Music and Videos

I’m a great fan of You Tube. I love to find the music I haven’t heard in a long time and watch the videos that remind me of the concerts I used to go to. Lately my geeky little brother has been telling me about video converter software. Now, I have no clue what he is talking about, but he indeed does and if he says I would love this, I no doubt would.

I’m told by my little Geek that he could do You Tube to video converter and I can watch and listen to what I want to all the time, instead of having to keep going back and typing in what I want and then finding it and clicking. I guess from what he says, it saves lots of time and is a pretty cool thing. Me of course, as stated in previous posts and totally ignorant about all this tech stuff.

The great thing, is he can download free You Tube downloader and wella…it would be done and he said it was really easy. When I hear the word, “free” that is always a good thing too! So I’m going to trust my little brother and see what he’s going to do to my faithful computer so I have my videos and music. This should be rather interesting. I might even learn a thing or two about being a geek myself. Okay…that is pushing it, but one never knows!

The excitement of Award Shows!

Thanks for the article from Robin Woodard

Every year hundreds of award shows are shown on networks across the world. Many of them have derivatives of the same shows and have special events that tailor to the fan experience. If you have satellite TV from www.directstartv.com, you can sometimes access special interactive content for a specific shows, like The Tony Awards and the Video Music Awards, along with countless others, depending on if the provider has interactive content available. This feature is normally found on Dish Network channels.

One of my favorite award shows is the Grammy awards because of the prestigious awards that are given and the wild performances that happen every year. At the 2011 Grammy awards when Lady Gaga performed her new single “Born This Way,” I was quite amazed at her performance because she seemed to have energy and eccentric taste when it lead up to her performance. She was the most talked about celebrity of the night because of her creative stunt to arrive in an egg like shell to help promote her performance and her new single. I found this stunt very inspiring but some others found it weird however,  because it was something people didn’t understand.

Fashion at the Grammy awards is usually very elegant attire; though sometimes it can be a bit over-the-top. This years Grammy awards (2011) had beautiful attire worn by Miley Cyrus,  the girls from Glee,  Jennifer Hudson,  and even Ryan Seacrest was looking rather nice.

Ryan Seacrest is usually a good host and this year, he did well, like he usually does. In my view,  I would recommend watching award shows because they are entertaining, but also very inspiring. For those out there like myself who love music and are trying to get into the music industry, these award shows provide a sense of hope that one day,  we can achieve awards and the gift of walking on a stage with other stars for the work we have done.  So next time an award show comes on,  watch it. You’ll be glad you did.

Needing printers ink badly

Okay, so I said I don’t do much on Mondays, but I was sitting here blogging and wanted to check some things out on line about herbs for my garden. Even though it’s raining, I figure it has to stop sometime so  think on the bright side. It’s either make some plans for the garden, or perhaps look up how to build an Ark. Not that I want to take care of all the animals of the world, but hey…I really don’t want to row around, since I don’t know how to row, and just end up going in circles. I found some really great info I wanted to print out, got read to print and found I was out of ink jet cartridges. I hate it with that happens.

I’m tired of paying the costly price of ink at the office supply I go to. It’s unreal. I wanted to see if I could find some cheap ink. Which at the stores around here, is darn near impossible. So, I used my fingers instead of gas and leg work. Online I went once again…surfing instead of rowing at the moment.

I compared lots of online stores that had sold printers ink, but most of them didn’t have the ink I needed for my model of printer, as it is, I must admit a rather old one. Okay, it is really almost obsolete and there for awhile I though I really would have to get a brand new one. I was so happy when I came across a great site, with my brand that I need, at excellent prices…both black and color. I ordered a truck load. LOL! I couldn’t help myself. I love my old printer. I know my dear friend, who has been so faithful to me and helpful over the years. I know, I know…I’m a bit sentimental and also didn’t want to shell out the bucks for a new one right now. 😉

Little brothers are great!

Of course who I call my “little brother” isn’t little anymore. He’s 8 years younger than me, and a grown man. I still will always call him my “little brother” though. I love him dearly, and am amazed at his accomplishment. He’s a butt kicking diesel mechanic, and works on these HUGH motors. He is an avid outdoors man…hunting, fishing, tanning the hides of deer, and what ever else that pertains to this. A real rugged looking, handsome guy. But he is also a computer geek. I have to laugh sometimes. To look at him one would never think he would get into such things, but indeed he does and he’s now trying to teach me about web hosting.

Now I have to be really honest. I am sort of computer illiterate, to say the least. When I broke down and bought a computer, a lot of people were totally shocked. But I needed one to keep in contact with some people who I needed to, and to use for files and photos I needed to keep and protect. When I started a small business I needed more advertisement and my brother decided to show me some ways to get my business “out there” so to speak. I myself personally don’t have a whole lot of time on my hands so he told me that managed hosting, would be an excellent way for me to go. They take care of everything for you, basically. Lots of help right there at your fingertips and it’s awesome, because these are professionals that really know what they are doing and care about you and the success of your business.

I was really worried about having something happen to my “baby” meaning my business and the info stored that I need, so I learned about colocation. I think of it as sending the techs my servers and they keep them safe in a awesome place where everything is “babysat” and nothing will happen to them. 🙂 No worries if your own computer crashes, or something someone stealing your kid, so to speak. It’s indeed the way to go if you want your business out there, yet protected.

Movies, Movies, Movies!

Dig this.. I got this trial paper and stuff in the mail to try Netflix for a month and if I like it, then it’s 7.99 a month. I’ve of course heard of it, but never tried it because I am a bit dubious about these things. But being the movie lover I want to watch movies when I want to watch them. Okay, so I’m sort of out of the scope of this kind of stuff…it really trips me out sometimes. But still, I’ve decided to try it out myself. 🙂

Cell Phone Bath

Yes, I did it. I dropped my Blackberry in the water. I don’ know what I was thinking. I was talking to my sister and trying to wash up the pots and pans from dinner, and the phone slipped off my shoulder. It dropped straight down into the soapy sudsy water with a horrible plunk.

Of course I grabbed it right out of there, but I don’t kno if it can be saved. I heard from friends that if you take a wet phone apart and put it in a Ziploc bag filled with raw white rice that it will dry out and work the next day.

I sure hope that is right and we’ll find out in a few hours. I’ve gone all day with my phone and I’m miserable. But then, I can’t blame anyone but myself.

Music on the Internet

As much as I am on the internet and as much as I love to listen to music, I am so excited to have found a web site called Pandora.com This is a web site that lets you pick the type of music that you like by choosing 2 or 3 or 4 of your favorite artists or groups. Then they create a personal station for you that plays music by those artists plus they add in a handful of similar artists. I love that idea!

Damn My Phone

Like I advised everyone yesterday, I set all my clocks ahead an hour for Daylight Savings Time. But today I see that my cell phone has not changed. Why doesn’t AT&T handle this change in a timely manner – no pun intended!?!? I know that when I travel back to DC the cell phone changes to Eastern Time automatically as soon as I get near Knoxville. So why can’t AT&T set my phone one hour ahead?

Another Update

Wow – I have to upgrade my WordPress again. This is awful. I can’t do it myself, I have to pay my system administrator to take the time to back up my blog and then install the update. I didn’t realize that there would be so many updates in a year. I thought it would be a once a year type of thing. But this is the fifth one this year. That’s putting me out of pocket over $100 for a supposedly free program.

Longevity at Duke University

I was reading the Duke University publication today. They have an article about the longevity of some of their professors.

Professor Strandberg is one of their faculty members who have taught at Duke  University for over 40 years.

Their Professor of Economics, Craufurd Goodwin, and their Professor of Chemistry, James Bonk, have both been there longer than Prof. Strandberg.

Prof. Goodwin has been the University for 54 years.
