Recession hurting a lot of marriages

Everyone knows that one of the main things that destroys relationships is money.  It seems that this recession is not only taking it’s toll on investors and home owners but also on their marriages.  That’s not too hard to figure out is it?

If there’s not enough money to pay the bills, of course it causes major stress between the couple.  Of course they don’t mean to blame the other for being laid off but it’s hard not to sometimes.  I’m just really glad that I’m not in a relationship right now.  I have a hard enough time keeping myself happy, much less trying to keep my partner happy too.

Sure my dinners don’t have nearly as much steak or high priced meats as they did a few months ago.  You cut back where you can and hope for the best but when there’s two of you and a mortgage, two car payments and so on, it’s hard to cut back when you have next to nothing coming in.  I wish them all the best and hope and pray that the recession doesn’t break up as many families as it has displaced workers.

Well we broke a record here

Ever since they have been keeping weather records, this is the first time ever that we have had 5 days in a row of 70 degrees or over in February.  That’s so cool to me.  I am so loving this weather.  But get this, here’s the bummer in all of the wonderful weather.  We might get snow Sunday night into Monday.  Welcome to February I guess.  I’ll gladly take the 70’s but they can keep their snow.  I’ve had enough and I don’t think that’s going to stop the possibility of snow though.

I guess I better head to the grocery store to get milk, bread, and eggs because anytime they call for the dreaded ‘S’ word, you can’t find milk, bread or eggs anywhere.  Wonder why that is?  I guess those are the three things you’re most likely to run out of.

Another beautiful day

I can’t believe how warm it is lately.  The wind is blowing like it does in March and I’m getting spring fever something awful.  I just hate cold weather and what it does to everything.  Everyone gets sick, your skin dries out and you just feel like going to bed, pulling the covers over your head and hibernating till spring.

Well hopefully spring will come early like it seems to be doing.  I sure hope so.  I’m ready to see the leaves on the trees and flowers blooming in the yards.  I’m tired of all the dreary days.  I want to get out and go fishing, go on a picnic or something besides sitting in the house shivering.

I love to have dinner parties

The last dinner party I had was for New Years.  It was great because we had the southern traditional dinner of blackeyed peas (they’re supposed to represent pennies), ham (which is supposed to be for health) and greens (which are supposed to represent money).  Not many people knew about those traditions so it was a lot of fun in that I got to share a bit of southern tradition with them.

The next dinner party I have I’m going to use some of the great dinner party ideas I found online.  They give you menu suggestions and also decoration suggestions too.  There are some great ideas on there.

Did you know……..

One of Britain’s leading organic food and drink lines, Duchy Originals, was created by none other Prince Charles, who started the brand in 1992.  Products are made from organically farmed grain from his Highgrove Estate.

Did you know that without the Mixican long-nosed bat, you wouldn’ tbe able to enjoy your tequila.  That is because the bat pollinates the blue agave plant, from which tequila is derived.  How about that?  Pollinated by a bat with a worm in the bottle……….never mind, make mine a White Russian.

Do you eat healthy?

I try very hard to eat healthy every day.  Some days it’s not that easy when it’s a super busy day though.  Like sometimes at work if we have to work late, they’ll order out something and it’s not usually the best things if you know what I mean.  I love Reds and Sweet Tender GreensTM.  They are the best salads you can buy I think.

Not only are they good, they are really good for you.  They have two new salads available but my favorite is Reds and Sweet Tender GreensTM..  You know how if your food looks good, it tastes better?  Well this is really a pretty salad that’s also good for you.

They’re full of phytonutrients which in plain English means they are full of plant-based nutrients.  These types of nutrients help to boost immunity and provide antioxidant protection.  They also promote promote eye health too.  Just check out their new web site for all the information you need to learn more about the benefits of phytonutrients.  You won’t be sorry you did.

No I did not watch the Super Bowl

I like football.  Really I do but I didn’t watch the Super Bowl last night.  I already  knew that Pittsburgh would win but it would have been really nice if the Cardinals would have pulled off an upset.  It just wasn’t meant to be though.

I did get to see the commercials on the Internet today.  Some were pretty good like the Dorito’s commercial with the guy that the bus hits.  That was a good one.  The crystal ball one was pretty good too.  What the heck is SOBO?  That whole commercial was pretty out there and I don’t even know what the product is they were selling.  I loved the Budweiser horse bringing the huge stick.  That was really good.  Oh well, to each his own.

Bet you didn’t know this either

February 1865 is the only month in recorded history not to have a full moon.

The winter of 1932 was so cold that Niagara Falls froze completely solid.

Rubber bands last longer when refrigerated.

A “jiffy” is an actual unit of time for 1/100th of a second.

The cruise liner, QE 2, moves only six inches for each gallon of diesel that it burns.

Peanuts are one of the ingredients of dynamite!

The microwave was invented after a researcher walked by a radar tube and a chocolate bar melted in his pocket. (Good thing he did that.)

Almonds are a member of the peach family.

Now you know more than you did before!!

We’re having a New Years party tomorrow night

Well my sisters and I have all decided to get together with a few friends and have a New Years party tomorrow night.  We’re having it at my sisters house since she has a kid and she won’t have to take him to a sitters that way.  He’s a great kid so I’m sure he’ll be out by 9 pm, which is his regular bedtime.  Even if he stays up a little late, that’s okay with us too.

There’s not going to be a bunch of drinking and stuff like that.  We are all not much on drinking.  I think it’s because each of us are control freaks and drinking makes us give up control.  Can’t have that.  Plus there’s nothing worse than someone telling you what a good time YOU had at a party and you were too drunk to remember.  It’s more fun to stand back and watch everyone else make a complete and total idiot out of themselves.  Not that’s fun!!!

Anyway, we’re all splitting the cost for soft drinks, a bottle of champagne (which none of us like the taste of but we have to toast the new year), and all of the snack food so it won’t cost anyone very much.  There should be about 12 people there not including my nephew.

Wanted to wish you a Merry Christmas

Well tomorrow is Christmas Day and I’m sure the last thing on my mind will be my computer.  I wanted to make sure to wish everyone a Very Merry Christmas to anyone and everyone that reads my blog.  I do appreciate it very much that you stop by.  I hope I have brought a little pleasure into your life or helped in some small way.  That’s what life is all about, helping one another.

My father always volunteered at the local Disabled American Veterans Association and that’s a legacy we carry on in his honor.  They’re feeding the local veterans or the families of deployed service men this evening and my family will be there to gladly serve them.
