Beautiful Sunday

Finally! A weekend with decent weather. This was the first Sunday with weather that let us get outside and enjoy ourselves without it being too hot or ruined by late afternoon thunderstorms. This summer has been unbelievably hot. Although it did get close to 90 degrees again today, with the clouds blocking the sun and a little breeze, it did not seem so hot.

We took advantage and went outside as much as possible. We even took a drive over to the lake and fed some ducks and geese a few pieces of stale bread that we had brought with us.

County Fair

Last week was the end of the big Williamson County Fair and this week is the start of the huge Wilson County Fair. I thought about going to the Williamson County Fair, but to be honest, it was way too hot for me to want to go stand in long lines and be surrounded by thousands of sweaty smelly people.

This weekend is much cooler and I’m planning on going all day tomorrow. If I bring my church bulletin with me I can save $2.00 off the admission price!

Mr. Groundhog Predicts an Early Spring

Nashville’s sky was covered with snow heavy winter clouds this morning, so there was no way a groundhog could have seen his shadow.

I know that the groundhog in Pennsylvania supposedly saw his shadow up there, but let’s be honest. Pennsylvania weather is nothing like Nashville weather. I bet on any given day the temperatures here are at least 6 – 8 degrees warmer than anywhere in Pennsylvania. We’ll have spring before Pennsylvania every year and this year I bet we have spring weeks before the northern states.

Another Hot and Humid One

In a strange way I feel like I wasted a precious Saturday by not doing anything active. It was so awfully hot and humid that I just couldn’t bear to go outside any longer than needed to walk my dogs three times.

I walk them 3 times a day regardless of the weather. They need the outside for exercise and bladder relief. I need it for a chance to clear my head and build character.

It has been in the upper 90’s and low 100’s for a week. It was a good day to stay indoors and catch up with a little housework and some internet surfing.

Found some awesome photo blogs and links from them to others that were awesome, too. Several of them use a Nikon D300 camera for their work. I’m going to look into getting one – I’m so jealous.

It was a good day, although not very productive.

Going to the Lake!

This looks like it is going to be the first really nice weather weekend we’ve had all spring. In fact, it is like summer now!It was in the 80’s yesterday and it is supposed to be the same again today.

So my sister and I are going to take her son to the Lake and put a blanket out on the sand to watch him play. There is a really nice public beach just 5 minutes from my house, with a huge sand beach, a nice playground with slides and swings, and a bath house with indoor toilets and sinks and private changing rooms. It is all free except for the parking fee.

The State charges $5 per car for daily parking, but I found out that if you buy a season pass, you only pay $35 dollars for unlimited parking all year. The parking fees go directly to the State fund for taking care of the parks, so I don’t mind contributing to that, since I use it a lot.

Change Your Clocks! Spring Forward!

If you change all your clocks to be an hour ahead right before you go to bed tonight, then the time should be right when you wake up. If you don’t do it until morning, you might forget and end up being late for church.

Don’t you just hate losing that hour of sleep in the spring?

Snickers bars and Pop Tarts

When the weather starts getting bad and there’s a chance I’ll have trouble on the road, I like to pack a small emergency pack to keep in the car. I put a blanket, several bottles of water, and a few packs of crackers, trail mix, snickers bars, and pop tarts. Even my dog likes the pop tarts – they are frosted strawberry and make a great portable snack.

Brrrrr

Wow – we got a blast of artic air down here! It’s freakin cold!

Usually I only have to wear a coat in January and February. I wonder if this is just going to be an anomaly of a winter for us and be colder and longer than normal?

It was so cold this morning getting into the car that I was at the interstate before the heater started blowing warm air in the car. I was having to hold my hand in front of my face and blow on it to get it warm enough to grip the icy cold steering wheel and then switch hands and blow on the other one. I’m not liking this cold weather AT ALL.

70’s in November!

Wow! What a weather perfect weekend this is going to be! The forecast is for sunny days with temperatures in the 70’s and no rain for several days in the foreseeable future! This is perfect weather for doing fun things outdoors, like rock climbing, exploring the lakeshore, or even raking leaves and pruning shrubbery. This is the weather we should have had last month – it’s very unusual for November.

There is football on TV this afternoon and tomorrow, but the weather is too nice to be sitting inside watching a TV. I’m going to make the most of the nice weather and stay outside as much as I can!

Alaskan vacation

I have been wanting to go to Alaska forever. I have family there and have never gotten to visit them. My cousin has been trying to get me and the rest of my family to come up for a long time. We have considered it off and on, whether to just go up for a visit or to take a cruise while we are up there. We even looked into alaska hotels to see if we could find one that is near enough to visit family, but also to just enjoy the trip.

This lodge style hotel is just what I am looking for if we decide to go up. I want the full experience of the Alaskan “frontier” style vacation. This kind of hotel embodies that style to it’s fullest.

This is the kind of views you can expect to see in Alaska. I cannot imagine a more beautiful place on earth to visit, I asked my cousin how she could deal with the extreme cold during the winter and she said” The perfect summers make the harsh winters totally worth it”. Can you imagine a “perfect summer”? The perfect temperature all summer long without being too hot at any point is definitely worth experiencing. As much as I love to ski, I don’t think I would ever brave a winter vacation there though. That would be a bit too cold for me.
