Christmas Blessings

This past week has been crazy busy. I had to finish up shopping, get my tree up and decorated, and bake 20 dozen Christmas cookies to give to my close friends. We have a small group of friends and family who like to exchange cookies each year, and everyone loves my little gingerbread men and women. So I have an entire afternoon dedicated to baking gingerbread men and women today.

I guess it’s too late to send out Christmas cards. I’m sorry I blew it, but I do hope that everyone has a wonderful Christmas.

Snickers bars and Pop Tarts

When the weather starts getting bad and there’s a chance I’ll have trouble on the road, I like to pack a small emergency pack to keep in the car. I put a blanket, several bottles of water, and a few packs of crackers, trail mix, snickers bars, and pop tarts. Even my dog likes the pop tarts – they are frosted strawberry and make a great portable snack.

A Turkey in Every Pot

The latest craze for Holiday meals is deep fried turkeys. This HAD to have been invented in the South. They fry any and every thing in the South – and it usually tastes damn good, too.

The problem with deep frying turkeys is that you have to use a lot of very hot oil in a big pot that can tip over or spill over very easily. This usually causes someone’s house to burn down because these dumb rednecks don’t understand that hot oil spilled on a wood deck equals big fire. So if you are cooking a turkey in a big tub of hot oil, please use your brain and put it on a surface that cannot catch fire. And cook it outside, far away from your house!

Peeling Bananas

This funny video was on the front page of Yahoo today. It’s timing is really good – I just brought home 30 bananas. A friend had a huge box of fresh bananas that he was giving away for free and I took them. I have no idea what I’m going to DO with 30 bananas, but he was going to throw them away. So . . . at least I know how to peel them now. LOL

Good Ice Cream

A few years ago we had a new ice cream plant open up in Nolensville to service the grocery stores in this area. The ice cream was originally made in Texas, but they decided to start expanding a few years ago. I’m really glad that Blue Bell ice cream came here. This is the best ice cream you can buy.

I know a lot of people really like Ben & Jerry’s, but to be honest, those are more about the extra junk they put in the ice cream, like nuts and chocolate and cherries. The Blue Bell ice cream is more about really creamy, homemade taste in the ice cream itself. The flavors don’t overwhelm you, and I’ve tried them all and like them all. My favorite is strawberries in homemade vanilla.

Dinner and a movie

So happy. Last night we went out for dinner and a movie. We ate at one of my favorite places called Joes Crab Shack. I love seafood and this place has the absolute best there is in town. I had the Samuel Adams Steampot and boy was it delicious ! We hadn’t been there in so long, I was overjoyed when we pulled in. I didn’t know where we were going until we got there. My honey is so sweet. He knew exactly what I was going to love and made sure we go it. Our movie was really good as well, and we came home to curl up on the couch for a little while before bed. Probably shouldn’t have watched the news though.

Love these hash browns

I decided to try these hash browns one day just on a fluke. I figured it would be enough for maybe one or two people. Wrong. It is enough for all of us to have with breakfast. That is if some of the people you are feeding are kids and don’t eat a whole lot. In any case, we all loved them and they just go into the cupboard and don’t have to be refrigerated. I really love that!

Summer fun

This weekend is going to be a blast. There is the county fair as well as the CMA Fest in Nashville. We are going to try to go to both. Friday night we will go to the fair as it closes at around ten o’clock. We can get there around six and spend plenty of time riding the rides and such. We may go back on Sunday to see the animal shows, but I doubt it.

Saturday one of our favorite singers is playing on the Riverfront stage. The concert is free and won’t cost us really anything. We can take sandwiches and drinks, so long as the bag is small. So we will take several small bags, one per person. Each will have what we need for ourselves, instead of one big one like we normally do. The prices for the vendors are way to expensive for us to eat and drink there. This way we can buy a few souvenirs to bring home. I know that the kids will want something, so I am planning accordingly.

By the time we are done with all of that, I am going to assume we will be sunburned and ready to rest on Sunday. I know that I will be. It is going to be so much fun. Hope to see you there !

A wonderful day

We had a wonderful day yesterday after school. I took the kids and the dog to the park and we romped and played for two hours. Afterwards, I bought a couple of pizzas to take home and we pigged out on the back porch. The kids were worn out and fell into bed with absolutely no complaints. I am so happy that we did this. WINTER IS OVER Yaaaay !

The most awesome website ever

I love this site. This woman is amazing in the house and home genre of blogging. She has built an entire business around it, complete with a show on the Food Network now. She is the Pioneer Woman. Her name is Ree and I just love going to her page for new recipes and ideas. I have thought from time to time about home schooling when I have kids one day, but I am not sure that I have the temperament for that. I keep up with her blog on homeschooling though because I have learned from my sister about how horrible the schools have gotten around here. It is a thought I will not throw out for the moment though. Anyway, I thought I would share with you all and I hope you like this page as much as I do.
