Shout Out to Lindsey

One of my girlfriends has a blog and although she is very busy with her job and posts a lot of status updates on Facebook, she doesn’t always keep her blog updated. So I thought I would shout out to Lindsay and maybe shame her into breaking away from Facebook a little and write some good stuff on her blog! How about it, Lindsay? Hehehe.

Winter Olympics

My favorite winter sport is ice hockey, although I am not much of an ice skater myself. As I have so much trouble just skating around an indoor ice rink on my own, I have a deep admiration fro the men who play professional ice hockey and not only do they skate like mad men across the ice, they also chase and whack a small black puck, shooting it with a deadly accuracy into a 6 foot wide net guarded by a large, well padded man wielding a big stick.

I was able to watch some of the Olympics hockey over the weekend, as well as some of the luge events, the downhill skiing and even curling. I’m not interested at all in the figure skating, but a lot of the other winter sports are interesting to watch the competitors and to listen to the announcers as they make comments and describe the unfolding events.

Happy Birthday Reen!

My grandmother is celebrating her birthday today. I have so many great memories of summers spent with my grandmother. I always thought it was unfair that her birthday was in February, because I never get to see her in February and share the birthday celebration with her.

Nana Reen has a wonderful cabin on the River in Virginia. It is small enough that she can handle it on her own, as far as cleaning and routine maintenance. But it is large enough that a family can come for a weekend visit have be able to have use of two guest rooms with real beds. No sleeping on the couch or on the floor just for the sake of staying overnight with a relative.

Love you, Nana Reen – hope you have a fabulous day on your birthday and that we spring comes early so I can see you again real soon!

NCIS Marathon

Today is a holiday, too. President’s Day. Schools are closed, stores are having winter sales, my office is closed – so are the post office, the banks and all government offices.

But it’s snowing and I don’t want to take a chance on wrecking my car on the slick roads. So I’m staying home and cleaning house, playing a few spades games online, and watching the NCIS marathon on the USA cable channel. It’s a good day!

Congrats to the Saints!

The Saints won their very first Superbowl ever! It was a great game – close score and well played by all. Just one or two problems with a controversial call and a player who was penalized for unsportsmanlike behavior. I think he was just carried away with the moment, but that’s no excuse for spearing a guy who is down on the ground.

We were invited to a party but decided to stay home and watch it. I’m not feeling well and wanted to be able to go lie down if I started feeling badly. Can’t do that at someone else’s house. But I stayed up through the game and really enjoyed seeing the Saints win.

Happy Birthday Elvis Presley

If Elvis had not died, today would have been his 75th birthday. It makes me sad to think that he missed so much by overdosing on the drugs. I wish he had gotten the rehab and correct medical help that he needed in his last years of life while he suffered so badly from addiction and depression. It was such a waste of talent for him to die young.

Happy Birthday, Elvis.

Happy New Year!

I’m looking forward to 2010. I hear you are supposed to call the year “twenty ten” rather than “two thousand ten.” I’m down with that!

Here’s hoping 2010 is good to all of us!

New Years Eve

Tonight is going to be a quiet celebration at home for New Year’s. I have been invited to a couple of parties, but to be honest, I don’t fell up for a lot of socializing and partying. I think I would like to be at home in the peace and quiet, and maybe relax with a good movie and some internet surfing or games. I have great hopes for the New Year. I just don’t want to start my year in a crowded room with a lot of drunk people.

Guitar Legend – Steve Cropper

There are a dozen guitar legends in the rock and roll arena, but this is one of the first that I found and I’ll always love his music. He only plays a few charity events and special shows anymore, but I would love to see him on stage. Everyone playing with him looks like they are having a blast.

Another Update

Wow – I have to upgrade my WordPress again. This is awful. I can’t do it myself, I have to pay my system administrator to take the time to back up my blog and then install the update. I didn’t realize that there would be so many updates in a year. I thought it would be a once a year type of thing. But this is the fifth one this year. That’s putting me out of pocket over $100 for a supposedly free program.
