Luxury on your wrist

I was aghast when Shan was showing me some photos of these TAG Heuer watches that she found online. She was telling me that her husband had told her that his boss gave his wife one of the ladies watches from the website, and she was showing me the selection. I thought that the watches were nice looking, but I just cannot imagine having enough disposable income to put a luxury watch like that on my wrist! Just my luck I’d lose the watch a few days after getting it! Too rich for my blood, that’s for sure! But, I sure wish that I had enough disposable income to buy something like that! Must be nice!

Special K

There was an ad in a women’s magazine that says if you eat Special K for breakfast every day for 2 weeks that you will lose weight. I’m not sure why that is the magic answer to losing weight but I am willing to give it a try. I like the Special K with strawberries and knowing what I’m going to eat for breakfast makes the morning easier to deal with. I’d like to drop 10 pounds – who wouldn’t?

Sick Day

When I don’t feel well I want ginger ale to drink and chicken soup to eat. I’m an easy patient to care for and feed. I just want to sleep and be left alone in my bed. I want lots of ginger ale in a glass with ice cubes. I want chicken soup with saltine crackers. That is all.

I don’t need the attitude

When the Internet first came into our house, I never thought for a moment that I’d be using it to find bits and pieces of tooling supplies, mechanical parts, and hardware. But after a few trips to the local hardware store lately, where I got a lot of bad attitude from a rude cashier, I decided to go online and see if I could find what I needed without being subjected to a lot of aggravation. I found several sites that really had just about everything I needed, and their online catalogs were organized in such a way that really helped out a lot when I was trying to find specific pieces.

People complain about business being bad in town, and complain about how they are losing business to the Internet, and big box stores. Well, I’d like to suggest that they took a good, long, look at their employees and have a reality check when it comes to customer service. That is going to make or break the businesses, that is for sure!

Happy New Year!

I am looking forward to a year of more healthy food choices and more outside activities. I promise to take my dogs outside for longer, faster walks and some romps across the field by the cabin as often as humanly possible.

Best wishes to you for a very Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas to all

Today we had a good, large, family Christmas dinner at a local Masonic Lodge dining hall. All of the extended family members that could attend brought food to share, and nobody went away hungry. Much to my surprise, there were no family fights that I was aware of, and everyone had a good time. We sang a few songs (Jingle Bells and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer) and played a few games. We exchanged a few gifts here and there. Everyone chipped in with setting up the tables and buffet, and everyone chipped in with the dish-washing and cleaning up.

My mother said she thought it was a lot more work than when the dinners were held at someone’s house, but I completely disagree, since the dinners have been held at my house every year for the past six years. This year I didn’t have to run around the house in a panic, cleaning, de-cluttering, and worrying about the pets being upset, or about my things being broken (or stolen) by someone.

I really hope that all future family dinners will be held there. I liked it a lot.

Sometimes I just want to scream

Don’t get me wrong, I love Alicia, I really do. But when we get together, all she can talk about is herself! She doesn’t even ASK me how I am, or how my family is! She talks about her work, her vacations, her new real estate checklist template app that she downloaded on her cell phone, and even how she is switching brands of pet food because her vet told her that the brand she was using wasn’t as good as the one he sells there at his office.

Sometimes I just want to scream “will you please be quiet for just one minute?” when I am around her, but I don’t want to hurt her feelings. Sometimes I wonder if she is simply afraid of silence. I enjoy companionship, but I also enjoy silence from time to time.

Christmas Blessings

This past week has been crazy busy. I had to finish up shopping, get my tree up and decorated, and bake 20 dozen Christmas cookies to give to my close friends. We have a small group of friends and family who like to exchange cookies each year, and everyone loves my little gingerbread men and women. So I have an entire afternoon dedicated to baking gingerbread men and women today.

I guess it’s too late to send out Christmas cards. I’m sorry I blew it, but I do hope that everyone has a wonderful Christmas.

Winter Break

School will be out soon for the Christmas holidays. The politically correct way of saying it does not include the word Christmas. But I think that is pretty hypocritical. If Christmas suddenly disappeared off the calendars, do you really think that everyone would be gathering at their families homes for a big dinner and taking 2 weeks off from school? No way. With the holidays falling on Wednesday this year, the kids make out like bandits – they get a full two weeks off from school. That’s a nice long break – especially if you want to go on vacation or travel to see relatives.

Snickers bars and Pop Tarts

When the weather starts getting bad and there’s a chance I’ll have trouble on the road, I like to pack a small emergency pack to keep in the car. I put a blanket, several bottles of water, and a few packs of crackers, trail mix, snickers bars, and pop tarts. Even my dog likes the pop tarts – they are frosted strawberry and make a great portable snack.
