Meeting up with Vicki

One of my girlfriends from back in college is meeting me for lunch today. I can’t wait to see Vicki again. It’s been too long!

She lives in Alabama but has to be in Nashville for a business convention this week. Today is the only day she can blow off some of the meetings during the convention to get together. So I’m heading downtown to have lunch at the Hard Rock with her. Gonna be a lot of fun downtown today!

Thanks, Hollie

Out of the Blue, an old friend, Hollie, called me up and said, “Hey.” It was really cool to hear from her. We have drifted so far apart over the last few years, but we used to be very close friends in school.

Love you, Hollie, and can’t wait to see you again over the holidays so we can catch up!

Fresh Fish

The price of meat has gotten so high that I have decided to cut back on the size of the meat portions and the frequency of having meat for dinner. I would love to add more fish and seafood to my dinners. If you have any tips on buying and preparing fresh fish, I would love to read them.

Dicks Last Resort

I was excited to hear from my girlfriend in Maryland that Dicks Last Resort has opened a place in Baltimore. I am sure it is in the Inner Harbor area – that’s where all the action is in Baltimore.

This is a fun place to go have some beers and hoot and holler. I can’t wait to go check out their newest location and have some fun.

Pet Friendly

There was an AP article that I read online saying that more apartments are condos are becoming pet friendly. It talked about some of the amenities that these forward thinking properties are offering to pet owners, including off leash dog play areas, cleanup stations, and even pet bath areas.

I believe it is not a change in thinking by management to become more pet friendly. I believe it is motivated strictly by money. If these property owners are having trouble attracting and keeping quality tenants in buildings that have been restricted against pets and their owners, then by allowing pets they are opening the field of potential tenants. After all, current statistics say that over 60% of American households have one or more pets.

CMA Week

This week is big time for Nashville. CMA week brings in a ton of country music artists for concerts and fan club meetings. There are free shows and activities downtown during the day, and then each night there is a big concert at the Titans stadium with all the major acts. I would love to see Carrie Underwood perform live – that is my goal this week.

Tar on the Beaches

The oil spill keeps dragging on with no fix in sight. This is baffling to me. Why are these people so cavalier about the amount of oil gushing into the Gulf of Mexico? I believe they are trying to find a way to collect the oil and still sell what they can get from this oil well instead of trying to find a way to stop the oil from polluting the water, shoreline, beaches and wetlands.

Ernest Tubb on the Radio

Q. What radio show did Ernest Tubb begin broadcasting from his Nashville record store in 1947?

A. The Midnight Jamboree – now the second longest running radio show in America (second only to the Brand Old Opry.)

Live MMA

This weekend will be a big first for Nashville. We are hosting a Mixed Martial Arts competition and it will be broadcast live on CBS. There has been a lot of hoopla downtown with the fighters here. They are having press conferences and public appearances at all the downtown clubs. I’m not a big fan of any kind of fighting, so I’m not planning on going to the fights. There are a lot of guys from the office who have tickets and are going to make a big night of it. Oh well, I’ve got plenty of other things to keep my attention.

Don’t Call it a Sandwich

There’s a new menu item at Taco Bell – the tortada. I wonder if the real Mexicans have ever heard of a tortada? I have been told that the real Mexicans get a big laugh at Taco Bell representing themselves as serving Mexican food. The new commercials make the tortada look like a sandwich made on one of the press machines that seal the edges around a filling. If they are not too expensive I’d like to give them a try.
