Ham or Lamb?

All the Easter dinners I’ve ever had all my life have been centered around a ham. It’s just been our family tradition to get a half a ham and serve it on Easter Sunday for dinner. Then we have ham leftover for sandwiches the following week and a big ham bone to make bean soup by the weekend.

For some reason several of my friends are planning on having lamb for their Easter dinner. I don’t know why they prefer lamb but I find it interesting that family traditions can be so different.

Well, I have already bought my ham for dinner tomorrow. I am looking forward to keeping my family tradition going.

Fried Catfish

I never tasted fried catfish until we went on a trip to Tennessee and noticed that there were lots of restaurants that call themselves catfish houses. I though that if there are so many of them, they must be on to something good! So we stopped in at one and ordered catfish. It was delicious! I would love to be able to cook that myself at home. Although I don’t usually fry many foods, I think that catfish must be fried to get the best flavor.

Chili Dogs and Tater Tots

Sometimes you just have a craving for a hot dog. I drove into a Sonic parking stall today and just went for t. I got a foot long chili dog, with chopped onions, tater tots, and a Route 44 cherry limeade. It was AWESOME! I love Sonic!

Comfort Food

With the prospect of being snowed inthis weekend, I’m going to make a dash to Kroger like everyone else and stock up. I know I need the regular stuff, like milk and fresh bread. But I want to have some things on hand to cook comfort food and maybe do some baking, too. Got any suggestions and recipes to share?

Ho Ho Ho

Hope that Santa Claus found your house last night and was very good to you.

I had a really nice Christmas already, and we have not eaten dinner yet! We are about to sit down to a huge feast, with Honey Baked Ham, sweet potatoes, my mom’s pineapple spoon bread, and coconut cake. Nothing like eating traditional holiday dinners cooked by the people you love!

Thanksgiving Feast

This year I’m not cooking Thanksgiving dinner. I’m going to spend the whole long weekend with my mom and dad. I will head over to mom’s house around 3:00 and help her with the last minute things in the kitchen, then we will all sit together at 6:00 sharp for dinner.

I hope you have a nice Thanksgiving and get to enjoy food that tastes as great as what I will be having!

Starbucks Menu Changes

The driver through menu board at Starbucks looks different. It has been totally done over. This new menu board has photos of several delicious drinks. It is hard to know what they are going to taste like, but the photos are really nice and all of the drinks are topped with whipped cream or foamed cream and drizzles of different flavored syrups.

Craving a Hot Dog

Most of the time I only want a hot dog when I’m at a ball game. but for some reason I have been craving a hot dog today. I want a big one, like the Oscar Mayer bun length all beef franks. I want the bun to be fresh and soft and steamed with the dog in it. Then I’ll put a stripe of ketchup and a few dabs of yellow mustard on top, and enjoy a serving of pork and beans on the side. Now, that’s a great lunch for a summer weekend!

Good Morning

Hot coffee is the best way to start a morning. Humans do well with a set morning routine. Mine includes making a small pot of coffee with my fresh ground, custom blend of coffee beans. I sip on it while reading my email, Facebook and newspaper links. Then, as I’m waking up, I can deal with putting on makeup, choosing the day’s clothes, and fixing my hair. An hour later, I’m ready to tackle the world!

We’re hosting a wedding party

The whole place is reserved for this Wednesday through Sunday.  We’re having a wedding.  I love weddings and this one if going to be absolutely beautiful, just as all weddings are.  They have left the reception to us so my fabulous cook will be making the wedding cake and everything else for the reception.

The florists are coming to see what flowers will work the best with the atmosphere and where they are putting all of them.    The wedding is Thursday and guests will be coming in on Wednesday.  Unfortunately we have limited space so some have made reservations at local motels but the wedding party is all staying here.

The wedding suite will be so beautifully decorated for this wonderful occasion too.  I can’t wait to get started on it all so I better get my rear in gear.  There are rooms to decorate and menu’s to prepare.
