Slow computer

Looks like I might have to get a new laptop soon. I bought this one for a bargain price of $300 in a Christmas sale so I’ve gotten my money out of it. The one I have now is so slow that I’ve nearly given up on taking it anywhere when I have to write and I’m away from home. It’s senseless. I have to wait for quite a while for things to load.

I’m going to have it gone through first by a pro and see what they say, because it isn’t that old and it’s got plenty of space on it. Still…I’m not happy with it at all. More money going out no doubt. 🙁

Crowd control at the concert

When my sister and I got to the concert we were attending, we had been worried about crowd control, considering both of us are very small people and we also both have back and neck issues. We were concerned about being jostled about like some people are at big concerts while waiting in line for the doors to open. My sister was just recovering from surgery also, so that was something we had to consider.

I was surprised when we were parking, that there were barricades in the parking lots, so that non paying concert people could not use the parking lots for reasons other than this particular concert in the building it was being held in. This was a great help and made parking close for us a lot easier, since we had gotten there early enough, but didn’t know the area well and thought we would have a hard time with parking.

The stanchions leading up to the doors of the building and then also actually showing the way to the right concert hall really  helped keep the crowd from pushing ahead of others, or shoving pushing and the other rough action, sometimes associated with going to concerts. All in all, I was totally impressed with the way the whole concert was organized. Not to mention the concert in it’s self.

Had to rent a car

I got side swiped yesterday while on my way to an opening of my friend’s new business. I was upset at first, but then the person who hit me, was so nice and also upset, that I realized she really didn’t mean to do it, of course. She told me she had a blind spot, which because of her old vehicle and the fact that the weather was really nasty, it’s understandable.

We exchanged information and bless her heart, she even offered to take me to where I was going and wait then take me home. She was an older woman and I could tell she really didn’t have the money for gas or to lose work, so I just drove…more like limped…my car to my car service business and the guy there took me to rent a car.

It was no big deal to me, because I experienced human kindness and actual caring from this woman. It’s rare these days. My service man told me my car will be ready in only two days. I can live with that. I wish there were more people like the woman who accidentally hit me, in this world.

New tile for the guest bathroom

My youngest sister has come to stay with me for a few days so we can get started on another project for more home improvement here at my house. I have been planning on putting new tile in my spare or guest bathroom for a year now, and the time has come.

I need something durable, since when my nephews are here, they use that bathroom, and I have to say that even though they are great kids…well…they are boys. They really don’t pay much attention to decor and tidiness.

My sister and I have gone to home renovation stores and on line to learn as much as we can about laying down tile, and installing new lights, towel bars, and also a vanity. This should be rather interesting to see how it is going to turn out If it doesn’t work out like we want it to, at least we can say we tried, while calling a professional.

The long weekend

With the long weekend upon us and kids not having school Monday, on account of it being Martin Luther Kings day, my nephews keep calling me to beg me to stay over.

Just when I am finally getting so many projects finished around here and my house is so neat and tidy looking. What is an Aunt to do?

I’ve told them they could come and stay on one condition, that actually my Mom used to do, and that is to make a job jar. The boys totally agreed. I cut strips of paper and on each one, wrote a small chore for them to do for me. Easy stuff, that I really have finished already, but at least it will make them feel included in my projects, instead of me having to entertain them, since I’m pretty busy with the house and spare rooms still.

Cleaning and organizing

Taking this weekend to clean out closest and organize cupboards is turning out to be a bigger task than I had anticipated. I think I’m going to have to go to the stores and find a way to keep things neater and more organized.

Saving more space is my goal. I’ve seen a lot of space saving ideas online, so I might do what I call, “finger shopping” if I can’t find what I’m looking for at the stores.

After the closets and cupboards, come some home improvements that need to have been done quite some time ago. I’m pretty handy with things like that, thanks to my Grandpa and Father teaching me, so I’ll start that once I get organized.

Car shipping and transporting

At Thanksgiving my oldest nephew who lives across country, told us that he was moving back to our state, and was looking into auto shipping for his “Baby” which is a 1955 Corvette. He told us that since he doesn’t trust anyone to drive it, and he has his every day car to bring home also, that he was considering having the Corvette shipped to his new home here in our state. I thought that it was a bit much, why not just put it on a trailer and haul it, right? Well, apparently what he is looking into is safer, actually less expensive than a trailer and all of the details that go with it, and he could trust that his car would get to him safely.

He even said that the company he was considering had car reviews for anyone who might want to buy a car or truck from out of state, or just about anywhere for that matter, and have it shipped to them. I guess sometimes a person can find exactly what they are looking for in the reviews that are less expensive than shopping for a vehicle here, and then it can be shipped to them. This is something I didn’t know.

I’m really happy about my nephew moving close to home, and it sounds like he’s done his so called homework on how to get his precious car home to him, without having another detail to fret about. Who knows? If I sweet talk him a lot, and bribe him once his “Baby” gets here…he might let me take her for a spin!

Cleaning greasy messes

It is time to clean out the grill and put it up for the winter and I found that I had to go on a hunt for perfect degreasers. I also realized that I am a really sloppy grill cooker, even though I don’t mean to be. I use tin foil most of the time for my vegetables and some other things, like stuffed tomatoes with tuna, which is easy to just to wrap in tinfoil and slap on the grill.

Actually in the summer, I grill more that I cook in my kitchen. I like being outside. I also love my patio and the fact that in the summer, I don’t have to stand in a hot kitchen. But like I said, I am a messy grill cook. I noticed that grease had splattered from off the grill or my grilling utensils, onto my patio stone and that regular degreasers were not got to get it all off.

A friend of mine suggested that I use industrial strength degreasers on the stone patio “floor” as I call it. I was kind of leery at first, but when I did indeed use it, and was careful following the instructions, it worked like a charm. I’m even thinking about keeping my grill covered but also available on the patio if I want to grill in the winter!

Mens divorce lawyers

I never knew there were divorce and custody lawyers that specialized in legal help for men, but then I heard about Cordell & Cordell Reviews from a guy friend of mine who was looking online for divorce lawyers. Like I said, I personally had never heard of such a service, so indeed I did browse through the site. Sure enough the service is there,  and they do everything from divorce and child custody, to spousal support and property division for men.

While looking through the site, I read the Cordell & Cordell reviews that clients had written and I was surprised the these are not just men who work on the men in need of a lawyer cases. There are women lawyers also who have represented the men. The reviews were quite remarkable, actually.

I do however personally have mixed feelings about divorce and feel that some men, and this is just from personal experience with some of my women friends, will go to great lengths to put the screws so to speak to their soon to be ex wives. However, isn’t that sometimes also true with what some women do to men during a divorce or custody and support battle? So at least in my friends case, since I know the whole situation and how his wife is, I think that a firm like Cordell & Cordell would be perfect for him.

Bad eyesight

I found out after going to the optometrist today that basically I’m getting old. Okay, she didn’t say that exactly, but did say that with age one’s eyes tend to get worse. Of course I know mine have, and she said it to be informative, but it sort of hit me like a ton of bricks. (deep sigh) So, I am now waiting for my new bifocals to arrive. Oh well, at least I’ll be able to see a lot better than I have been. Eye strain has also been giving me headaches, so hopefully these new glasses will help.
