Happy Independence Day!!!

I love the 4th of July!!  We really go all out to decorate, well we do that for every holiday but there’s just something about Independence Day that I love!!  We always have a huge community picnic type party with grilled hot dogs and hamburgers with all the fixin’s and of course potato salad, baked beans and we can’t forget the banana pudding and homemade ice cream.

Then there’s the fireworks display.  I love all of the laughter, ooohhh’s and aaahhh’s from the children when the fireworks start.  It’s just a wonderful time for all!!!   I hope each and everyone of you have a wonderful 4th of July and remember what the celebration is all about, our independence!!!

How about a vacation in Florida?

The picture of Cinderella and that adorable little girl started me thinking.  I have checked out several web sites and found a bunch of great deals for Little Joe and his mother to go to Disney World for a week.  She worked so very hard this year in school and has a couple of weeks off before she has to go back for the summer semester so why not reward her hard work with a vacation.

I can just imagine Little Joe’s face when he sees Goofy.  That’s his favorite character but he just can’t figure out why Pluto can’t talk and Goofy can when they’re both dogs.  I can’t explain it to him and neither can his mother.  I guess we’ll just have to wait for him to come up with a reason.  I think I heard him call Pluto a ‘dumb dog’ the other day.

Well the season is off to a good start

It’s still cool up here at night and some days are a little chilly but the people are making reservations at my bed and breakfast better than I thought they would.  With all of the job losses in the state, I was beginning to worry about my business this spring and summer.

I guess people are planning weekend getaways and vacations closer to home like they did last year.  I just hope they keep telling others about my little piece of heaven here in the mountains.  Well that’s what it is to me anyway.

I admit it, I’m a Dancing with the Stars junkie!

I don’t take much time to watch TV but on Monday night and Tuesday night, I’m glued to the TV for Dancing with the Stars!  I have been a fan since the first season.  I always wanted to take dance lessons but my father wouldn’t let me for some reason so I guess I sort of live my dreams through watching them dance on TV.

I just hate that tonight is the season finale.   I sure have had a hard time guessing who would make it this far.  I really thought Lil Kim would have been in the final four but that’s not the way it happened at all.  That just goes to show how much the viewers votes determine who stays and who goes.  Did you see the freestyle dance Shawn and Mark did.  They got straight 10’s and should have.  It was by far the best freestyle of the night.  I found it on youtube just in case you missed it.

Who knew?

Here I was looking at some rather awful mug shots of celebrities and ran across one that I had absolutely no idea who it was.  By the way, some of those pictures were absolutely awful too.  I bet the celebrities didn’t ask for a copy to have framed and put up on their walls either.

Anyway, I’m sitting there trying really hard to figure out who the heck this young guy was and then I scrolled down just a little bit more and my mouth dropped.  It’s Al Pacino!  Check this out and see if you would have known him.  The little article that told me who he was said:

Long before playing lawbreakers in “The Godfather” and “Scarface,” Al Pacino (yes, that’s him!) was charged with carrying a concealed weapon in 1961. No wonder he’s so good at playing tough guys.

If you ask me, he was pretty darn cute even back then.  No wonder he play’s tough guys so well.  Looks like he grew up a tough guy.

Got to keep the kids entertained

Little Joe just loves to watch movies, especially Disney movies.  I have now rediscovered some of my old favorites like Pinocchio and 101 Dalmatians.  Well since he enjoys watching Disney movies so much, I decided to join the Disney Movie club.  Not only will I have DVDs that Little Joe can watch, but I’ll also have a collection of DVDs that my guests can use to entertain their children when they visit.  I didn’t even know there was a Disney Movie Club and I found it by luck at disneymovieclub.go.com.  If you have little ones, it’s a great way to build up a good selection of Disney Movies.

You can get the old favorites like Old Yeller and Cinderella but you can also get Hannah Montana too.  You know, that’s one talented little girl Billy Ray Cyrus has there.  I like the positive songs she writes directed at young ladies too.  She’s had a few slip up but all in all, she’s a pretty darn good role model for your girls.  Much better than Brittney Spears turned out to be or Lyndsey Lohan.  Sorry girls but you fell off of the ‘good role model’ wagon a long time ago.

Well it looks like the economy is starting to hit

Even there was snow here, business was off just a bit.  In fact, I don’t have half the reservations that I normally do on the books this time of year.  I have to admit it’s the slow season for us because people are ready for spring and warm weather and are more interested in hitting the beaches rather than the mountains but by now, we usually have several weekends already booked solid for late spring and into the summer.

I guess people are afraid to make any reservations right now for fear of not knowing what will be happening then.  I’ll have to come up with some other ways to bring people in.  That’s one thing about owning your own business, you have to stay up on ways to improve your business.

Well there was more to Valentines Day

We were absolutely booked solid for Valentines Day.  With the excitement of moving Celeste and Little Joe into their new apartment, I forgot to tell you about how we celebrated Valentines Day here at my Bed and Breakfast.  We had special packages for our customers where they could get a dozen roses, rose peddles on the bed, champagne, strawberries dipped in chocolate and a special dinner served in their rooms.  It’s always a big hit and this year wasn’t much different.

In face, we’re usually booked solid for Valentines Day by Christmas.  Most of the people that made their reservations were ones that have been here for Valentines Day before.  Love is definitely in the air here and it’s a wonderful time for all.  This year we added a couple of things that we didn’t have before to help bring in more customers in a tough economy.  We threw in the whole weekend instead of just Valentines Day.  So for what they usually paid for just the one night, they got the complete weekend.  It worked I am so glad to say.  I just hope all of you had a Valentines as full of love as my home was.

Happy, Happy Valentines Day

Well you should have seen both Celeste and Little Joe’s faces when they saw the apartment.  Celeste had no idea that the apartment was for her.  She thought it might be for me as a get away from everything.  That would have been a good idea too but she needed to have a place of her own where she could feel at home instead of just ‘staying’ here.  She’s an amazing young woman and I wanted to show her my faith in her.

Little Joe was running from room to room yelling “Mommy come see this” he was so excited and down right tickled at just about every turn.  He absolutely loved his new bedroom.  He came out with a huge smile on his face, looked at me and said “Is this all for me?  Thank you Mamaw April, I love it all” and then gave me a big hug and a kiss.  He loved his bed and the wall mural my friend painted for him of all of the animals he loves so much.  I was quite impressed with the way it turned out myself.

Celeste cried.  She looked at me and said “How am I ever going to be able to repay you for all you have done for Little Joe and I?”  The look on their faces was all the repayment I needed.  I simply told her “Make yourself and Little Joe proud by going to college and making a wonderful life for you and Little Joe.  That’s all the repayment I need.  Well that and having you two in my life, I can’t ask for any more than that.  You have brought more  light and love into my life as I have yours and this is my way of thanking you for that.”

Needless to say, we stood there and cried like a couple of idiots but isn’t love grand?  Love comes in all shapes and sizes.  It comes in many different forms too and people need to realize that.  Love of a friend or child is every bit as important as Love of a husband or wife so cherish all forms of love you have!!!
