding suite will be so beautifully decorated for this wonderful occasion too.  I can’t wait to get started on it all so I better get my rear in gear.  There are rooms to decorate and menu’s to prepare.

Where did July go?

Tomorrow is the last day of July and I don’t know where the time has gone!  It’s been a nice cool summer so far and business is down a little but it sure could be worse, ya know, with everything in the mess it’s in.  I’m just counting my blessings that business hasn’t been down anymore than it has been.

Oh, about my garden, well everything started coming up and the darn critters found it.  You guessed it, the pickings are slim in our garden this year.  We don’t usually have much trouble with the critters because we put out all kinds of stuff that’s supposed the keep them away from the garden.  I bet that boy that was supposed to do that forgot it.  I’ll have to ask him and see.  I wonder if he’ll be honest?  He better be!

They had a great time!!

I wish I had a picture of Little Joe’s face while he was telling me about Disney World.  He was grinning from ear to ear.  He got see Goofy, Pluto, Mickey, Donald, and a bunch of girls too he told me.  His mother was glowing just watching her little man tell me all about their trip.

I must say, her face was more relaxed and rested looking than I have seen it in a long time too.  She has worked so hard at college, here, and taking care of Little Joe too.  I am so very proud of her.  In fact, I couldn’t be prouder if she was my own daughter!!
