A Richmond, Virginia man paid $17,000 for four strands of hair believed to have been snipped from the head of George Washington, the first president of the United States. The hair was sold at an auction in Lexington, Kentucky.
The auction house owner, Jamie Bates said he had expected it might go for as much as $75,000. “But I’ve never sold George Washington’s hair before, so I don’t know.” The hair, which was pressed under glass, had been owned by a Philadelphia lawyer and had been handed down in his family for several generations.
My question is how could anyone ever prove if the hair was or wasn’t the hair of George Washington? They sure don’t have any DNA from him to prove it. It could be some old woman’s hair for all anyone knows. Oh well, as long as the man that bought it is happy with it, then that’s all that really matters I guess.
