Merry Christmas To ALL My Friends and Family

A good friend of mine sent me this card. When I got it I was pleased that she felt comfortable enough with me to send me a card like this instead of a traditional Christmas card. I find it very interesting that the history of Christians celebrating Christmas in December was largely planned around the pagan winter celebrations. I wonder, as time goes on, if our society will become more, or less, tolerant of different spiritual and religious beliefs. The way I’ve seen some things going on lately, it seems that we are becoming less tolerant, which makes me sad, since the country was supposedly founded on a belief in religious freedoms.

Whatever YOUR religious, or spiritual beliefs are, I hope that you have a wonderful time this winter holiday season!

On the road again

My sister and I are off to our concert. We still have two hours of driving, but by our calculations we will get there early and might not get too jostled by the crowd. Both of us have bad backs and necks, so that would not be good for us.

I’m glad it stays lighter now, because the drive so far has been great. Lots of interesting things we are passing and we both want to come back to this area. It’s really pretty even without leaves on the trees. It also helps that my sister has a really comfortable, nice car!

Nearly Here

My nephew called me this morning bright and early and informed me that Santa was nearly ready to pack up his sleigh. He sounded so excited. Of course I asked him how he knew this and since he has one heck of a cool imagination, he said he had all the dates and times figured out, at how long it would take him to get all over the world and his destination times, departures, and “rest stops” for the trip. Gotta love the kid. He indeed is going to do something really special with travel when he gets older!

Bell ringers already

This is getting a bit far fetched. I went shopping today and at every store entrance and exit there were the bell ringers for Good Will or Salvation Army dressed up like flipping Santa, or standing outside the store freezing their butts off. I hate not giving, but this is too much. I give some at CHRISTMAS. Yet it isn’t even Thanksgiving yet. I can’t afford to shell out money like that. And also I’ve noticed that these people get really pissed off if they don’t get a donation.

Wedding plans

My friend I mentioned earlier who’s boyfriend was going to surprise her with a marriage proposal and give her the beautiful ring came over together a little while ago. I’ve never seem them so happy in all the years I’ve known them. Now Barb and I will be making wedding plans. I’m thrilled for them!

Apple festival

Every year a local orchard has a really great apple festival. I’ve made plans to take my nephews to it with me. The weather has been totally beautiful, and it’s supposed to be for the next week, especially the weekend… high of 80 degrees, but breezy. It won’t be to warm for the kids to be tromping through the orchards, going on hay rides and their favorite…eating caramel apples, drinking cider and having a blast with the activities that they participate in every year there. I’m really looking forward to going to this so much that I’ve taken off work. Oh, it’s cool with my boss, she is going also. This is a great event around here for both kids and adults.
