Ho Ho Ho

Did Santa come visit last night? He brought me lots of nice things! I especially like the new coffee maker. Its on of the Keurig single cup makers. They use a little plastic cup filled with different coffee flavors, called a k-cup. I love these and can’t wait to set mine up in my kitchen and have a cup of fresh Columbian coffee in the morning.

Sausage Gravy

Most of the time I skip breakfast meats and eggs in the mornings. I like an English muffin, a bagel or maybe just some cinnamon raisin bread toast with a little real butter. In the summer I might try a bowl of cold cereal, but in the winter I don’t really like the cereal.

For Christmas I bought a lot of extra foods that I don’t normally eat. I have the stuff to make sausage gravy and buttermilk biscuits on Christmas morning. I might cook a hash brown casserole, too. Just don’t know what to do about the eggs. I can’t make an omelet. Maybe just scrambled – with a little cheese.

Awesome Dinner

Thanks to my mom for cooking a most awesome Thanksgiving dinner today and having everyone come to her house. She did all the traditional foods, from a beautiful turkey to the best mashed potatoes in the world.

But my favorite was her sweet potato pie for dessert. I know most people like to cook pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving, but in our family it is tradition to have sweet potato pie. That’s what my dear grandmother would fix, and my mother has carried on with that tradition. And I expect my sisters and I will, too.

Crazy Shopping Day

Every Saturday I do my grocery shopping. Its not that I like to do it on Saturdays, but most nights after work I am too tired to deal with it. So, reluctant to admit I am becoming a creature of habit, I headed out to the grocery store this morning.

OMG! What a ZOO! I totally forgot that this weekend is the weekend before Thanksgiving. It was four times as many people in that grocery store. I realized how crowded it was and gave up after 10 minutes in the store and hadn’t made it through the produce department yet.

I’ll go back later tonight – I can’t stand crowds and am not willing to spend 2 hours shopping for my groceries today.

Quick Bite

Where do you go when you know it is lunch time and you need to get something to eat – but you aren’t really all that hungry?

I am sick of hamburgers and needed to get something quick, so I decided to drive through Taco Bell. I got a couple of tacos and a tall cold drink and didn’t spend much cash. It hit the spot – a couple of tacos were all I needed.

We are surrounded by fast food restaurants, but most of them start to taste bland and boring. Still, a couple of tacos are better than having to get up early in the morning to cook and pack a hot lunch.

Frost on the Pumpkins

pumpkin carvings
Bought a pumpkin last night at the local church pumpkin patch. It was only $10 and I like to carve a pumpkin for Halloween even though there’s no kids in the house. I just think it is part of the fall celebration and its fun.

If my yard got more sun I could plant some pumpkin seeds myself and have a nice garden. But there’s no sun – too many trees. Then again, the shade from the trees is nice and helps keep my house cooler in the summer. So its a trade-off.

Best Burgers

Last night I made the best burgers. I decided to take some ground chuck, not regular hamburger meat, and mix it with some chopped onions. Then I sprinkled a couple of heaping tablespoons of dry ranch dressing into the meat. I added some ketchup to the meat for moisture and put them on the grill. Wow – they turned out so tasty – finger smacking good!

My favorite burger toppings is a slice of fresh tomato, a dab of mustard and a thick slice of vidalia onion. If you happen to have some leaf lettuce handy, that is good, too.

Hot Apple Cider

Winter makes me crave comfort foods, like meatloaf or chicken and dumplings. I also crave hot beverages, like hot green tea, hot chocolate and hot apple cider. I just tried the Caramel Apple Spice drink from Starbucks, and I LOVE it! If you like apple cider, I hope you give this a try next time you go to Starbucks. It’s dee-lish!

Toothache

Woke up this morning and ate a sausage biscuit. But there must have been a small piece of bone or grissel in the sausage, because I bit down and hurt my tooth. I can’t tell if it is broken or cracked or what, but I hope I can get in to see my dentist today – this is painful.

Sobes On Sale

Love it when my favorite drinks go on sale. This week Kroger has the Sobe drinks for a special price of just 50 cents per bottle, with a limit of 10 per customer. Usually the Sobes are $1.59 at the grocery store and $2.59 at the convenience stores. So 50 cents is an incredible bargain. I will have to go to Kroger every day this week and buy the maximum 10 bottles to stock up!
