I Guess They Don’t “Get It”

Last night while fixing a late dinner – very late for me -I had the TV on to keep me company in the kitchen. The show was a news talk format with a local anchor interviewing two guests. I like the anchor – he does a good job, although he was not very familiar with the topic at hand: Domestic Violence.

The two guests were cops who work for Metro and do a lot of domestic work. I was interested but very dismayed to hear them talk. They really don’t get it. Seriously.

R I P Elizabeth Taylor

If there was one Hollywood actress whom my mother idolized, it was Elizabeth Taylor. She was the most beautiful and glamorous women on the big screen.

I was sad to read that Elizabeth Taylor passed away today from heart failure. At least she had the best medical care throughout her life and with all of her different conditions. And she had her family at her side – most close friends did have a chance to say goodbye.

I don’t know where the funeral will be held, but if I lived anywhere near her final resting place, I would make the effort to go to her funeral. She was an icon and will be missed.

Secure Shopping

This is a real sign that someone posted in their store. I feel really badly that someone thought it was a good idea to put it up. What does this say to the shoppers who just want to come in and safely shop with their family?

Terrible News from Japan

This morning I heard a news report about a big earthquake in Japan. The earthquake was one of a series of quakes that have been going on all day. I think the USGS said that there were over 200 earthquakes there, and the biggest was over 8 on the magnitude scale. They are saying that this quake was one of the top 5 worst ever.

Then they had a tsunami, which wiped out entire towns and swept inland over 4 miles. I am stunned at all the damage and the certain loss of life.

My heart goes out to the people of Japan and hope that we can help them get through these twin disasters.

I’ve Been Baking

This winter has been so brutal and Spring still seems to be a couple weeks away, so I am getting into the mood for fresh baked breads and cakes. I have had cravings for fresh bread for several days, so I dug out the bread machine, bought some yeast, and have been making bread every morning this week. Yum!

Hope for Peace in Egypt

There have been rallies and riots in Egypt’s major cities, with several deaths and many injuries. From what I can deduce, there are thousands, or perhaps tens of thousands, of mostly young men demonstrating for the removal of Egypt’s president and the establishment of a new democracy. They are blaming all of their country’s economic problems on the president and his closely held elite group who have been running the country.

I truly hope that the riots subside and that the citizens of Egypt see good changes come about when this president either steps down or is defeated in the next election, and that no one else gets hurt in the process.

Donating Long Hair for Wigs

My sister has donated her long hair to an organization called Locks of Love. From what I could find online, this organization uses the donated hair to make wigs for children who have cancer and are losing their natural hair because of the chemo treatments that they must undergo.

There is also a program sponsored by the hair products company, Pantene, called Pantene Beautiful Lengths. Their program uses the donated hair to help women who are fighting cancer.

I think both organizations are worth checking out they have good web sites with information on how long the hair must be, where to send it, etc.

Jimmy Fallon is FUNNY!

I knew who Jimmy Fallon is because I used to watch him on Saturday Night Live. Then he ended up getting a late night show – it comes on at 2:00 am – the latest late show on the schedule.

Every once in a while I can stay up extra late and not worry about having to get up at 5:00 am to go to work. Those are the only times I can watch the Jimmy Fallon Show. But I really enjoy his show when I do have the opportunity. He makes me laugh out loud, and I love the variety of guests that he has on the show to talk and play games with him.

My Snow Woman

We had enough snow that I could roll up a few big snowballs and make this snow woman. I couldn’t figure out what to use for arms, so I decided to grab some things from the kitchen. She’s my Aunt Jemima snow woman.
