Bell ringers already

This is getting a bit far fetched. I went shopping today and at every store entrance and exit there were the bell ringers for Good Will or Salvation Army dressed up like flipping Santa, or standing outside the store freezing their butts off. I hate not giving, but this is too much. I give some at CHRISTMAS. Yet it isn’t even Thanksgiving yet. I can’t afford to shell out money like that. And also I’ve noticed that these people get really pissed off if they don’t get a donation.

Leaves are nearly all gone

Lately the leaves have been falling off my maple tree at an incredible rate of speed. I had them raked, but to  do something one wants done, I have discovered not to hire some one to do it for me. What a total mess. Now I’m going to have to rake all over again and then burn the leaves in my drive way. Never again will I hire someone who can’t follow simple instructions.

Moving into a new place

Guest post of the week by Deangelo Spencer

When I moved into my new place I was really excited to get it all fixed up. I wanted to get totally new curtains and floors for the main rooms and I knew I had to have all the bathrooms retiled. I just wasn’t sure what to do about the Satellite Star Internet and the security system…did I need them both? Well, I sprang for them and now I’m really glad – turns out it’s all the extra technology here that really makes me love this house. I had no idea how much I would use the surround sound or the intercom system but they’re things I deal with every day and I love it! I wouldn’t have it any other way and I can thank my brother Ted for encouraging me to go totally high-tech with this place. Being a homeowner is tough, that’s for sure, but there’s something about knowing it’s my house and I can do whatever I want with it that really gets me excited. It feels so adult!

An alternative ride

I thought this was a pretty cool idea for the witches out there…lol! Considering I ride a Harley, this just might be kind of fun if something could be rigged up for next Halloween!

Waiting for the weekend

With the weekend nearly here, I’m looking forward to putting my flower beds to “sleep” for the winter and raking all the leaves that have fallen in the yard. The weather is supposed to be warmer and sunny. I hope it is, since I really would like to get this done and enjoy doing these kind of things. It’s sort of bittersweet though, since it seems we hardly had a summer and now winter is nearly upon us.

It’s confirmed

I have one heck of a case of strep throat. Wonderful. Perhaps from standing out in the cold handing out candy to exactly 12 kids that came to the house for trick or treating? It was such a sad turn out. I ended up giving the kids hand fulls of candy and telling them to come back around if they wanted. They were happy, though.

Happy Halloween

Actually it’s miserable outside. Poor kids. I did however get plenty of candy and am hoping for the best. I’m not in the spirit this year. Usually I dress up…of course as a not scary witch, and love handing out candy. Guess with the blahs.. I just don’t feel like it.

Cleaning greasy messes

It is time to clean out the grill and put it up for the winter and I found that I had to go on a hunt for perfect degreasers. I also realized that I am a really sloppy grill cooker, even though I don’t mean to be. I use tin foil most of the time for my vegetables and some other things, like stuffed tomatoes with tuna, which is easy to just to wrap in tinfoil and slap on the grill.

Actually in the summer, I grill more that I cook in my kitchen. I like being outside. I also love my patio and the fact that in the summer, I don’t have to stand in a hot kitchen. But like I said, I am a messy grill cook. I noticed that grease had splattered from off the grill or my grilling utensils, onto my patio stone and that regular degreasers were not got to get it all off.

A friend of mine suggested that I use industrial strength degreasers on the stone patio “floor” as I call it. I was kind of leery at first, but when I did indeed use it, and was careful following the instructions, it worked like a charm. I’m even thinking about keeping my grill covered but also available on the patio if I want to grill in the winter!

Happy Halloween weekend

I’m not nearly ready for Halloween this year. I’m just not into the spirit of it all. I’m going to get goodies for the kids that come around, but that is all I actually feel like doing. I think I’m getting old, or just in a funk of some kind.

Hump Day

I have always thought that the term hump day was silly. Today, with the way I’m feeling, I can understand why Wednesdays are called that. I just want to get over this day and week.
