Camera Shopping

My cousin posted on Facebook that she wants to buy a new pocket camera. She asked an open question about which brands are best, which models she would want, and the biggest challenge, she wants to keep the purchase price below $200.

I told her that I love my camera. It’s a Sony and it takes great photos with almost everything automatic. The battery lasts a long time, the memory stick holds a ton of photos, the zoom is 7x, and it has a huge display screen.

But she bought a cheap Canon. I guess you just can’t help some people.

Too Much for Chips

Just noticed the price of a bag of potato chips while I was shopping today. At the Kroger a bag of Lays chips is $4.99. Not even gourmet chips – just regular chips in the bag.

I’m astonished. This bag is nothing more than one potato that has been sliced very thin, tossed in hot oil for a couple of minutes, salted and then tossed into an oversized thin foil bag. When you think about it, the bag is 80% air. So what on earth can justify charging almost five bucks for one bag of chips that will last an average family just one day? This amount of money for this little bit of snack food is crazy!

Grazing at Sams Club

I only go shopping at Sams Club about once every two months. I just don’t need or want mega sized quantities of most household goods and foods. But sometimes the savings is big enough to make it worth going and buying 10 times more than what I would get at the local Kroger.

Today I went to Sam’s on my lunch break. I was surprised to find a lot of people giving away free samples of food at the end of every aisle. I ended up dining on large slices of pizza, chicken nuggets, ham and cheese on croissant, and meatballs. I was going to do a drive-thru to pick up my lunch on the way back to work, but I had so much free sample food that I wasn’t hungry.

Not Yo Mama’s Strollers

Folks, having a baby is expensive. We all know that. Not just the birthing part – but the cost of all the gear and clothing and supplies you need adds up really fast. Plus, the little rascals outgrow all those clothes really fast.

I wanted to buy a stroller for my friend, Jenny’s, baby shower next month. I thought that I might find something nice for about $40 or $50. So I started shopping on Ebay to see if there were any good deals or if shipping would make that impractical. Holy smokes! The strollers on Ebay are running $250 – $400 dollars!!!

For those of us not plugged into the baby scene, the idea of buying a stroller to push your kid around the park or mall has become buying a “Travel System.” These systems have car seats, permanent anchor bases for the car and convertible stroller frames with deep recessed cup holders, a cargo basket, removable washable covers and pads, front wheel shocks and all kinds of engineered mechanics for easy collapsing and assembly.

I’m suffering from sticker shock and making sure to refill my birth control pills for another 3- 5 year supply.

I love buying wholesale

Whenever I get the chance to buy something at a wholesale price, I jump at it. Assuming, of course, that I actually NEED the product! I am a member of two wholesale clubs – Costco, and BJ’s. I love shopping there – I get a lot of good quality items at a low price, if I play my cards right. You have to be careful, though, and really know your prices if you want to save money! My old printer has started to act a little funny lately, and I’ve started to shop around for wholesale printers, to see what I might want to get as a replacement when this old one gasps its last breath. I don’t want to be rushing it to the junk-yard, mind you, I hope it runs for many years to come. But, a gal’s gotta be prepared, you know what I mean?

I don’t need the attitude

When the Internet first came into our house, I never thought for a moment that I’d be using it to find bits and pieces of tooling supplies, mechanical parts, and hardware. But after a few trips to the local hardware store lately, where I got a lot of bad attitude from a rude cashier, I decided to go online and see if I could find what I needed without being subjected to a lot of aggravation. I found several sites that really had just about everything I needed, and their online catalogs were organized in such a way that really helped out a lot when I was trying to find specific pieces.

People complain about business being bad in town, and complain about how they are losing business to the Internet, and big box stores. Well, I’d like to suggest that they took a good, long, look at their employees and have a reality check when it comes to customer service. That is going to make or break the businesses, that is for sure!

Back to work

Well I am back to work and the kids are back in school after a well deserved holiday. We went to my sisters for dinner on Thanksgiving day and really enjoyed spending time with the family. Now I have to start really working on my Christmas shopping list. I don’t have much time left, plus this weekend we will put up the Christmas decorations and tree. I am going to be so busy over the next month, it is already making me tired just thinking about it. I love the holiday’s, but I can’t wait till they are over.

Movie matinee

I think I am going to take in a matinee this afternoon. I want to see Resident Evil:Retribution. I am going by myself, as most of my friends don’t really like movies like that. I don’t mind though, I enjoy going to the movies alone. Afterwards I can walk around the mall and do a little shopping without having anyone rush me. I really hate to be rushed.

Celtic style jewelry

I have always loved Celtic jewelry. I love anything Celtic, actually. I think I was born a Celt in a previous life. Yes, I believe in reincarnation and subjects such as this. To me it’s very real and also many times proven. I am a big collector of anything that deals with the original Celtic era and also artifacts of such.

A friend of mine gave me a beautiful ring last year and I wanted to add to my collection of celtic jewelry. She suggested I go online and look for places that would deal with lines of what I was looking for. I hit the jackpot just by typing in certain words.

The Celtic jewelry site I found is awesome. They carry everything! Wedding rings, broaches, necklaces, bracelets and Claddagh rings,  (something I have been looking for) that is of very high quality. These are just a few of the items they have that one can buy. It’s the perfect site to find exactly what you are looking for if you are into the Celtic ways. I even found a perfect 17th Century Claddagh ring that I have wanted for sometime and it looks totally original. I’m going to treat myself to it. Heck, why not? My birthday is coming up soon and it will be my birthday present to myself. I’d be so proud to wear it also!

New tile for the master bath

Getting home improvement things are my passion. Or at least have become a passion. I’m getting new tile for the master bathroom, and I’m actually really excited to lay it. My friends think I’m sort of nuts, but at least they still love me.

Since I can work at home, it gives me time to also do the remodeling I want to do to my house. I love it! So the tile is to be delivered tomorrow, and I figure I’ll have it laid down by Monday at the latest. After the tile, I’ve been looking at mirrors. Lots of them. Not because I’m vain. I hardly even look in one unless I’m trying to braid my hair or put on my make up, which doesn’t take long since I don’t usually wear a lot.  I just think they will make the room look bigger.

I found some nice fluffy area rugs to put in the bathroom also. I love the feel of them on bare feet. I tried them out on my niece when I got them. She of course, adored them! I have a feeling she isn’t going to be using the guest bathroom, but that’s cool by me! She is the one that is going to help me lay the tile!!
