Summer Clearance Bargains

I visited the department stores yesterday and they were all gearing up for the Fall and Winter seasons. I browsed through fall fashion of sweaters and cardigans in oranges and browns and tried on winter boots and scarves. But I’m not exactly ready for the fall season. I like summer and wish it can last forever.

On the way out of the mall, I happened to stop by a Home store. The Home store put their summer goods on clearance. They had nice patio furniture, grills, and fun summer home accessories at half-price so I took the opportunity to make my summer last longer by purchasing some summer items. I decorated my house with blue throw pillows, breezy curtains, seashell candles and voila, I feel like summer days are not quite over – usually we have nice weather until November. Then we never know from one day to the next what temperatures to expect. It can be 70 degrees one day and then 36 degrees the next!

Paper Plates – Really?

Never realized until yesterday that some people do not uses dishes for their meals at home. They use paper plates. I guess this is because they do not either have real dishes or they don’t want to wash their dishes after they eat off them.

I don’t understand the logic of either one. It has to be expensive to buy paper plates, they are more expensive than real dishes after just the second or third purchase! And to be too lazy to wash your dishes? OMG! If you are THAT lazy, you are hopeless.

Mandatory Reading for Farmville Players

bookcover of farmville for dummies

Why do so many people spend hours and hours on Facebook every day playing this Farmville stupid game? Its not like you are getting paid for farming their stuff. What do you get out of it? Nothing! Its just a huge time suck. Get over it!

Early Tick Season

My poor dog was getting so shabby looking because I haven’t taken him to the groomer for a couple of months. His fur was getting too long and raggedy, and matted up, too. So I finally scraped enough money together to take him to the groomers yesterday.

Of course, the price has gone up again – it cost me $50 to give him a “day at the doggie spa” at the local groomers. They do a really good job, though. They cut his nails, brush his teeth, give his a good bath and then cut his hair really nice.

I was shocked when I picked himup and they told me that they found 4 ticks on him. OMG! I had no idea that we had ticks out yet! And my backyard is not all that wooded, either. His hair was so long that I couldn’t even see the ticks! I’m so glad I took him to the groomers – and very glad that they took care of those nasty ticks – I hate taking ticks off a dog.

Special Star Watching Nights

Some of my friends are talking about some special things going on in the night sky over this next month or so. There are some special alignments of the planets that means that on some nights we can see three planets very clearly, and Venus will be totally HUGE to the naked eye.

And then there will be a short period when we can actually see five planets in the night sky at the same time. You don’t even have to go use a big telescope or anything – you just have to know where to look. I am going to check that out – I think the stars and planets are very cool.

Litter Collection

Ever since I moved into this neighborhood, there has been a lovely, older man and his dog taking care of litter along my street. He has come out for a long walk with his dog every day, rain or shine. But I have not seen him since New Year’s Day.

Here it is, 20 days into the New Year, and he has not been walking our street. I have a very bad feeling that he is sick or hurt. But I do not know which house is his. I know it is not one of the houses actually on my street, because I do know every one of my neighbors, all the way down to the stop sign. So he must either live on the street that runs parallel to mine, or on the street that T-bones mine at the stop sign.

I hope he is OK and that his absence is just temporary. I looked forward to his friendly waves and once in a while petting his dog if I happened to be outside when he came along.

Let’s Do the Tree

Some people put up their Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving or at least one day on the weekend right after Thanksgiving. I know a lot of my girlfriends would never consider sacrificing their Black Friday shopping for the sake of decorating a tree. But most people have their tree up and decorated by now.

I really need to get on that – maybe my girlfriend Margret will come over and give me a hand. She loves to decorate and do all that domestic stuff. Her house is always gorgeous with all those special touches, and she even goes out and helps some local businesses decorate their office. I’m fine with admitting that I need help. Margret???

Christmas Decor

xmasflamingos

This Christmas card made me think of a great joke to pull on my mother. She has always loved trips to Florida, and Florida has this thing about flamingos. So we kids started buying her crappy things with flamingos on them. Like coffee mugs, blanket throws, curtains, lamps, all kinds of junk. It got to be so much that she has a whole bedroom dedicated to her flamingos collection.

It would be a real hoot to find some of the large plastic flamingos and put them in her yard with Santa hats on them. OMG! She would get such a thrill!

Frost on the Pumpkins

pumpkin carvings
Bought a pumpkin last night at the local church pumpkin patch. It was only $10 and I like to carve a pumpkin for Halloween even though there’s no kids in the house. I just think it is part of the fall celebration and its fun.

If my yard got more sun I could plant some pumpkin seeds myself and have a nice garden. But there’s no sun – too many trees. Then again, the shade from the trees is nice and helps keep my house cooler in the summer. So its a trade-off.
