This is interesting

The great writer, O. Henry, began life as William Sidney Porter.  Porter spent time in Honduras to avoid embezzlement charges in the United States.  He eventually returned to the United States and spent time in jail, which is where he began writing the adventure stories that made him famous.

There seems to be a lot of people that have become famous after pulling time in jail like Johnny Cash, Johnny Paycheck, and a lot of other country singers.  I didn’t know about o. Henry though.

Happy Birthday Elvis!

I don’t want to think about how old Elvis Presley would have been.  I like remembering him like he was in the ‘Aloha from Hawaii’ concert or in black leather like he was dressed in when he did his TV comeback show.  Talk about the best looking man you have ever laid eyes on that can sing…………you got the total package with Elvis.  Can you imagine if his twin would have survived?  Two of them running around, what a dream.

My mother said I used to jump up and dance my little rear end off when an Elvis song came on when I was a baby about 18 months old.  I have been a huge fan all my life.  His daughter, Lisa Marie, looks just like him too.  She is a beautiful woman.  It’s a shame that Elvis didn’t live to see her grown and to see his grandchildren.  Family was very important to him.  I have never watched the last concert that was televised that he did.  I just don’t want to remember him that way.

There are so many songs he did that I love.  American Trilogy used to make me cry and does even more today.  Especially when he sings “So hush little baby don’t you cry, you know your Daddies bound to die.”  Gets me every time.

We’re having a New Years party tomorrow night

Well my sisters and I have all decided to get together with a few friends and have a New Years party tomorrow night.  We’re having it at my sisters house since she has a kid and she won’t have to take him to a sitters that way.  He’s a great kid so I’m sure he’ll be out by 9 pm, which is his regular bedtime.  Even if he stays up a little late, that’s okay with us too.

There’s not going to be a bunch of drinking and stuff like that.  We are all not much on drinking.  I think it’s because each of us are control freaks and drinking makes us give up control.  Can’t have that.  Plus there’s nothing worse than someone telling you what a good time YOU had at a party and you were too drunk to remember.  It’s more fun to stand back and watch everyone else make a complete and total idiot out of themselves.  Not that’s fun!!!

Anyway, we’re all splitting the cost for soft drinks, a bottle of champagne (which none of us like the taste of but we have to toast the new year), and all of the snack food so it won’t cost anyone very much.  There should be about 12 people there not including my nephew.

The Eagles

One of my favorite all time groups is The Eagles. I have always loved their music, even when they split off into their solo acts. I was glad to hear that they had gotten together for a renaissance album and I bought it recently while at Wal-Mart. The new album sounds great. I heard a couple songs that I knew immediately would get radio airplay, but I have a couple that I really like that I doubt will make it to the top 40. But that’s OK – I have never been all that mainstream in my musical taste.
