Would this be good for a teenager?

When Shawna told me that her teenage son Justin was interested in learning how to compose and mix his own music, using his computer, I was quite surprised! I had no idea that there would be any kind of software available for a regular computer that would allow a beginner to do things like that.

Shawna told me that Justin was telling her that he might like to learn more about the sony acid music studio software, and see if that would be a good idea to get. I was trying to help out by finding some reviews on the product, but so far I haven’t seen any. So, if any of my readers out there have tried this, I’d like to know what you think – would this be a good program to buy for a teenager that is just starting out?

Not just a website

Sometimes the Internet can be so seductive that we may forget that stores have a brick and mortar presences as well as a website. One great thing about having both is that people who may not know that a business like guitar center has a brick and mortar guitar center nj store can find out that they have one by visiting their website first.

All the little parts that you need

My sister recently got interested in going to a karaoke bar every week with some friends. Her husband decided to buy her a little karaoke machine to use at home. She was hoping to get a wireless microphone to use with the machine.

The microphone that came with the machine has a cord, and she likes to dance while she is singing. She finds herself almost tripping over the cord when she is dancing. The problem seems to be that she doesn’t know all of the different parts that she will need for the wireless microphone to work.

I am trying to help her find out, and have been trying to understand if the wireless microphones we have been finding have their own amplifier or not, and what she would be able to use for speakers. Can she use her current karaoke machine at all for any of that? Or her TV set? We are feeling pretty stupid right about now!

Halloween plans

As of right now, I’m not sure what I may be doing for Halloween. Usually by now, I’ve got my costume planned and candy has been bought, since the kids around my house usually don’t go out on actually Halloween night. Since it falls on a Monday this year and it’s a school night, they will be coming around on Saturday. I just hope it’s not cold and raining like it has been for the past few years. Sure spoils the kid’s fun.

Unique guitars

Have you ever seen a guitar without a big hole in the middle, behind the strings? I never had, until I saw a picture of an Ovation guitar! When I saw a picture of the guitars without a big hole in the body, I was fascinated! So I decided to learn a little about the guitar, and learned that it was designed by an aeronautical engineer who was fascinated with guitars and decided to redesign the guitar. I went onto YouTube to try to find a video that explained more about the details of the different designs, but after watching several videos about the company, I finally gave up.

Get Along Little Doggie

I love the gags that can be played around the little dachshund dog. Like the meme that goes around Facebook every now and then, of a dachshund puppy in a hot dog roll, like the photo below:

And the joke about why did the cowboy adopt a dachsund?

I like looking at pet halloween costumes online and in stores, and I’m always amused by how cute they are, and find myself wishing that my own pets would tolerate wearing something like that. My experience, however, has been that my pets do their best to remove whatever article of clothing I try to put on them! So I’m afraid that for me, it would be an exercise in frustration, and a waste of money to buy the costume for my pets.

You can find your health insurance online

For my dear friends in North Carolina, I wanted to let you know that if you are still desperately looking for health insurance coverage, my good friend Julie found insurance here that took care of her needs. You don’t have to spend much more time looking around and asking all of your friends and family what to do. Thank goodness for the Internet – it certainly is making a lot of things in life a lot easier to accomplish!

Sweet little amp is just perfect

I was just watching a YouTube demonstration of a sweet little fender passport mini is the perfect amp for the musician on the go. Right now it is on sale for under $200, which makes it a perfect Christmas gift! It runs on either AC or DC, and is great for students, street musicians, or anyone that needs a small amp for presentations.

How Much Turkey?

If you are cooking on Thursday, how do you know you will have enough turkey? I just always picked up a big turkey and figured that a big one would work out. They all seem to be about the same size in the grocery store anyway!

But if you really need to know how many pounds of turkey you need to buy, here’s what I found on the Internet this morning:

If you need only enough turkey to make it through Thanksgiving dinner: buy between ¾ pound to 1 pound per person.

If you want enough leftovers for the long weekend: buy 1 pound (or slightly more) per person.

Too Much for Chips

Just noticed the price of a bag of potato chips while I was shopping today. At the Kroger a bag of Lays chips is $4.99. Not even gourmet chips – just regular chips in the bag.

I’m astonished. This bag is nothing more than one potato that has been sliced very thin, tossed in hot oil for a couple of minutes, salted and then tossed into an oversized thin foil bag. When you think about it, the bag is 80% air. So what on earth can justify charging almost five bucks for one bag of chips that will last an average family just one day? This amount of money for this little bit of snack food is crazy!
