Scrolling Typos

A lot of the TV channels have adopted the scrolling text at the bottom of the screen to make viewers aware of breaking news and alerts.

Years ago, viewers would have to endure complete interruption of their preferred show for a talking head to read the script of breaking news on camera. But now, a lot of the breaking news is just a few words scrolling across the bottom of the screen.

It must be stressful programming in just the right words to scroll across the screen. It’s like having to write headlines as a teaser to get your attention but also to add just enough vital information to give viewers a snapshot of the situation.

At its worst, the scrolling words contain a typo, which broadcasts to the entire world that someone is not smart enough to spell the name correctly or never got enough education to recognize the difference in the meaning of words, such as “sum” versus “some.”

The Beatles 50th Anniversary

Did you watch the TV special tribute to the Beatles on television tonight? I had forgotten it was going to be on, and tuned in about thirty minutes after it had started. I enjoyed the show immensely, but I was very annoyed about how often the camera showed the woman that had broken up the Beatles. I dislike her so much I won’t even write her name in my blog! I thought she acted like she was not sober, and made a spectacle of herself. I was really angry every time the camera showed her. Her presence there ruined the entire experience for me. I felt that she should not even had been in the audience at all.

Catching up on my shows

With all that has been happening here and me working so much, I miss the shows that I like to watch. I have Xfinity which runs most of my television programs I like to watch, even though I have to wait a day or two before they update them so I can watch the episodes I missed. I have a feeling it’s going to be a pretty good weekend.

Security and more

Last week I had decided that I needed a break from sitting on the computer all day, so I decided that I would sit in front of the television all night, and watch movies I had been wanting to see, but hadn’t gotten a chance to. Thanks to Direct TV, I got to watch some awesome movies that had been recommended to me also. The only problem is, I kept hearing strange noises in the back yard, and when I let my dog out, he went running around the side of the house, barking and growing. I at first thought it was just a racoons, or some night life animal, but after about four days of hearing noises and finding things disturbed in my yard, I wasn’t so sure.

I started surfing the net of course, for security systems. I hit on, home security daphne and read the ad. After that I decided to check out what some of my friends in Alabama thought and if any had used that security business, and one of my friends totally recommended it. I’m planning on doing more research, talking to system’s representatives and then make my decision.

All in all, I know I do want the security and the peace of mind. Since I live alone, except the dog and the cat of course, I actually need it. This isn’t a bad neighborhood, but then even in the best of them, crime still happens and a security system in the house is something I should have gotten a long time ago.

9/11

I’ve been watching some of the coverage that had not been shown until now, about the tragedy of 9/11. It was so sad I had to turn off the television. I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing on that date. I feel for all the family’s of the people who died. Even after ten years, it has to be so hard for them.

Junk and treasures

I had to laugh at my friend Cheryl who lives in Chicago. When she talked to me and found out I had been cleaning closets, drawers and cupboards, she decided to do the same and then recruited her husband to clean out his garage. I say recruited as a sort of loose term as she actually gave him the ultimatum to either get rid of this junk or go live with it. I know she said this lovingly but actually meant that she indeed wanted the mess cleaned out. Her husband is a hoarder. He will keep anything at all, thinking that one day it will have some kind of a use, or will come in handy. That day never comes and it drives my poor friend somewhat nuttier that she already is.

Lately for some reason I have been watching this show on television about actual hoarders. Cheryl’s husband isn’t as bad as some of those people I’ve seen on the series. Far from it, but he still has a garage full of junk and I don’t even think he wants it that cluttered and messy anymore. I told Cheryl about this show and she got the idea (after she had gave that big hint to her husband) about Appliance Removal Chicago. I guess from what she had said, he keeps appliances in the garage thinking he is going to fix them up and then sell them for a few bucks. This is actually never the case.

I’m wondering how the clean up is going to go this coming week, but at least there will be help with some of the removal of the items!

A correction to make

I posted recently about Roseanne Barr’s new show that has begun to air. It’s apparently called, Roseanne’s Nuts, not the Nut Farm, so I’ve been told. No matter…I do believe I am going to be a faithful watcher of the show. Heck, I even watched the repeat because I had tuned in after it had begun last week. So folks, sorry about the mistake if I made it. Gotta give Roseanne credit where it is due. 🙂

Roseanne is back?

Last night I saw the show Roseanne Barr Nut Farm. I have to admit that I have ALWAYS liked Roseanne, despite of all the bad publicity and her her sometimes…okay, most of the time, crude behavior, and loud mouth. I don’t normally have any inclination to ever want to meet celebrities, but if I could, she would be one of the ones I’d love to kick back with and talk to. I enjoyed the show and also seeing her back on television, sans the make up and the scripts. It’s good to see her back.

BET’s Game is back!

Guest written by our friend, Mario Reed.

There are so many shows that I watch on television, but I have to say that one of my most favorite shows is the new series of The Game on BET. I am so glad that they have decided to bring the show back after what seemed to be an endless season of being off the air. The show has picked up right where it has left off since the finale and I am right back into the grove of things with my apple turnovers and side of vanilla bean ice cream. They have added some new people to the show, making it more exciting than ever, but the old main cast that I have grown to love are still there. I hope that this show stays on as long as possible this time around, for I will remain a big fan of this http://www.directstartv.com premium channel. BET is one of my favorite channels and now that they have my favorite show on there too, it is a blast for me every Tuesday night. I think that as long as the shows premieres every week, it will be my ritual to watch with my snacks handy and the remote locked in. I think that I will even throw a The Game Party,  to get my friends involved because all we do is call each other after the show to recap. At least we can all go over the show in front of each other.
