Christmas Blessings

This past week has been crazy busy. I had to finish up shopping, get my tree up and decorated, and bake 20 dozen Christmas cookies to give to my close friends. We have a small group of friends and family who like to exchange cookies each year, and everyone loves my little gingerbread men and women. So I have an entire afternoon dedicated to baking gingerbread men and women today.

I guess it’s too late to send out Christmas cards. I’m sorry I blew it, but I do hope that everyone has a wonderful Christmas.

Winter Break

School will be out soon for the Christmas holidays. The politically correct way of saying it does not include the word Christmas. But I think that is pretty hypocritical. If Christmas suddenly disappeared off the calendars, do you really think that everyone would be gathering at their families homes for a big dinner and taking 2 weeks off from school? No way. With the holidays falling on Wednesday this year, the kids make out like bandits – they get a full two weeks off from school. That’s a nice long break – especially if you want to go on vacation or travel to see relatives.

Snickers bars and Pop Tarts

When the weather starts getting bad and there’s a chance I’ll have trouble on the road, I like to pack a small emergency pack to keep in the car. I put a blanket, several bottles of water, and a few packs of crackers, trail mix, snickers bars, and pop tarts. Even my dog likes the pop tarts – they are frosted strawberry and make a great portable snack.

Tinkerbell

One of my favorite cartoon classic characters has alway been Tinkerbell. I was captivated with the idea fairies as a young girl. The Peter Pan movie brought Tinkerbell to life for thousands of children. I really like the way Disney is bringing back fairies in a series of books and dolls. I think every girl should experience the fantasy of a little fairy and their fairy dust magic.

A Turkey in Every Pot

The latest craze for Holiday meals is deep fried turkeys. This HAD to have been invented in the South. They fry any and every thing in the South – and it usually tastes damn good, too.

The problem with deep frying turkeys is that you have to use a lot of very hot oil in a big pot that can tip over or spill over very easily. This usually causes someone’s house to burn down because these dumb rednecks don’t understand that hot oil spilled on a wood deck equals big fire. So if you are cooking a turkey in a big tub of hot oil, please use your brain and put it on a surface that cannot catch fire. And cook it outside, far away from your house!

Brrrrr

Wow – we got a blast of artic air down here! It’s freakin cold!

Usually I only have to wear a coat in January and February. I wonder if this is just going to be an anomaly of a winter for us and be colder and longer than normal?

It was so cold this morning getting into the car that I was at the interstate before the heater started blowing warm air in the car. I was having to hold my hand in front of my face and blow on it to get it warm enough to grip the icy cold steering wheel and then switch hands and blow on the other one. I’m not liking this cold weather AT ALL.

My Dentist Appt

This morning I am not going into the office. I have a dentist appointment at 10:30. So it doesn’t make sense to sit in rush hour traffic and drive all the way into work, just to have to turn around an leave again in an hour.

I slept in, watched the news, and got online for a little while. Now I have to grab a shower and brush my teeth and get downtown. Let’s hope I get a good report from the dentist today. I don’t want any trouble with my teeth.

Bonfire

My neighbor had a big party yesterday and invited us to stop by. It was a great turnout and they all seemed to be having a blast.

She even had a big bonfire going up on the hill. We sat around the fire on hay bales and roasted marshmallows and told funny stories. It was great fun – but too dark for my camera to get any good snapshots of the group.

70’s in November!

Wow! What a weather perfect weekend this is going to be! The forecast is for sunny days with temperatures in the 70’s and no rain for several days in the foreseeable future! This is perfect weather for doing fun things outdoors, like rock climbing, exploring the lakeshore, or even raking leaves and pruning shrubbery. This is the weather we should have had last month – it’s very unusual for November.

There is football on TV this afternoon and tomorrow, but the weather is too nice to be sitting inside watching a TV. I’m going to make the most of the nice weather and stay outside as much as I can!

Peeling Bananas

This funny video was on the front page of Yahoo today. It’s timing is really good – I just brought home 30 bananas. A friend had a huge box of fresh bananas that he was giving away for free and I took them. I have no idea what I’m going to DO with 30 bananas, but he was going to throw them away. So . . . at least I know how to peel them now. LOL
