I Have Always Loved Horses

wild horses

This is a picture of horses that really caught my attention. I have always loved horses and have ridden since I was only 4 years old. I have always wanted to go out west and watch wild horses running free across the plains. That is something on my bucket list that I intend to do within the next year.

Pumpkin Patch Hunting

Today I went to the local Pumpkin Patch and hunting the most perfectly round big pumpkin I could find. I had a large one last year that was taller than it was round and it carved really nice. But I wanted something different this year.

The pumpkin patch had the pumpkins grouped by size. The really big ones were $40! Wow! I couldn’t believe that people are willing to spend $40 on a pumpkin that they don’t even eat – they just carve it and set it outside to decorate their porch.

The one I decided to buy was beautiful and I only paid $25. I think I could have found one cheaper, but this is a charity sale for the church youth group. I figured that since Halloween is supposed to be a holiday for the kids anyway, that supporting a youth group with my money was the right thing to do.

FB Friending Dilemma

I have a friending dilemma on my Facebook account. There is a girl who I do know in real life and I like her. But she is friends with my ex. I don’t like the idea of my ex possibly using this friend to stalk me on Facebook. So I don’t really want to friend her, but I don’t know if this is a real concern of just me being paranoid.

My other friends say that she is in touch with my ex and although no one has told me that she is dating him, I would not be surprised. So I have to figure out how to find out if she is really friends with him or dating him or what. And why this sudden interest in being Facebook friends?

Nagging Thoughts

Everyone has a little voice in their head that talks to them. Some people call it your conscience. Others call it self-speak.

My little voice keeps telling me that today’s date is significant but i cannot remember what is so special about it. It’s not anyone’s birthday or anniversary and I don’t have tickets to any shows or events. It’s driving me crazy! What is so important about June 15?

Free Fishing Day

Tomorrow is a special day that is not advertised very much but people who care will keep track and know when it comes. Tomorrow is free fishing day – when anyone can go fishing on any public water in the state of Tennessee and they do not need a fishing license.

I like to go fishing but I don’t think that spending $20 on a fishing license makes much sense if I am only going to use it once or twice over the year. Especially since I don’t even keep the fish and eat them – I believe in catch and release. So the fishing license and the parking fee charged at all the public lake access areas makes fishing awfully expensive for just a couple of hours standing on the banks holding a fishing pole.

Cookies and Milk

Dinner was over two hours ago and I’ve got the munchies. I don’t know what has fired up my sweet tooth, but i am craving cookies or something sweet tonight. I don’t even buy cookies at the grocery store, so I cannot exactly go to the cupboard and pull out a bag of cookies. If I want cookies then I have to bake them.

My favorite cookie recipe is the authentic recipe for Toll House Cookies that is printed right on the package for Nestles semi-sweet chocolates. It is tried and true and the only thing that I change sometimes is I add chopped nuts or I leave the nuts out.

There is nothing so comforting as a late night snack as a couple of cookies still warm from the oven and a big glass of ice cold milk. That’s what I need tonight, so I guess I will be mixing up a batch of cookie dough and baking a dozen tonight before bed.

Be Careful What You Share

dont put it on FB

Sometimes it seems like Facebook has been around forever. I use it every day and I love to keep up with family and friends. Facebook makes me feel closer to the ones I love and I have met some new friends, too.

Smart people will use Facebook like the tool it was meant to be and should be careful about what they share. You never know who is reading what your share and what they will do with that information.

Favorite Movies

On my Facebook profile there is a section to list my favorite books and my favorite movies. There are pictures of the DVD cover for most of the ones that you list.

My list of movies grows every month. I really like comedies and well written adventure stories. I do not like a lot of violence or brutality. Some movies are so graphic and disturbing that i will turn them off and not watch the rest of it. Some movies I won’t even start to watch if I know ahead of time that they are violent.

It really bothers me to think that people can be so cruel and inhumane to each other. I don’t think this aggression is a natural condition of people, but maybe it is. If we think about it, all throughout history we have heard of horrible tortures and executions carried out. Very few periods of peace and prosperity but huge chunks of time devoted to war. It is so sad.

My top favorite movie has been ET every since I first watched it. I love the way the children behaved toward the alien and how predictable the adults can be. That movie is just as much about our human condition as it is about dealing with the possibility of life someplace other than Earth.

Ready for Some Catfish

I’ve been craving southern fried catfish for over two weeks now. I really need to go get some catfish and fixings within the next couple of days or I’m going to burst.

Catfish is one of the very few things that I do not cook myself. I am a fantastic cook and I love to cook. I just don’t like to cook fish. For one thing, it smells up the whole house for the entire day and night. I can’t stand to walk in the door and smell fish in the air.

For another thing, catfish needs to be breaded in a nice cornmeal mixture and then fried in a big vat of hot fat. I don’t have a big vat and since I almost never use fat to cook anything else, it would be a colossal waste of good cooking oil – not to mention the huge expense of a gallon of oil – for a one time use.

I am perfectly happy to let the professionals at a local catfish house do the cooking for me. Now I just have to find someone else who likes catfish that I can drag along with me, because I am READY for some catfish and all the fixings!

Girls Night Out

My girlfriend, Vicki, called this morning and wants to get a few girls together and have a girl’s night out. I think that’s a great idea. Sometimes we need to have some girl time together, to talk about the things our men folk aren’t interested in and just have some girl fun. Its nice to spend a lot of time with your man, but every good, healthy relationship allows for – in fact, needs – some time apart.
