Can’t Sleep

Usually I am fast asleep by the time Craig Ferguson comes on the air, or at the latest I’m asleep right after his monologue. I love the Craig Ferguson show, but it comes on so late, that I just cannot stay awake long enough to watch the whole show. But tonight I am wide awake – and Craig Ferguson is not on over the weekends. Darn the luck!

Stop the Stupid

It seems like all weekend long I have been dealing with stupid people. There was a lady who stopped at the entrance to McD’s and just sat there, blocking the entrance for like 4 minutes, and then acted like she woke up and drove away.

There were dozens more. Was it a full moon? Or what?

Damn My Phone

Like I advised everyone yesterday, I set all my clocks ahead an hour for Daylight Savings Time. But today I see that my cell phone has not changed. Why doesn’t AT&T handle this change in a timely manner – no pun intended!?!? I know that when I travel back to DC the cell phone changes to Eastern Time automatically as soon as I get near Knoxville. So why can’t AT&T set my phone one hour ahead?

In Like a Lamb

The first few days of March have been gloriously warm and sunny. The day time temperatures have been in the 50’s and by the weekend they will be in the 60’s. I would love to see it hit 70 degrees! That’s Spring!

I wonder if the old wive’s tale of March coming in like a lamb means that it will go out like a lion? I sure hope not. We had such a nasty winter, everyone is sick of the cold and the wet and the wind. We are ready for Spring and Summer!

Drug Company Commercials

It seems like we are being slammed with commercials by drug companies, especially for Lupitor and Chantix. The style of commercial is a testimonial by a typical user talking about how much their lives have been improved since using the product. The companies are using non-Hollywood types to do the testimonials and are even putting a small disclaimer on the screen that these people talking “are not actors.” Right. They might not be members of the actors guild, but I am sure they are reading a script and getting paid for their appearance in the ad. In my book, that makes them actors.

Shout Out to Lindsey

One of my girlfriends has a blog and although she is very busy with her job and posts a lot of status updates on Facebook, she doesn’t always keep her blog updated. So I thought I would shout out to Lindsay and maybe shame her into breaking away from Facebook a little and write some good stuff on her blog! How about it, Lindsay? Hehehe.

Winter Olympics

My favorite winter sport is ice hockey, although I am not much of an ice skater myself. As I have so much trouble just skating around an indoor ice rink on my own, I have a deep admiration fro the men who play professional ice hockey and not only do they skate like mad men across the ice, they also chase and whack a small black puck, shooting it with a deadly accuracy into a 6 foot wide net guarded by a large, well padded man wielding a big stick.

I was able to watch some of the Olympics hockey over the weekend, as well as some of the luge events, the downhill skiing and even curling. I’m not interested at all in the figure skating, but a lot of the other winter sports are interesting to watch the competitors and to listen to the announcers as they make comments and describe the unfolding events.

Happy Birthday Reen!

My grandmother is celebrating her birthday today. I have so many great memories of summers spent with my grandmother. I always thought it was unfair that her birthday was in February, because I never get to see her in February and share the birthday celebration with her.

Nana Reen has a wonderful cabin on the River in Virginia. It is small enough that she can handle it on her own, as far as cleaning and routine maintenance. But it is large enough that a family can come for a weekend visit have be able to have use of two guest rooms with real beds. No sleeping on the couch or on the floor just for the sake of staying overnight with a relative.

Love you, Nana Reen – hope you have a fabulous day on your birthday and that we spring comes early so I can see you again real soon!

NCIS Marathon

Today is a holiday, too. President’s Day. Schools are closed, stores are having winter sales, my office is closed – so are the post office, the banks and all government offices.

But it’s snowing and I don’t want to take a chance on wrecking my car on the slick roads. So I’m staying home and cleaning house, playing a few spades games online, and watching the NCIS marathon on the USA cable channel. It’s a good day!

Congrats to the Saints!

The Saints won their very first Superbowl ever! It was a great game – close score and well played by all. Just one or two problems with a controversial call and a player who was penalized for unsportsmanlike behavior. I think he was just carried away with the moment, but that’s no excuse for spearing a guy who is down on the ground.

We were invited to a party but decided to stay home and watch it. I’m not feeling well and wanted to be able to go lie down if I started feeling badly. Can’t do that at someone else’s house. But I stayed up through the game and really enjoyed seeing the Saints win.
