What a phenomenal woman

In April, Maya Angelou was interviewed by Oprah on her 70+ birthday…Oprah asked her what she thought of growing older. And, there on television, she said it was ‘exciting.’

Regarding body changes, she said there were many, occurring every day…like her breasts. They seem to be in a race to see which will reach her waist first. The audience laughed so hard, they cried. She is such a simple and honest woman, with so much wisdom in her words!

Maya Angelou said this:

Good luck to Robin Williams

Robin Williams i one of the most talented people there are in the entertainment field today.  He’s not only a wonderful actor but he is extremely funny too.  I heard that he’s going into the hospital for an “overhaul” as he put it.  He’s 57 years old and I guess it’s time for a bit of an overhaul.  I sure do wish him all the best and a speedy recovery.  Here’s to you Robin!!!  God Bless you!!!!

I think I’ll order Mom some good vitamins too

In case you can’t tell, I do love my mother and want nothing more than to keep her around for many more years.  One good way to sort of assure that is with good quality natural vitamins.  I take beta glucan and it does make me feel better since I started taking them. I bet they would help Mom to feel better and have more energy too.  This is sort of one of those times when you might be wondering who’s the mother and who’s the daughter, huh?  Well even daughters try to take care of their mothers too, you know!!  That’s all I’m trying to do is keep her around and healthy as long as possible!

IT’S RAINING!!

I just got back from lunch and when I stepped out of the door to go to lunch, it was raining!!  Boy do we need this rain too.  It’s been really dry again lately and they have a burning ban all over the state.  It looks like we could get out of this darn drought sometime, ya know.

I think it’s supposed to rain pretty much through Sunday and then the stupid ‘S’ word was spoken too.  SNOW!!  Like I told you earlier, I’m sick of winter and so very ready for spring to come and stay.  Winter keeps playing peek-a-boo with us just like spring lately.

Got left over rice?

When I cook rice and yes I cook real rice and not instant or in that pouch either, but if you have leftover rice, try this with it.  I make fried rice with my leftover rice.  It’s really simple and good too.  It makes a great lunch or even a quick dinner if you want.

Here’s what I do.  I heat my pan with cooking spray in it.  Chop up some onions (if you like onions, put more, if not don’t put much in it).  For me, I love onions so for about a cup of rice, I add about a forth of a cup of chopped onions and put them in the pan to cook slightly.  Then I put in my rice and stir it around to mix the onions into the rice.  I let that cook while stirring it almost constantly in the hot pan for about 5 minutes.

Have 2 eggs beaten up in a cup ready to put into them but first you add soy sauce (that depends on your taste too but at least a tablespoon or more) to the rice mixture in the pan and sprinkle with some garlic powder.  Mix all of the ingredients well and make an area in the middle of the rice for the egg.  Pour the beaten eggs in the ‘hole’ and mix everything well while the egg cooks.  Once the egg is cooked, you have fried rice.  You can also add any meat you happen to have left over before you add the egg too.  Add a salad or steamed broccoli and you have a good meal that’s cheap too.  Try it sometime.

Getting a new mattress

Now that I am getting a new bedroom suite, I have decided that maybe I need a new mattress too.  I didn’t realize that mattresses were so expensive or that there were so many to choose from.  I decided to check out online to see if I could find what I really want cheaper and I did.  I found a web site that has the down pillow top mattresses like I want at a really great price.  I hate a hard bed but my mother loves them.  I like to feel like I’m laying on a cloud and that’s what the pillow top mattresses I have laid on feel to me.

The really neat thing about this site is that I can also find a down pillow like I like.  I really don’t care for a hard or too soft of a pillow.  Nothings worse than laying on a pillow and it keeps your head up too much and gives you a crick in the neck or goes so flat that you may as well not even have a pillow.  I like the down pillows because they’re soft and yet not too soft.  I guess I’m a bit picky, huh?  Oh well, I like what I like and that’s the way it is.

I didn’t realize allergies could be deadly

I’ve been around people with allergies and thought that basically, they consisted of sneezing, coughing, runny nose and itchy eyes.  Well I found out the hard way that they are a lot worse than that to some people.  One of the ladies that works in our office has ‘severe allergies’.  Now that everything is trying to come out, her eye will swell completely shut and she has even had to use an epi-pin on herself too.

If you don’t know what an epi-pin is, it’s a thing that you have to hit yourself in the leg with and a needle comes out and injects you with medication.  This is used when someone is having an anaphylactic reaction or in other words, their throat is closing up and they can’t breathe.  Once this is done, the person has to go to a hospital or their doctor at least.  Scared the bee-jeebies out of everyone in the office.  I honestly had no idea that allergies could be like that.

I had no idea

There’s a new young lady at work that had moved out here from California.  She’s a really nice person and has proven to be a big asset at work.  She’s on the ball too.  If there’s something that needs to be done, she sees it and gets to it without being told to do anything.  Well we were talking yesterday and I asked her what in the world would make her want to move from California to the east coast.  Her answer almost shocked me.

You see, she was living in Malibu but found herself having to go through Drug Detox.  She had been in a car accident and gotten addicted to pain killers as a result.  It escalated to the point that she checked herself into a Drug Rehab facility there.  She just didn’t seem like the ‘type’ of person that was a drug addict but that ‘type’ is no longer true.  There is no ‘type’ of person that is a drug addict.  It can be even you if you ever find yourself in need of pain medications.  Even Alcohol Treatment isn’t just for a ‘type’ of person anymore.  Thank goodness more and more people are seeking treatment and this is a wonderful treatment center.

Crazy weather we’ve been having

Well yesterday it was 67 degrees and today it’s supposed to be close to that again.  I love it but here’s the strange part.  It’s supposed to start raining this afternoon and rain through the weekend.  That’s wonderful news since we really need some rain but now they’re talking about SNOW on Sunday night?  SNOW for crying out loud!!

I am so very ready for spring and they’re talking about snow after two days of the temperature in the 60’s.  That’s almost a slap in the face from ‘Mother Nature’ but I guess that’s just her way of making sure everyone knows she’s still in charge, huh?  Typical woman, don’t you think???

This has to be the strangest thing I have ever heard of

I know that other countries have different traditions and beliefs and I have no problem with that.  I’m sure that other countries think we do things a bit odd here.  Come to think of it, there are a few things I would have to agree with them on too but this is by far the strangest thing I have ever heard of.  I came across it on news.yahoo.com and here’s a bit ot the story:

BHUBANESWAR, India (Reuters) – An infant boy was married off to his neighbors’ dog in eastern India by villagers, who said it will stop the groom from being killed by wild animals, officials and witnesses said on Wednesday. Around 150 tribes people performed the ritual recently in a hamlet in the state of Orissa’s Jajpur district after the boy, who is under two years old, grew a tooth on his upper gum.

The Munda tribe see such a growth in young children as a bad omen and believe it makes them prone to attacks by tigers and other animals. The tribal god will bless the child and ward off evil spirits after the marriage. “We performed the marriage because it will overcome any curse that might fall on the child as well on us,” the boy’s father, Sanarumala Munda, was quoted as saying by a local newspaper.

The groom, Sagula, was carried by his family in a procession to the village temple, where a priest solemnized the marriage between Sagula and his bride, Jyoti, by chanting Sanskrit hymns, a witness said.

The dog belongs to the groom’s neighbors and was set free to roam around the area after the ceremony. No dowry was exchanged, the witness said, and the boy will still be able to marry a human bride in the future without filing for divorce.
