Darn allergies going nuts

I have allergies unfortunately.  I’m allergic to mold and with all the rain we have had and the leaves down, mold is everywhere.  It hasn’t been cold enough to kill it so I’m suffering big time because of it.  My ears feel like they have cotton in them, my sinuses are like they’re packed in cotton too and I just feel yucky for lack of a better work.

I have been getting allergy shots since June but they don’t seem to be helping that much yet.  The doctor said that once I get to my 40th set of shots, I would see marked improvement.  I sure hope so because this is the pits.  I have 3 air cleaners in my house and I’m okay there, it’s just everywhere else that gives me a fit.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

I don’t think I have ever been so glad to see a year pass like I have this one.  The year 2008 will go down in my memory as not what I would call one of the better years.  In fact, between the state of the economy and everything else, it rather sucked!!!

I have so much HOPE for 2009.  HOPE is a powerful word.  When you have nothing at all, as long as you have HOPE, then you have a chance.  Without HOPE, you have nothing.  Well I have HOPE and hope and pray that there are many others out there that do to.  I would hate to think that they didn’t.

Things are going to turn around.  It might take some time but it will get better.  We always go through tough economic times when one party has been in office for several terms and then the next party is voted in.  Most of the time it’s not quite as bad as it is now but we have someone that has given most of us HOPE in the form of Barack Obama.  We shall see if he lives up to at least half of his promises which I believe he will live up to more than that if at all possible.  That would be a record for a politician.

Whew am I glad Christmas is over

I do love Christmas but I’m so glad when it’s all over and I can just sit back and relax for a day or two.  It’s rush here and go there and wrap this and ‘Oh no, I forgot that!’

I don’t care what I forgot to buy for who, I will not go out shopping the last week before Christmas.  I hate the way they commercialize Christmas.  That’s not what it should be.  It should be a time to celebrate with family and loved ones.  It’s supposed to be a celebration of the birth of Jesus.  Not a celebration to the gift god.

It’s amazing how many people don’t realize that Santa Clause represents the Three Wise Men bringing their gifts to the Baby Jesus at night so as not to bring trouble to him.  That’s how Santa Clause came about and what he stands for.  Christmas is a celebration of children but we need to all make sure that even the youngest child knows what we are celebrating and why.

Sure they are the center of Christmas but the true center of Christmas is Jesus Christ.  No I’m not a religious fanatic but I do know that there is something or someone greater than I am.

My oldest sisters birthday is today

No I’m not about to tell you how old she is because I wouldn’t live to ever do it again.  I personally think it’s silly not to want people to know how old you are.  There’s not a darn thing you can do to change it so what’s the big deal?  My mother is like that too.  They are the only ones that have a problem with telling how old they are.  My other sister and I could care less who knows how old we are.  Sort of like Popeye always says “I yam what I yam.”

She has always hated her birthday being this close to Christmas.  She said it always felt like just a few extra presents for Christmas instead of her birthday.  In fact, a lot of people would buy her things and put “Happy Birthday and Merry Christmas” on it.  They would also wrap her presents in Christmas paper instead of Birthday wrapping paper so it just made it all run together for her.

Mom tried to help her out by giving her something on our birthday too but it started to get a bit expensive when she started having to buy presents for all three of us on each of our birthdays.  Oh well, it was good while we got them though.

Things I ordered just arrived

Boy was I glad to see the UPS truck pull in.  I had ordered a bunch of stuff from abcdistributing.com and it was getting a bit too close to Christmas for my comfort.  I was scared to death that something had happened to my package because it was supposed to be here three days ago.  They had never let me down at ABC Distributing before so I kept my fingers crossed and hoped for the best.  I almost gave the UPS guy a big hug when he knocked on my door.

I kept remembering one Christmas when Mom ordered just about everything we girls were getting from JC Penney’s and they promised her that she would have the items by the beginning of December.  Well it didn’t come and it didn’t come and Mom called and called and all they could tell her is it was shipped and should be there and IF it isn’t, then give it a day or two and it will be there.

Just four days before Christmas, Mom had to go out and try to find presents for us for Christmas.  It was crazy and we didn’t get hardly anything we had asked for but it was still a good Christmas.  Then in February, the UPS guy knocked on the door with a package……………you guessed it, our Christmas presents.  Mom told him to take it back and make sure they took as long to get it back to JC Penney’s as it took for them to get it to her.

Do you like healthy muffins?

I love muffins but they can be fattening.  I have found a recipe for healthy muffins that aren’t too bad.  The best part is you make them one at a time right in a coffee cup in your microwave oven.  If you’re used to eating a big muffin for breakfast then you can make two of them.  One is enough for me.  It’s made with Flax seed meal.  Flax seed is good at lowering your bad cholesterol and raising your good cholesterol so they’re healthy.  Here’s the recipe just in case you’re interested.  Oh you can buy Flax seed meal in some grocery stores but if not, check your local health food store.

1/4 cup    Flax seed Meal

1/2 tsp    Baking Powder

1/2 tsp    Ground Cinnamon

1 tbsp      Splenda

1 egg

You can add raisins or other fruit like blueberries if you like. Mix well and put in a coffee cup that has been sprayed with cooking spray.

Microwave for 1 minute on high.  It’s that simple to have a fresh muffin in the morning that’s good for you too.

I hate this part

They are putting Christmas trees and decorations out before Halloween even now.  I hate that.  Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years all run together.  What gets me is about the day after new years, they start putting out the Valentines stuff.  I don’t want any Valentines candy that was bought on January 2nd.  That’s over a month before Valentines Day.  I’m sure the candy is probably the same candy you would buy the day before but it’s the thought that it has sat there all that time.

I don’t know what I’m complaining about.  I don’t like candy.  I’m not a chocolate person.  I know, I know, I’m weird.  I’m the only female I know that isn’t nuts about chocolate.  Now I do love Reese’s Cups but they are more peanut butter than chocolate.  Oh I like the Hershey Krackle bars too.  That’s chocolate but I don’t want one very often.  I’m more of a vanilla type of girl.  I love French Vanilla Cappuccino but don’t like coffee.  I’m a tea drinker most of the time.

Well now you know what kind of nuts blog you are reading, huh?  Well every one’s different, thank goodness, because it sure would be a boring place if we were all the same or similar, don’t you think?  I sure do.

Went to Mom’s for dinner

Mom likes to have all of us over at least once a month for dinner.  We thought since Thanksgiving is around the corner and going to be at her house, she might want to count that as our monthly dinner.  Well she would not hear of that.  She said she looks very forward to our Sunday dinner and isn’t going to let Thanksgiving take the place of it.  I think she just loves to cook for us and always makes our favorite dinner too.  She’s where I got my love of cooking from.  I can remember standing in a chair beside her ‘helping’ her cook by watching the pots.  My job was to let her know when the pots needed to be stirred.

My mother makes the best beef roast you have ever put in your mouth.  With that, she makes mashed potatoes with cream cheese and of course there has to be a wonderful salad to go with it.  Salad is not just lettuce to Mom.  It’s tomatoes, broccoli flowerets, radishes, carrots, and just about anything else you put in salad.   She makes her own croutons too and they are wonderful.

She makes the best homemade sourdough bread too.  We always leave with a loaf that she has made for each of us.  She won’t give me that recipe but promises it’s mine when she’s gone.

Great gifts

Are you like me and look for things that you just don’t see every day?  Well I love to get presents that people just don’t expect.  One of the best places I have found to do that is at abcdistrubuting.com.  They have some of the cutest, coolest, and unusual items on there that you have ever seen.  The prices are great too.  A friend of mine at work told me about them and I am so glad they did.

I do a lot of my gift giving from their books.  You can go to their web site and sign up to receive their catalogs or you can shop online.  I like to shop online instead of ordering from the catalog because it gets here faster.  I’m one of those ‘I want what I want when I want it, not later’.  Are you like that too?  I hate to be that way but I can’t help it.  I got it honest because both of my sisters are like that and we got it from Mom.

Oh trust me, Mom denys it everytime one of us tells her it’s her fault.  Daddy used to tell us that we were all just a little too much like her but it must have been okay because he sure loved her and loved us too.
