Remember Pearl Harbor

I blame the Second World War for the death of my father, so Pearl Harbor Day is a day that I do not relish – it reminds me of all of the people that died over the stupid greed of evil rulers of foreign countries that attacked our shores. Evil people suck.

Always get complete coverage

I was really pleased when my sister told me that she had found the perfect insurance policy for her son’s after she visited the allredinsurance.com website that I had suggested to her a few weeks ago. I had encouraged her to get complete coverage – especially since her son is a teenager who only had his license for a few months. But she did not listen to me, and only got liability. Yesterday he totaled his car in a single vehicle accident! Now they are in the very difficult position of needing to buy a replacement vehicle, and having no money to do so! I sure wish that hadn’t happened!

Fool me once shame on you

My sister asked me if I would help her to buy a beginner guitar for her son so she could give it to him for Christmas. She doesn’t have any credit or debit cards, or a paypal account to use to be able to order one online for herself. She has found the one that she wants, and she told me that she will get paid this Friday and give me the money to pay for it. I told her that when she gives me the money I’ll go ahead and order it and use my paypal account to pay for it. But I’m not going to order it before she pays me! I’ve been burnt before! Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me!

Bite My Tongue

Why am I so hostile lately? It seems like I can’t find anything nice to say to anyone. I make comments on Facebook and get people all riled up. I send IMs and people just want to argue. I’m scared to send an email to anyone – I’ll probably just get my head bitten off for offending someone.

I’m going to just bite my tongue for a few days until my mood improves. After all, if you can’t say anything nice, you should not say anything at all.

Touch of Homesick

My niece is a bit of a drama queen and frequently complains about feeling homesick when the family goes out of town to visit relatives or friends.

I have been away from the DC area (where I grew up) for several years now, and I have to admit that every once in a great while I feel a touch of homesickness. But I know in my heart that I do not live there anymore and there’s no “going home.” In fact, the house where I grew up was sold to another family within months of my high school graduation and the new people remodeled it. So that’s a closed chapter of my life.

Now it’s on to greater adventures, here in Nashville and beyond!

Cute hand painted box

I was so excited to find this beautiful hand painted box for sale online when I was asked by my sister to help her find discount furniture at goods to furnish her new apartment. I don’t know how much the box costs, which is a little bit frustrating. The website doesn’t have a price listed, and has the notice to call them for a price. This puts me in mind of going to a restaurant and being given a menu without any prices listed.

My father loved the band Kiss

I was looking at some old family photos, and saw one photo where my father and his band had dressed up like the Kiss musicians. Kiss has been really popular for a very long time now, and I thought it would be fun to see what kind of YouTube videos I could find about the band. I was surprised to see one of the YouTube videos about the band was an interview done for http://www.musiciansfriend.com/. The video I found was done by the drummer, and I decided to watch it for a little while. I found it interesting that he talked about how he started out as a little kid banging pots and pans in the kitchen, just like my kids used to do. Then he went on to talk about how he used to play the drums for his father’s band, and it really helped to make me feel as if this guy was a “real” person.

I was reading some of the comments below the video, and I was saddened to read that a lot of people were expressing low opinions of him as a person. I don’t know if he is a nice person or not, but I always feel bad when I read negative comments like that.

Sweet little machine that makes music

I can remember years ago when my mother brought home a large, electric organ. It was amazing how there were some buttons and pedals that she could push to make the instrument sound like a snare drum, or a trumpet, or a variety of instruments that I never would have thought would come out of something that looked so much like a piano! When I was looking at the zoom drums & percussion machine online today, and was reading about all of the things it can do, it brought back memories of my mother playing and demonstrating that electric organ the first day that she brought it home. Music has evolved so much since then – it really is amazing!

I hate when that happens!

Jerry asked me to help him pay for the purchase of a new e-mu keyboard for him to give Joshua for his birthday. I asked him how much did he need, and he asked me to chip in half. I decided to go online to find out more information about the keyboard, and typed in the link that Jerry gave me. The link, however, led to a page that said “no results.” I hate when that happens, and now I have to let Jerry know that I’m not going to chip in for anything until I see the details. I want to make sure that I’m not being taken advantage of. I hate when that happens!

Going to the Lake!

This looks like it is going to be the first really nice weather weekend we’ve had all spring. In fact, it is like summer now!It was in the 80’s yesterday and it is supposed to be the same again today.

So my sister and I are going to take her son to the Lake and put a blanket out on the sand to watch him play. There is a really nice public beach just 5 minutes from my house, with a huge sand beach, a nice playground with slides and swings, and a bath house with indoor toilets and sinks and private changing rooms. It is all free except for the parking fee.

The State charges $5 per car for daily parking, but I found out that if you buy a season pass, you only pay $35 dollars for unlimited parking all year. The parking fees go directly to the State fund for taking care of the parks, so I don’t mind contributing to that, since I use it a lot.
