Bell ringers already

This is getting a bit far fetched. I went shopping today and at every store entrance and exit there were the bell ringers for Good Will or Salvation Army dressed up like flipping Santa, or standing outside the store freezing their butts off. I hate not giving, but this is too much. I give some at CHRISTMAS. Yet it isn’t even Thanksgiving yet. I can’t afford to shell out money like that. And also I’ve noticed that these people get really pissed off if they don’t get a donation.

Tired but not sleepy

I’m tired, but not sleepy and that bugs me. When I’m tired I want to go to sleep right then, but can’t. It’s better to stay up for awhile then toss and turn though, I suppose. Writing makes me sleepy, so guessย  ya’ll are stuck with me. LOL!

I don’t do Mondays

I really don’t like Mondays lately. Mondays never used to bother me until about a year ago. Maybe it’s because of getting older or something. I feel pretty blah this morning and it seems like my body does not want to get up so early to start doing the things I have to do today. I feel like just getting back into bed and going back to sleep, but then I no doubt wouldn’t because the lazy guilt’s would kick in, and I’d not be able to sleep anyway. Time to start the week.

Dreading grocery shopping

I have been procrastinating going to the market and grocery store and running the errands I have to do. Grocery shopping, even for one person scares the hell out of me anymore. I have noticed, as everyone undoubtedly has, that grocery prices are soaring and there doesn’t seem any respite in sight. I so feel for people who have to feed families of two or more. It’s nearly impossible to eat healthy with the prices as they are. What kicks butt is “Lady Michelle” (and I use that term loosely anymore) raves about eating healthy and our kids having healthy meals such as hers do. I’m sure those two girls indeed have healthy meals. Umm.. DA…they are the President’s children and have free access to all these healthy tidbits of nutrition. Normally I don’t speak like this about politics the President, no matter who he is, or in a negative nature about issues concerning our “Leader”. I have had enough though. I could go on and on and fill pages now about issues I’ve kept my mouth shut about. But for now…I have to write a grocery list that will not drain my bank account. I seriously doubt if I’ll be eating as healthy as I used to be able to though.

The hot weather I asked for!

Well, I have to say that I am finally getting the hot and humid weather I have asked for. While everyone is complaining about the heat and the humidity and my dogs are moping around looking for a cool place to hang out, I’m in seventh heaven knowing that this won’t last as long as I would like it to. In the mean time, I’ve put out water with ice for the animals, give them special cool dishes that they will eat, instead of dog food and I remember how much I hate the cold winters here and that I am miserable though them. Actually with the ceiling fans going and the box and floor fans on, it’s really not too bad in the house. I hear people who complained about the cold all winter now complaining about the heat we are having now. It never ceases to amaze me when I hear this. Me? I’m just enjoying it all.

BET’s Game is back!

Guest written by our friend, Mario Reed.

There are so many shows that I watch on television, but I have to say that one of my most favorite shows is the new series of The Game on BET. I am so glad that they have decided to bring the show back after what seemed to be an endless season of being off the air. The show has picked up right where it has left off since the finale and I am right back into the grove of things with my apple turnovers and side of vanilla bean ice cream. They have added some new people to the show, making it more exciting than ever, but the old main cast that I have grown to love are still there. I hope that this show stays on as long as possible this time around, for I will remain a big fan of this http://www.directstartv.com premium channel. BET is one of my favorite channels and now that they have my favorite show on there too, it is a blast for me every Tuesday night. I think that as long as the shows premieres every week, it will be my ritual to watch with my snacks handy and the remote locked in. I think that I will even throw a The Game Party,ย  to get my friends involved because all we do is call each other after the show to recap. At least we can all go over the show in front of each other.

A unique gift!

My youngest sister bought a new home after living in her previous home for about four years. I wanted to get her a gift, but not something that she already had or one of those run of the mill gifts that everyone seems to give for lack of imagination. I visited her new house and saw that she had a lot of stainless steel items that were really shiny, clean looking and modern, in the house. I personally think the things would be rather hard to keep finger proofed, but she assured me that it wasn’t hard at all and even showed me this cleaning that she had, so it set my mind to working. Once home I got on the internet and let my fingers start shopping, or at least “look shopping”, and I came across some great items, including a very shiny stainless steel letter box, but nixed that idea, as I had noticed that she had a mail box in the shape of a little barn that I new she loved.

The home does have a really awesome fireplace, so I checked out the Blomus four piece stainless steel fireplace accessories. Now these, I thought were really cool looking, as I could imagine when a fire was going in the fireplace, they would sparkle and shine and well…look pretty awesome. I of course bookmarked that page to go back to later, in case I didn’t find anything else I wanted to get her. It totally amazed me how many really awesome items came in stainless steel and it was hard for me to decide exactly what I wanted to get her, that I knew she wouldn’t have or get from others.

Finally I settled on the stainless steel garden torch bowl. No one ever said I bought ordinary gifts, and I would absolutely love one of these for myself. They are a bit pricey, but my sister is worth it, and from what I have read, they are durable and also very pretty. My sister loves outdoor torches and table lights, so I am hoping that she will love this as much as I do. Maybe with my next pay check, I might splurge and get a couple for myself. I could call it a early birthday present!! ๐Ÿ™‚

A very good book.

I know most every one has heard of the movie with Julia Roberts in it, called Eat, Pray, Love. Well, I saw the movie and didn’t think it was very good. Then I got the book. To me, books are always better than the movie. I was right about this one. I literally did not want to put it down. If I were a book critic I would give it a five star rating. Do yourself a favor and read it. I can’t begin to tell you all how much I got out of it personally.

Muddy floors.

Okay, after a week of rain with no respite in sight, I’m really tired of cleaning up muddy floors. I have a big HUGH welcome mat outside the door. And on the inside in the foyer, I have a big wipe your feet rug, along with a basket of soft footie socks for people to put on if they want them. All sizes. All I ask is, take the damn shoes off at the door. I even have a nice wooden and painted sign that asks nicely to do so. Do people do this? Very few. So…I’m sort of on the verge of not answering my door anymore. Or at least until some people get the hint. Okay…rant is over. For now. ๐Ÿ˜‰

An addiction

I don’t eat sweets very often. In fact hardly ever, but my downfall is good chocolate. I love chocolate. My brother is in the service and travels all over Europe. Everywhere he goes, he will scout out really great chocolate and send it to me. It’s to die for.

I remember as a kid, the man who lived down the road was a traveling candy salesman and he would give my brothers and sister and I samples. My very most favorite chocolate was what was called, Ice Cubes. Even today, if I could find it, I would by cases just because I think by now it’s obsolete. This chocolate would melt in your mouth. Creamy, and just…awesome.

I’m constantly on the look out for great chocolate here in the States also. I keep in in case I need comfort food. Or because I lost a few pounds and feel like I can indulge and not fret about it. So bring on the chocolate. Everyone needs a good dose of it!
