On the river

I wan to go out on the river this weekend so bad. I am waiting for my brother in law to finish fixing his boat, then we are all going camping and boating on the river. We have so much fun when we do this. We always set up on this island in the middle of the river and camp the whole weekend long. At the end of the island is a sand bar that everyone gathers at in their boats. There is a volley ball net set up that stays there always and we call the sand bar Party Cove. I love it here. I would not want to live anywhere else.

Baby Shower

I have a baby shower to go to later on this afternoon. I already bought a couple of small things, but still need to purchase a couple more. I have the stroller baby priced, but I am not sure if I should buy it as our friend Kim said she was going to. I did order the purple and brown baby bedding for the crib that she and her husband already bought. She was very specific about what she wanted and we all wanted to make sure that she got it. That isn’t too difficult.

I also bought as a surprise, some green and purple toddler bedding. That way when the child is ready for the crib to convert to a toddler bed, he/she will have a new set of bedding. They are all the same size anyway, so she can use them before hand as well as later. I know she will be happy with it as she was admiring it when we were out shopping.

Baking up a storm

Yesterday I had the day off, so I decided that this weekend I was going to start my holiday baking. I think I went a bit over board at the store buy ingredients, without checking my cupboards first for the various ingredients I thought I would need. So far 4 different kinds of cookies are finished. But since it’s the weekend, I’m going to call my sisters and ask to borrow their kids, to do the decorating of the sugar cookies, while I do the rest of the baking. It might be fun!

Internet shopping for Christmas gifts

This year, I’ve decided to do a lot of my shopping online. I found a really great shotgun break down case for my “little” brother. He is an avid hunter and fisherman and this will be totally perfect for him. Each year, I like to get him things that I know he will enjoy and actually use. He is the youngest in the family, and when my mom worked, basically since I’m quite a bit older than he is, I used to keep an eye on him while she was at work. He’s pretty much my favorite of my siblings, even though it’s said one shouldn’t have favorites. It’s hard not to, since he is indeed the youngest.

My niece’s ten speed bike got stolen over Thanksgiving holidays, which to me is a darn shame, since she really is into biking and being a collage student rode her bike everywhere, to save on gas. Also she is into going on long bike rides for the fitness and also just for the pleasure of it, so now she is riding my old one. I hinted to her not to get another bicycle because, “Santa was coming soon”. I said it with a wink, so I’m sure she knows I’ll be buying her one.

One of my older nephews is seriously into collecting rocks, and hinted to me that he really needed a new rock collection display case. This will be a pleasure for me to get one for him, since I am into collecting rocks also, and always have been. So, three items are going to be crossed off my list soon!

Already December

Where did the month of November go? It seems like it was here and gone in no time at all. Now it’s already December. Time to start thinking about shopping and getting ready for Christmas, something that to be honest, I’m not really into. It’s become so commercial. But then, it has been like that for years. Kind of takes the thrill out of the season, in my opinion.

Happy Halloween

Actually it’s miserable outside. Poor kids. I did however get plenty of candy and am hoping for the best. I’m not in the spirit this year. Usually I dress up…of course as a not scary witch, and love handing out candy. Guess with the blahs.. I just don’t feel like it.

Happy Halloween weekend

I’m not nearly ready for Halloween this year. I’m just not into the spirit of it all. I’m going to get goodies for the kids that come around, but that is all I actually feel like doing. I think I’m getting old, or just in a funk of some kind.

What a blast

Seems I didn’t have to take off work for the apple festival at all. I got off work a bit early,  picked up the kids from their schools and we came to my house, I had them do the weekend homework they had no argument at all, which was a plus. After that, since I knew there would be plenty of food at the festival, we took off. It was great since it was warm enough out that I just had the boys bring hoodies, in case it did get cooler out. We had a blast. There was a pumpkin carving contest, saw how cider was made, drank cider, there was a hay ride and all kinds of other great things to do. I have to admit that this year was the best apple festival I’ve ever been to here. Of course the kids got a bellyache from drinking so much cider and eating the caramel apples and other food, but they didn’t complain. I’m sure I’ll hear it from my sisters…LOL! Oh well, that is what Aunties do, right? Spoil the kids! 😉

An idea for Christmas

I’ve been doing some research into something a friend told me about, which is self catering holidays for Christmas. All of my friends and family know I’ve always wanted to go to Scotland. So of course when I heard about this idea, my ears perked up and that is when the research started. It would be great to have a holiday there. It seems to me that even though our family is large and used to spend Christmas together, over the years now we go to my Mom’s house on different days during the holidays.

I’ve looked at some travel guides and even though I haven’t asked my Mom what she thinks of the idea, I’d like to take  her with me. Even if it is just for a few days. I think it would be a nice gift to her, and she would be pleased to come with me. Besides, I’m afraid to fly alone. She might not want to go exactly on Christmas day or during Christmas week even, but still Christmas can be celebrated until New Years, since I don’t take my tree down until then. I think sometimes I’m still a kid at heart and don’t want it to end.

Sometimes it’s nice to get away on holiday breaks and this is something that I’d really consider doing.

Dislike of shopping

I used to enjoy to go shopping. I never really liked clothes shopping because of having to of course, try everything on, but it was never bad if I had someone with me, since they could go out and get clothes they knew I liked, and bring them in for me to try on. Now, trying to shop for something to wear for the up coming wedding, and also shoes, then trying to figure out what to get the couple for a gift, is sort of loosing it’s allure. Not to mention going to store after store to find what I’m looking for…that is getting old fast. Kicker is, I have another wedding and a baby shower to go to in the next two months also. The thought of shopping online is more appealing to me now that it ever was. And just giving money to the couple makes a whole lot of sense to me!
