Sprint Commericals – What If . . . ?

There is a new Sprint cell phone commercial that continues the series of “What if _______ ran the world?” I watched it this morning as I was getting ready for work and having my breakfast.

The new one is featuring film crews. The wedding of a bride and her groom with cold feet ends up with a groom double being dropped into place at the last minute. The film crew works all kinds of magic, from making the rain stop to producing cue cards that say “I Do.” It was hilarious!

Memorial Day Thanks

USA

This weekend means happy days at the beach or cabin with an extra day off. But to a lot of people this is a sad weekend, as they miss someone they loved who may have given their lives in service to our country. So I try to be sensitive to that fact and let people know that I appreciate what the men and women in our armed forces are doing and have done for us.

Mother’s Day Brunch

There is a little coffee shop in Franklin that I stop by at least once a week. I just love their caramel coffee and it is much less expensive than Starbucks. So when I stopped in last Thursday I noticed a little sign announcing a Mother’s Day brunch. Since this isn’t really a full service restaurant, I was surprised. But it turns out that one of the owners is a retired chef, and once a year, on Mother’s Day, he likes to cook up a huge special brunch menu for his wife and daughter, and they decided to offer the same delicious spread to their customers. I thought that was an awesome story.

Joyous Easter

Although I won’t be spending the day with family, I am determined to relax and enjoy my Easter. I considered going to a restaurant to eat a nice Easter brunch, but I realized that I enjoy cooking some things and would like to spend the time in the kitchen. I boiled a half dozen eggs and will color them bright blue and green and then paint them with markers just for fun. I guess I can eat a hard boiled egg each day this week and not crash my cholesterol numbers too badly. What is Easter without Easter eggs?

Another Friday the 13th

Today was a spooky coincidence in that it was Friday the 13th for the second time this year. Since we have only had 3 months in the year, that fact that two of the three had a Friday the 13th is a little spooky, don’t you think? And another one coming again – but not until November.

Happy Birthday, Little Brother!

My younger brother Bill is having a big 0 birthday today. I’m not sure if everyone considers 30 over the hill or not, but I can tell you that life in your 30’s is not the same as life in your 20’s. Things change. You change. The 30’s mean more responsibilities and less impulsiveness. Almost all your friends are married or have been married at least once. Most have kids. It’s definitely not the same as the college days and your first job.

But then we do have a lot to look forward to in our midlife. So, Bill, welcome to the 30’s and I hope you have a wonderful birthday today!

World AIDS Day Today

The morning news announcer said in a careless choice of words that we are celebrating World AIDs Day today. That was an unfortunate way to phrase that. Believe me, there is nothing to celebrate about AIDs. We are observing the day to raise awareness of the disease and to promote education and research to obliterate this awful disease.

Friday Night TV Stinks

Ever since I was a teen and accepted babysitting jobs on Friday nights, I have been bored out of my mind with Friday night TV. The shows are awful – it’s the worst night of the week. Plus, if you are stuck in someone else’s house watching kids, it is even worse to have nothing good to watch. So I usually have 4-5 VHS Tapes and DVDs in my bag to watch if I can’t find anything at all on cable.

Reading Oprah

I picked up a magazine at the grocery store check out line. It is called “O” for Oprah. She is one of those few famous people who can go by their first name and everyone knows immediately who you are talking about.

I think Oprah had a lot to do with Barrack Obama getting elected. But she is a good woman and her magazine seems to cover a lot of different topics of interest to the American woman. So I’ll give it a read and see if I like it.

Congrats to Barrack Obama

The voting results were final just about the time that I go to bed. I was relieved to see that Barrack Obama won by enough of a margin that there won’t be problems with protests and challenges and maybe even scandals like the infamous “hanging chads” in the last election.

I was surprised that some of the states that used to be red states turned out to be blue states this time. That says a lot for the political strategy that Obama used.

Also, I am glad that Biden has the chance to be Vice President and maybe eventually President. He is a good man, although he has a mean side, but then we need someone who won’t be bullied, and I think most people respect Biden for his leadership and no nonsense attitude.
