Wow! I woke up early this morning and since it’s now staying darker longer it was semi dark still outside. When I opened the door to let my dog outside, the fog was so thick that I couldn’t see the house across the street from me. To top it off, even though it wasn’t the slightest bit windy out there, the fog was actually rolling around and swirling. It looked like something out of a scary movie. I ran to get my camera to video it it, only to discover that the darn batteries were dead. It’s light out now, but still really foggy. I saw on the news that most the schools are delayed around here…as well they should be. I’m not even going to drive in this.
Patio furniture
I keep looking at my patio and I’ve decided that I want a whole new ambiance for it and it’s use. That means new patio furniture. My sister suggested looking at Adirondac chairs as a beginning and then go on from there. I’ve seen a few of my friends chairs of that brand, including a pair of really nice looking and comfortable rocking chairs and fell in love with them. I’ve always had a great infinity for rocking chairs and comfortable chairs to relax in. I think rocking makes for peace once in awhile when things seem too stressful.
While I was looking for chairs, I was totally amazed at the other items from this company. For instance the picnic tables. I found one that I would love to have. The smaller size of it, would be totally perfect for my patio. Plus it doesn’t really look like the usual picnic table one normally sees. It’s actually quite classy and also very durable. Perfect for a small party of guests. So far the wheels in my mind are remodeling my patio so that I’ll be totally ready to do it by the time Spring is here.
I figured while I’m “mentally” getting myself a new patio, I’d also look at park benches to see if there was one that also would round out the look I want for my patio. Sure enough…there was a patio bench with cushions and even a pillow that looked great! So, with my little nest egg I save for just this kind of project, I might just take my sister’s recommendation into mind.
A visitor
Sad to say, this summer there weren’t too many butterflies. This one landed on the flowers, then onto my hand and it seemed not afraid at all. If one looks closely there is a bumble bee on the other flower and he was very friendly also! Maybe because I’m not afraid of them and also have been known to hold them at times.
Enjoying the weather
Well the weather we’ve had for the last two days sure has been different than what it was. It’s beautiful out, and with a day off today, I’ve been enjoying the last days of summer before it turns cold. This morning I sat out on the patio and had my tea while reading the book I started and just enjoying the sounds of the morning. With the weather so nice, I’ve worked a bit in my gardens since soon I’m going to have to “put them to bed” for the winter. So far, it’s been a great day!
Burrr
The weather got actually cold the last couple days. The temperature got down in the 40’s last night and I even had to turn the furnace on in order to get the chill out of the air, since it was also really windy and raining. I’m sure not looking forward to winter. I have a feeling it’s going to be a bad one. Or at least, worse than usual.
Water chores
This weekend I’m going up to the lake place and take out the dock. It’s kind of a bittersweet type of thing for me to do, since it feels like it marks the end of the summer. There is still the beach access to the water on the warm last days, and even sometimes into the beginning of October, but I love to run the length of the dock and dive right in. I’ll recruit a few of my guy friends and girlfriends to help out and well all grill and we always have a good time doing this, but I hate summer to end.
Surprise Visit
Just got a call from my friend, Connie, and it was good news! She and the kids are coming through on their way to St. Joseph’s and want to spend a day hanging out. That will be awesome! I haven’t seen Connie is ages.
Maybe we can go to the community pool for the day and just cool off in the water instead of being cooped up in the house for the sake of air conditioning. My only concern is whether her daughter will enjoy that, as she recently broker her arm and its in a cast. Of course we want to include her and make she she has a good time, too.
Whatever we do will have to be planned around some way to beat this awful summer heat. Can you believe it hit 100 degrees again today?
Storms brewing
We here, like most people are enduring or trying to endure sweltering hot weather the best we can. I must say though that people’s tempers are short and there are so many warnings about staying inside. I had to go to the store and noticed that the frozen food section was even unusually crowded, which lead me to believe that folks were hanging out just to keep cool, not to shop. Pretty sad. The weather report however is calling for some severe storms to start moving in. Hopefully it will cool things off. The only thing I’m a concerned about, as unpredictable as the weather has been, the storms will bring with it, tornadoes.
Vacation is over
It’s time to leave the place up at the lake and to be honest, I really don’t want to leave. It’s a whole lot better being near the water in this heat and just being able to jump in and cooling off. I do however have a lot to do when I get back and one is work! This place is an easy hour away and I’ve vowed not to stay away long. There are plenty of more days left of summer to enjoy the peace and quiet here.
Camping fun!
As I’m am still up at the lake cabin, I have been thinking a great deal of having my nephews come stay with me here for a few days or even a week. “My boys” are ages 8, 10 and 11. I know they share my love of fishing, hiking and nature. They, unlike me also love to rough it outside. Of course, when ever we have “camped” they have done the camping and I have provided the “must haves” (that they no doubt could do without, but groove with since they are goodies and really cool items that I know they love). This place has two bedrooms, kitchenette and living room with a large fireplace, and yes of course indoor plumbing, but boys are boys and I know they would want to stay in a tent in the yard.
I called my sisters to find out what the boys may like or need for this adventure, and the hands down, the answer was Sleeping Bags!! Apparently young boys go through sleeping bags quickly. At least my rough tough ones do, so their moms say. I personally love buying the boys things that they want and need, and also spending the money on items that are well worth the price when it comes to durability.
I’m really looking forward to having the boys with me up here at the lake. It will be a riot and I’ll even have some fishing companions! I’m starting a list tonight on the “goodies” I’m going to shop for and have to go through the shed to see what kind of shape the life jackets and such are in. It’s been a while since the kids have been up here, and I know I’m going to have some restocking to do.
