Bonfire

My neighbor had a big party yesterday and invited us to stop by. It was a great turnout and they all seemed to be having a blast.

She even had a big bonfire going up on the hill. We sat around the fire on hay bales and roasted marshmallows and told funny stories. It was great fun – but too dark for my camera to get any good snapshots of the group.

70’s in November!

Wow! What a weather perfect weekend this is going to be! The forecast is for sunny days with temperatures in the 70’s and no rain for several days in the foreseeable future! This is perfect weather for doing fun things outdoors, like rock climbing, exploring the lakeshore, or even raking leaves and pruning shrubbery. This is the weather we should have had last month – it’s very unusual for November.

There is football on TV this afternoon and tomorrow, but the weather is too nice to be sitting inside watching a TV. I’m going to make the most of the nice weather and stay outside as much as I can!

AA Batteries

For some reason I can never find good AA batteries when I need them.My digital camera is the biggest battery hog and I am always having to change out the AA batteries in my camera – it is a real nuisance.

I have tried rechargeable batteries – but they have a lot of disadvantages. Every time you recharge them you get a little less life and there is no way to tell how many times you have left or how much life you have to use. It’s very frustrating to charge the batteries overnight and then get only 10-15 minutes worth of charge.

So I bought a big value pack of regular AA batteries. But evidently they go bad from sitting on the shelf and each time I put innew batteries I would get less and less use. Arrrgh! I guess I am going to have to bite the bullet and pay the extra money for lithium batteries. I hope they are worth it!

When Angels Kiss

angelkiss

I love this picture. It makes me think about these two beautiful angels and what they must have been doing right before this tender moment. I love pictures that leave you wondering about the rest of the story.

Recycled Ink Cartridges

Today I was cleaning out a couple of drawers in the office. Well, I was looking for a bottle of glue and couldn’t find it, so I had to clean out the drawer while digging through the mess looking for the glue.

In the back of the drawer was a ziploc bag with a bunch of old, empty inkjet cartridges for that broken Epson printer that I used to use. I hated that printer – you had to have 6 different color ink cartridges to get the colors to print. If you ran low on any one of the 6 colors, the printer wouldn’t work at all until you replaced the one cartridge. You couldn’t even bypass the colors and use just black.

It was a total nuisance trying to keep up with all those ink cartridges. Now I have a big bag of the empty and I guess I will find someplace to recycle them.

Dinner with Wendy

My girlfriend, Wendy was so bummed out today after sending her kids back to their dad that I invited her to dinner and some girl talk. Wendy has two kids but their dad has custody of them during the school year and they come to visit Wendy on holidays and for two months each summer. So the summer vacation is over and they had to go back.

They are great kids – they seem really well adjusted, excellent manners, very lovable. I wonder if they will stay that way or if being in the public school system will corrupt them. Wendy worries that once they are under the influence of other kids and get peer pressure that they will pick up a lot of bad habits and bad language from the other kids. I’m afraid she’s right, but that’s why parenting kids when they are school age is still so important – you have to be ever vigilant.

Good Ice Cream

A few years ago we had a new ice cream plant open up in Nolensville to service the grocery stores in this area. The ice cream was originally made in Texas, but they decided to start expanding a few years ago. I’m really glad that Blue Bell ice cream came here. This is the best ice cream you can buy.

I know a lot of people really like Ben & Jerry’s, but to be honest, those are more about the extra junk they put in the ice cream, like nuts and chocolate and cherries. The Blue Bell ice cream is more about really creamy, homemade taste in the ice cream itself. The flavors don’t overwhelm you, and I’ve tried them all and like them all. My favorite is strawberries in homemade vanilla.

Pirates and Wenches

When I was active on a certain gaming site, all of my online friends were either pirates or wenches. It was quite fun to fantasize about being a wench. To say bold and flirty things that you would never say in real life was very liberating. It was fun being saucy for a couple hours each night. I miss that, but that group of friends dispersed when the site administrator flaked out on us.

Bar Rescue

I have fallen in love with this TV show. It is great ! The people go find these bars that are about to close their doors because they have no business and usually have turned into dive bars. They then check them out and go in pretending to be customers, before they announce themselves. After that they tell the people who they are and raise cain about what they see that is wrong with the bar. Usually it is just from laziness and people not doing their jobs right. After some training and a makeover for the bar itself, they reopen with a new name and find success. I like watching the turnaround.

Dinner and a movie

So happy. Last night we went out for dinner and a movie. We ate at one of my favorite places called Joes Crab Shack. I love seafood and this place has the absolute best there is in town. I had the Samuel Adams Steampot and boy was it delicious ! We hadn’t been there in so long, I was overjoyed when we pulled in. I didn’t know where we were going until we got there. My honey is so sweet. He knew exactly what I was going to love and made sure we go it. Our movie was really good as well, and we came home to curl up on the couch for a little while before bed. Probably shouldn’t have watched the news though.
