Touch of Homesick

My niece is a bit of a drama queen and frequently complains about feeling homesick when the family goes out of town to visit relatives or friends.

I have been away from the DC area (where I grew up) for several years now, and I have to admit that every once in a great while I feel a touch of homesickness. But I know in my heart that I do not live there anymore and there’s no “going home.” In fact, the house where I grew up was sold to another family within months of my high school graduation and the new people remodeled it. So that’s a closed chapter of my life.

Now it’s on to greater adventures, here in Nashville and beyond!

Having the Talk

There has never been a good outcome for me when someone (whether friend, family, co-worker, or boss) has told me, “We need to talk.” When I hear that I want to run right home, crawl into bed and pull the covers up over my head!

My mother had a unique way of bringing up a problem. She would say, “I have a bone to pick with you.”

Critters Today

What a day!

This morning as I went to get in the car and go to work, I stepped off my porch step and over (thank GOD!) a snake. It was about two feet long and was just laying across the bottom step. I thought it was a stick at first, but then it moved. I about had a heart attack! It was a black snake, so it was not a venomous type of snake, but it still startled me!

Then I came home at lunch and found a big brown rabbit in my front yard. He hopped away as I got out of the car. I wonder if he will come back after I leave? I wonder if the snake has high hopes of catching that rabbit and feasting on that big bunny?

Finding room for our wine in our home

Guest post written by Annie Kemp

Now that we’re empty nesters it seems that just about the only thing that we don’t have room for in our home is the wine that we’ve started collecting as a hobby. We have all of this empty room in everywhere else but the house. But we want to be able to use our home as we see fit now and are renovating several parts of the house as we see fit.

When I was looking around for some info on how to make a wine cellar, just out of curiosity, I saw some info onĀ sears vinyl sidingĀ and realized that our home could also use that upgrade.

I’ve explored lots of different options and I think that we’re going to maybe bump out our kitchen and get a wine storage shelf built into the room. I think that it will be such a nice looking addition to the room. I guess that I’ll also have to buy some more wine to fill up all of that storage space.
