Lightning Bug Season

Tonight I went for a short walk with my dog around the block. When I got to the hill, I looked across and saw something bright. At first I thought it was the eyes of an animal. We have skunks roaming our neighborhood at night, and I was worried that a skunk would come after my dog. So I stopped and looked a little harder. Turns out it was not a skunk and not the eyes of anything critter. It was a lightning bug! And then another one lit up near the first one, and then the yard seemed to explode with little twinkles of light. It was pretty magical and I was so grateful that it was not a skunk!

Christmas Decor

This Christmas card made me think of a great joke to pull on my mother. She has always loved trips to Florida, and Florida has this thing about flamingos. So we kids started buying her crappy things with flamingos on them. Like coffee mugs, blanket throws, curtains, lamps, all kinds of junk. It got to be so much that she has a whole bedroom dedicated to her flamingos collection.

It would be a real hoot to find some of the large plastic flamingos and put them in her yard with Santa hats on them. OMG! She would get such a thrill!

Frost on the Pumpkins

pumpkin carvings
Bought a pumpkin last night at the local church pumpkin patch. It was only $10 and I like to carve a pumpkin for Halloween even though there’s no kids in the house. I just think it is part of the fall celebration and its fun.

If my yard got more sun I could plant some pumpkin seeds myself and have a nice garden. But there’s no sun – too many trees. Then again, the shade from the trees is nice and helps keep my house cooler in the summer. So its a trade-off.
