Coin collection

I have told you about my son’s coin collection before I am sure. If I haven’t well, here it is. We have found a coin silver in make, that he really wants to add to his collection. Over the years, my father has helped him with his coin collection. He has many rare and old coins in it, but he likes to get some of the newly minted stuff as well. We indulge him whenever we can, and this one isn’t really that expensive and will look great in his collection.

Summer fun

This weekend is going to be a blast. There is the county fair as well as the CMA Fest in Nashville. We are going to try to go to both. Friday night we will go to the fair as it closes at around ten o’clock. We can get there around six and spend plenty of time riding the rides and such. We may go back on Sunday to see the animal shows, but I doubt it.

Saturday one of our favorite singers is playing on the Riverfront stage. The concert is free and won’t cost us really anything. We can take sandwiches and drinks, so long as the bag is small. So we will take several small bags, one per person. Each will have what we need for ourselves, instead of one big one like we normally do. The prices for the vendors are way to expensive for us to eat and drink there. This way we can buy a few souvenirs to bring home. I know that the kids will want something, so I am planning accordingly.

By the time we are done with all of that, I am going to assume we will be sunburned and ready to rest on Sunday. I know that I will be. It is going to be so much fun. Hope to see you there !

Low income bankruptcy

Filing bankruptcy is hard enough as it is, but if you are filing low income bankruptcy, it can be devastating. Low income families have a much more difficult time then do the middle class. While the middle class has much more to lose, they usually end up better off. Low income families lose everything. My heart goes out to those who have to go through this process, because it literally picks apart your life with no discrimination at all.

I’m a little late

I forgot to tell everyone Happy Memorial Day. I was so busy this past weekend, that I was barely even home. We were on the go from morning to night all three days. By the time we were done, we were all exhausted and it took this long to recuperate. I hope everyone had as great a weekend as we did.

Better late then never

I just wanted to say a late Happy Mothers Day to all of the mom’s out there. I had a wonderful day with my kids and was very busy. They made me breakfast in bed and then we left the house to spend time at the park having fun. It was a beautiful day, with a lovely breeze and we had a great time.

Drug abuse

I recently read about a child roughly the age of my son who died of a drug overdose. I was appalled by this as the child lived in the next town over from us. We didn’t know him, but it brought home the necessity of talking to my children about saying NO to drugs again. I know that the D.A.R.E program in school helps some, but parents need to be proactive in defending their children from the drug pushers.

In addition to the child I mentioned, there is one distant family member of ours that has had an addiction for a long time. We don’t see her very often and that is probably a good thing. I don’t want my children to think that drugs are harmless, because someone they know does them. They need to know that not only can drugs kill you, but they can ruin and chance you have at a decent life. I think I will have them write down questions they have about drugs and then answer them as we go. That might be a good way to help keep them safe. An honest question, deserves an honest answer and they know it.

Car Insurance

I decided to change my car insurance company to a new one. The old one kept adding new fees for this and that, and it really started to make me angry. I found cheap liability insurance and they promised no additional or hidden fees. That made me really happy. I had previously kept the same company for a really long time, but lately every I turned around, I was getting a bill for additional fees etc. That is something you shouldn’t have to deal with when you buy car insurance. I haven’t had any accidents or anything like that to make my payments go up, so it was just infuriating to have them do that.

Now that I found a better company that has better prices as well, I will not have to deal with anything like that again. My car is my baby and I want her insured, but I don’t want it to put me in the poor house doing it either. I needed to do this before I take my annual road trip when we go on vacation. I plan on driving to Florida and going to Disney with the kids, so it was a definite necessity. Add to that the money I will save on it can go towards our vacation.

We are so very excited to be able to go to Disney this year. Usually we go down to the beach, but now that the kids are all old enough to really enjoy Disney, we just have to go. I cannot wait until we get there. I haven’t told the kids where we are going. They think we are going to the beach and we are going to make sure we arrive in the middle of the night, so that the next morning when we get up we can really surprise them. It is going to be so much fun.

Road trip

I am going on a road trip to Memphis with my mom to see Graceland. I have always loved Elvis since I was a little kid growing up. I listened to his music, (mostly Christmas Carols) with my mom because he was her favorite when she was growing up. She told me all the stories about him and we watched all of his movies. It is something that we could enjoy together as mother/daughters should.

I have my own rituals with my daughter that we do. We watch the Grease, Dirty Dancing and other movies of the like, that I grew up with. One day we will have a road trip to see something neat like this. My daughter is going with us on this trip as well, but the boys will stay with dad for the weekend. They get to have some grandpa time and go fishing. All in all, it should be great for the whole family.

So much to do

There is always so much to do as the holidays begin to arrive. Starting with Halloween, there is decorations to go up and then back down. Toss some stuff out for Thanksgiving and bring it down as well. Then of course the major decorating for Christmas immediately following Thanksgiving. Lights to put up, picking the perfect tree and decorating it. This is a lot of work. In between each one, as you remove decoration, there is the cleaning process as well. By the time New Years gets here, I am usually exhausted. Then again, so is everyone else I know.

Housing

There are so many people having a hard time right now. The economy has made it difficult for many people to even afford to have a home. Low income housing can help families maintain their independence. I have a few family members who have recently needed to apply for this service. Losing your home can be devastating to everyone involved, especially for children. With low income housing, a family can feel safe and secure again.

No matter where you live, there is a program to help with housing. The minimum amount of income is generally around forty thousand a year, but can fluctuate depending on region. Low income housing can be found in every county, in every state.  Finding the information for it is not difficult at all. The Housing Authority is where you go to apply and they will give you all of the information that you can possibly need. The application process is relatively simple as well. I urge anyone who is in need of housing, to go see them for the assistance they need.
